Yes, you read correctly! That's an override! Your dreams are about to come true. They said it was impossible to have Baldur's Gate music in Neverwinter Nights, but I proved them wrong (for the record, no one actually said this)! Your eyes don't deceive you; soon you will be able to enjoy those nostalgic tunes of the Bioware classic!

Anyway, I've replaced a good deal of the NWN sounds with the music from Baldur's Gate I, II, and expansions (with just one or two IWD songs thrown into the mix). I tried to avoid any repeats, but I had to reuse two battle songs. There are only a few NWN songs unaffected (Pirates Theme, all 1.69 music). Otherwise, the vast majority will be appropriately themed BG songs. I tried to match the general tones of the songs as best I could, so I hope you all enjoy!

Well, there goes the wizard with a body in tow. Not the sort of thing you see every day unless you happen to be living with a necromancer. I did, once, when I was working for Golodon. He used to come into the tower every second day with a body over his shoulder. I would look at him all suspicious-like and ask him where he found it, and he would just shrug and say vaguely, "oh... around". It took me a while, but eventually I decided Golodon wasn't being entirely above-board with me on the body issue. Since then, I've never trusted a wizard with more arms and legs than he was born with... unless he's been polymorphed, of course, but even then it's usually wisest to keep your distance.

Hmmm... Are you well versed in soundscapes, soundtracks and such? No offense meant by it. It's just that I'd hate to hear inappropriate music in the different situations. It kind of ruins the mood, if it isn't right. NWN soundtrack may not be the best soundtrack in the world, but it's appropriate in any case. The development team did a, mostly, good job at placing certain tracks for certain situations. I just don't wanna be stuck with weird misplaced music.

The issues with Baldurs Gate 2 voicesets and such are that they are made to show banter in game. A lot of that stuff you like about them couldn't be included, as the game only has specfic voices for specfic things.

I'm musically inclined, I suppose, if that's what you're asking. I didn't put dark and scary tunes in, say, a good temple or anything. As I said, I tried to match the tones of the pieces as best I could. I like to think I did a pretty good job, but that's up for debate! 90 MB is a rather large download to take arbitrarily, I understand. If you do give it a try though, just back your stuff up so you can easily revert if you choose! :)

I will say, however, that overall the Baldur's Gate music seems to be more serious than that of the NWN tunes. I personally find this more appealing than the NWN standard. Looking back, I find the old music rather flimsy and too happy-go-lucky. I like that the BG sounds add a bit more uncertainty, danger even. Maybe I'm looking too far into it. I just feel that it makes things more intense.

I would be happy i only the battlecries were included. How fun it would be to play a gnome if you could get sentences like:
"Take that, turnip hatin' scum!"
"Your knees are mine!"
"By Uncle Scratchy's thumb!
And my favourite: "I was only looking for turnips, I swear!"

C:\NWN\Neverwinter Nights\Music

If you did a custom location when you installed NWN, it'll be there. That's just the default location though. Make sure you back up your music folder beforehand!

I know enough about Baldur's Gate modding to be able to extract those sounds, though I don't know anything about how NWN handles voice sets.

I understand why it doesn't work and it really doesn't seem that hard to fix it. It would involve me changing the hak though, which I think might deny you access from the server. The only other alternative is to rename each item of that override so that the prefix is "is_" rather than "fot_". I'm not sure why the creator did it that way.. just makes a lot of trouble.

I have a solution, hendrack. It'll involve overwriting your Amia_v2_a.hak file though. You can PM me with info on how to send this to you if you like. It's fairly small in size. I tested it and it worked great.

I highly recommend against modifying your hak files and if you do so, we will be unable to provide tech support in the event that something goes wrong.

I've backed mine up just in case I've hosed something. I would recommend the same if this modification -does- get used.

I guess this is a good time to mention that Disco is planning to add a lot of music to the hak, so I'd hold off, in any case.

Is this for sure hak-based or will it be an optional music addition?

It is optional based, but I have a feeling every designer will be using it, so it may as well not be.

This is very, very, very likely to happen.

Download that override when it is released.

I have an intense dislike for "Things that are optional but so necessary they actually aren't optional", is all, and think they should be simply integrated if possible.

You have a point there.

EDIT: Of course, I have not had sounds on for like, 4 years, so I would not notice either way.

Its the same as the blasted head and hand packs. Those are so used that they aren't optional really, and should be included in the hak pak.

Hence why I feel it should be optional in this case. In other cases, I agree with you Tormak. Separate heads just make another download to fuss with for new players (and old, come update time).

Don't put the hands and feet mod in the hak D:

Then other servers would look ugly when I check them out.

You can have both a hak and an override.

The unlcok all portraits override no longer works, since the Hak too, I noticed.

Then again, all my newest characters I make end up with custom portraits so it's not that big a deal, for me.
