Muharib makes several copies of this letter and distributes it among the guards and some of the more known citizens of Djedet. He himself also makes the rounds from hovel to hovel speaking these words, attempting to win over the people.

People of the Khalil,
Strong and Noble Folk,

Em-Hotep Nefer Weret, I have come to you to ask of your assistance. These times are dark and taxing upon us all. As you know Djedet's guard is small compared to the daunting task before them. I seek able bodied men, from the ages 16 to the ages forty. They will receive just compensation in coin, weapon training, food, drink, and shelter. These men will serve until Djedet has purged the foul beings who wish it to fall and then they will be given the choice to stay in service as guards or possibly as the newly formed militia should they wish, hence they will be made to the first unit of the Djedet Militia and their pay may increase.

Mahir Ramathant
Sekhry of Djedet

The Elder Council,
Wise and Just they ever shall be,
May they be be prosperous and cunning in their decisions,

Em-Hotep Nefer Weret, I have come to you to ask of your assistance. These times are dark and taxing upon us all. As you know Djedet's guard is small compared to the daunting task before them. A reply is swift though not from the Khalil,

Soft-skin,

The Silver-scale tribe still awaits the answer of the child of Bahamut, the Khalil inform us of your need. We wish to know if the agreement she made will be honored or if the Silver-scales march to a final death.

Attached to the notice as if a signature is a single silver painted scale.

The Elder council of Djedet after a few ten-days of consultation deemed it appropriate that the guard force within Djedet be increased and made this proclamation of conscription for any males between the ages of 16 and 30 not currently working as a merchant or tradesman nor integral to the towns administration take to the training offered by the Mulhorandi.

This amounted to fourteen men, all of the age of youth and not yet beyond their 25th year, no more, no less.

Asiya would see to these recruits... and ensure they are fit for such duty.

Mahir meets with each man to judge how best he can serve. By speaking to him and sparring with them briefly. He tells them to come ready, on the morrow. Training is to start

Asiya would give Mahir the final say on guards he would see fit.

While tinkering away with the device just outside the western gates, Ranallas would occasionally pause to watch whatever drilling and sparring might take place. Though he seems to hold keen interest in the proceedings, and even seems to take the occasional note or two in a journal, he makes no move to join them.

The servants of the avenging mother will offer to properly equip these recruits, in the amount of 20,000 gold lions for each man. The Sekhry may call upon these funds at his convenience.

The Elder council issues a further decree, demanding that the Mulhorandi pay for the services of the people they will commit to the cause. 5 thousand gold per man, per lunar cycle, including those already active in the service of the guard. The total cost that Hlamar informs Mahir is 100 thousand gold per lunar cycle for the upkeep of the guard.

Asiya would here this decree and seem a little amused...

"didn't realize we were dealing with ones as shrewd as the Calimshites... or maybe they are learning from us"

she would grin slightly and head off to see to her duties.

The troop training would appear to many as overly strenuous. The men though would appear in good morale and enjoy becoming greater than what they once were. As the time passes by they learn to march in step, fight in tandem and shoot bows in volleys and the like.

They become stronger physically, and mentally more sound. Carry themselves with more dignity and pride. Mahir is seen drilling them repeatedly and with great gusto. But also talking gently to each one to learn about them and build them up after braking them down from a days long hard work.

The men 16-25 year old men are forced to help volunteer around town after a days training, carrying water or fixing the houses still in disrepair. Mahir does not supervise, but readily joins them. Afterwards they retire to the barracks by the small spring in front of the towns walls.

Before first light the men exit the tent for a run with heavy sacks laden with sand. Each day a shovel full of sand is added to each pack by another soldier. They run around Djedet, their footfalls scraping near silent on the shifting sands. Returning they shower before a quick meal before a four hour session of weapon drills. Every 3 days they are allowed to return home for the night. But first call is expected just as early.

One of the men, Ishan is found with a rope around his neck, and down the well. Unika pulled him out fetching water that day. The only evidence left at the scene is boot prints in the well mud.

He goes to meet with the mans family, a burden of responsibility upon his shoulders.

Mahir finds one of the men in town who is a skilled tracker to see if the print has any marks that would be noticed. Be it, a chip in the sole of the shoe, an unusual method of walking, or a distinct pattern of the print.

The mans body if not to marred is looked over by an elder of the town hopefully, to see where any marks showing what happened would be, if he were poisoned, stabbed, wrestled over and the like.

Once they are done he brings the men of the unit together to pray and then instructs them in the fashion of a military funeral if that was the wishes of his spouse.

Salema, if it is likely she could have heard what happened, would offer to assist in any way that she can, given her skill in medicine and healing, at least to try and discover what happened.

The melancholy druidess would spend some time attempting to study the tracks, and then wanders far from the town to a secluded location. She uses her magic to ensure she wasn't followed, and confident that she was alone, assumes the form of a large, sturdy raven. She spends some time riding the thermals of the desert, looking for any unusual creatures or people roaming or camping in the sands. Assuming she finds nothing of interest, she returns to Djedet, approaching from a different direction than the way she left. She then patiently takes of residence there, this time doing a passable imitation of a bird. She spends days in the form, going so far as to live off scorpions and lizards if she must, but always watching the streets for foul play, especially at night.

No evidence was left on the body, it seems that it was a simple case of the well rope being wrapped around the man Ishan's neck and then he was pushed. The resulting fall killed him instantly when the rope snapped his neck. As for the bootprints, they are of average size, yet deep in the mud, suggesting a heavy set man or woman.

Mahir tries to ask around if any know who was seen around the well.

He ask the soldiers who might dislike Ishtan.

The soldiers are established into a buddy system, with one three men group. They are now 19 including the guards.

Bright'n'early the next day, before the dawn, Ranallas joins the training regime of the militia, at the Sekhry's recommendation.

Though the rather scrawny, easily exhausted man clearly has trouble keeping up with the training and the other, more fit trainees, his determination is fierce. With his traditional coin again nowhere in sight, Ranallas takes to every task he is given with complete devotion to the work at hand.

Aoth sits back and watches from a close distance, eyeing the combat ability of the men with keen observation.

A suggestion is set forward by Aoth to the priests and priestess's of Djedet, he beckons them to commence a Speak with Dead spell, to determine the event leading to the outcome of the mans death. He would give a sigh as he retreats back to his studies.

"It is the old who should be passing, not the young.."

The men are prepared for a helming ceremony.

They have passed basic training of sorts and are now to be considered official members of the guard after their helms are placed.
