Okay. Now I'm sorry that if this is in a sticky or a reference page, but I couldn't find anything and I just have to ask..

What are the rules when it comes to rolling bluff and intimidate on other players?

Ive been on some servers to where it doesn't matter and that it is up to the player to behave his character accordingly. And others were very strict when it came to dice rolling.

Example: Warrior walks up to mage. Warrior rolls an intimidate to scare the mage into giving him gold. Mage rolls charisma, wisdom, concentration idk. Warrior rolls higher.. then what? Does the mage have to give him said gold or atleast RP him giving the warrior gold? Just an example. I understand str, dex, discipline, etc because those aren't as personal as the mental aptitude of a character.

Between players it cannot be enforced. Means you can roll but if the other player acts on it is up to him/her.

Also another player cannot force you to roll.

Mind, a DM however can and can of course also enforce the reaction to a roll.

It's up to each player, aye. Also, Amia's dicebag includes a "vs. intimidate" roll, I believe. So that would be the one to use, if both parties involved agree to it.

DISCLAIMER: The below is my understanding of the rules in these situations. I'm not a DM, and I may be wrong on some points, but I'm 90% sure it's correct.

Rolls are only enforced when a DM says so. That said, they can add some hard numbers to RP. My rule of thumb is RP it out correctly, and if you want make a roll to give the other person and idea of how well you are pulling whatever off. But if you are both sensible, you can hash it out together (depends on the situation).

As for giving gold, you never are required to actually give gold or items to someone, even if you are being robbed. You can simply emote doing so.

only DMs can enforce rolls and no players have to roll, unless ordered by a DM... Grapple is the exception to that rule.

I react to an intimidation only when its done right and not "OMFG U SHUT UP NAO*rageflauntintimidationmod*" or something equally annoying XD.

I don't tend to roll. If my character has low Bluff they'll just not lie very well. If my character has high Bluff I'll try my best to conceal the lie in my character's speech and body language. Same applies the other way round, if it's roleplayed believably I'll have my character believe it, or be doubtful if they're good at spotting a liar. Generally speaking, a character with high Wisdom and high Spot (Since that's NWN's substitute for Sense Motive) is better at discerning lies.

Rolls are another one of those player consent things unless a DM intervenes, as has been stated. In my experience however since I do use Bluff and Persuade rolls often depending on the situation, most of the players have been good sports about it and rolled as well. Even when they might see they have little chance to beat a very lucky roll lol.

On a seperate note I gotta ask what is the counter to Persuade? I've been told by a player that it was a Will save, but to me that seems silly as getting 50 is Persuade is a hell of a lot easier then getting 50 Will lol. I was told by another player that Counter Intimidate could be used to counter persuade. Are both of these exceptable to counter Persuade or is there a better option yet?

There is no counter to Persuade. There is a set DC to affect the target.

And for crying out loud, don't counter-roll something like Persuade. Not only is that against the PnP rules, it also makes no sense from a psychological perspective: you don't perform some great feat of mental resistance if someone makes a good argument and presents it in a convincing manner. You don't go "damn he's right, and I like him as a person too, but I must disagree for the sake of it!"

I roll persuade to show my skillpoint investment and possibly add a random factor to how successful I RP my attempt being. It's up to you to decide if your character is persuaded by the argument and hopefully, if you are a gentleman or -woman, take the roll into account somehow.

The above posters are correct. Only a DM can -make- you roll and react on it accordingly. In PC to PC relations, it's up to the players involved as to whether they will or won't react to dice rolls.

Keep in mind this is different from a grapple roll, believe that is the only roll that is enforced.

Ah ok, I just assumed. Every time I use the Persuade roll I get a tell asking "What's the counter to Persuade?" Now I know. "And knowing is half the battle"
