Thought it might be fun to know what the spawns bark and hiss and growl at us all the time. Are their battle cries actual phrases that are meant to translate into something, from their various languages? Or just a bunch of nonsense syllables that don't mean anything but "Ooo, I'm a scary monster"?

I'm pretty sure this is the case, but I have no evidence to back it up except: Bioware.

I believe it properly translates to "Hello kind stranger welcome to our humble home we wou- Oh god why are you stabbing us?!"

But yeah the actual sounds seem to be just "monster sounds".

I suppose it just looks better than *generic monster grunts and gurgles*

Or maybe "We are your friends! Ack. Ack."

You'd have to ask bioware. It's what their voice sets say.

Would be cool if kobolds (or goblins?) pc's could understand the gibberish.

They're saying "Don't mule or the DMs will strip your ass." :wink:

They just say what you hear from the voicesets I th..ink

"Your mother is a two dollar whore."

But yes, what has already been said. Especially given that some creatures are given the same voicesets, i.e. Slaads and some trolls or orcs. Or is it trolls an orcs that have some cross over... I can't remember, but yeah, nothing explicitly.

Now if you play a linguist and want to make up some interpretation for what they're saying IC, I don't think anyone would fault you.

I guess my curiosity was more along the lines of, for some of the languages that these creatures would be speaking, whether there was some sort of glossary out there somewhere that's commonly accepted enough that it approaches being canonical. Sort of like there is for drow, and to lesser extents, elven and draconic.

I looked and didn't really find anything. Not that I would. It really doesn't matter much what they say, since none of your adventurers give a damn about their opinion, anyway! And with that, case closed.

What are they saying?!?
