Haven't tested it but they should - when you pick feats, turn undead will be in the list of feats you automatically get for that level. Same with if you have two feats on a level, you can take power attack, and then take cleave. Crippling strike should work regardless.
Question about Arcane Archer! What epic feats should I take on a drow Monk10/Wiz1/AA17? Having only 4 to choose from (I could go 5 if I want to sacrifice my skill dump) I figured ESF: spot, EWF: longbow, and Armour Skin. Prowess (or great dex, haven't checked ability scores yet but either way) for the last, or will I be desperately needing something like Epic Fort? ...Oh and if that build as I present it is epically bad, let me know. It seemed okay, 17AA snags +9 arrows after all.

Crippling strike won't work without at least one rogue based sneak attack rank. (One from an item works as well.)
You shouldn't need Epic Fortitude, as all your pre-epic classes except wizard have a high fortitude save.

Bini wrote: Crippling strike won't work without at least one rogue based sneak attack rank. (One from an item works as well.) Not trying to be a pain, but are you SURE? I know it doesn't work with Death Attack, but the sidebar reads thus: Crippling Strike As per the default feat. Note: For this to function, the Assassin must have at least one rank of Sneak Attack. The Blackguard gets 'Sneak Attack', and when you click the entry on the Wiki you get a description for 'Sneak Attack, Blackguard.' The description for Crippling Strike on the wiki IMPLIES it requires a rogue sneak rank ("This feat is only available to rogues, and only as a bonus feat, not as a general feat"), but I wanted to be 100% sure...

I would personally say it doesn't work, as Sneak Attack (Blackguard) and Sneak Attack are coded differently, not to mention the fact Sneak Attack (Blackguard) came from a NWN expansion pack whereas Crippling Strike didn't, so it'd make sense in my mind that Bioware didn't bother to check for it.
I can't say for sure, though. Why not try offline yourself to make certain?

I'd do that...but I have no idea where to begin to go about it. Wouldn't that involve coding feats into a mod of my own creation? That sounds like something that would have to wait for another day...or month. In the interim, I have characters to play. I'll be patient: maybe someone else has already tried this. Thanks for the responses! Back to your regularly scheduled Build Topic.

Or if you have to for some reason load the amia haks into a mod?

The only way I know of to obtain Crip Strike on a regular game is get to lvl 10 Rogue...which would also give me the debated 1 sneak rank. I COULD play a character on Amia up to the level needed to 'see if it works', but using an Assassin / BG combo without a level of Rogue sneak, that would be...24th level minimum (6 Ranger / 4 BG / 14 Assassin). If I'm going to play a character to level 24, I'd rather KNOW it was going to work.

You silly billy, just play the build you want to play, then request a rogue sneak attack 1d6 tacked onto an item, or wear a particular set of gloves.

I keep thinking Ranger 5/Blackguard 6/Assassin 19 now. The blackguards aura of despair would aid the assassin attacks quite a bit. That is if you can RP the ranger levels as being a "hunter" only, with no attachments to nature, since it would obviously clash with blackguard.
+2 damage vs. one favored enemy, plenty of sneak, high DC special attacks, and divine shield/might. Nom!

Cleric, druid, paladin, and ranger spellcasting is wisdom-based. This has several consequences. The highest spell level that these classes can cast is the caster's base (unmodified) wisdom score minus ten, while bonus spells are given to these classes based on the caster's current (modified) wisdom modifier.

well you might has well do 21 bard/4 cot/5 kc. Bard already can discipline dump so you don't need the last CoT level in epic. The extra bard lets your spells last just a bit longer.

If you took that extra level off of Bard and slapped it onto Divine Champion, you could score Divine Wrath for a bit more burst AB, however.

The Bard 21 gets you nothing really except a shiny (and useless) 'Epic Bard' feat. Bard 20/CoT 5/KC 5 is better, plus you can spot dump there at the end.

Well...
Going 12/3/5 Bard/CoT/KC pre-epic loses one pre-epic feat, but gains an epic feat from the fourth CoT level taken in epic levels. Has base saves of 11/12/13
Going 12/4/4 Pre-epic has base saves of 12/13/13 Going 11/4/5 Pre-epic has base saves of 11/12/12
All result in a 17 BAB
I'd go with 12/3/5 or 12/4/4, depending on how the feats turn out.

Hello again all. My caster druid is really great, but with the added spells the druids got here I came to think if it was possible to make a melee druid (min. 20-25 druid). I did some fiddeling with fighter lvls included, but in the end I came up with using the elementals was better, going in old caster route (28druid/1ranger/1rogue), but with different feats of course. Can it not be done better?

Druid24/Fighter5/Tumble1 is a solid pick. Four attacks and EWS makes you a considerable threat in terms of damage dealing, too. You can change the latter two classes to fit your taste as you see fit.

DC of the assassin attacks will still be that of a level 20 assassin due to the aura. Just have to go with 12 cha at least to enjoy the divine shield/might.

You only get +2 damage with WS, but with the increased power of Blood Frenzy you will reap +1 AB/regen/damage and your spells become a tad better and not subject to greater dispelling.

But it isn't really a good idea since your crit range is 19-20.

It was more surprising and fun during the previous version of Dev Crit. I used to run a dev critting AA. Most of the strength is in surprise, but something you should also consider is that when you knock someone down, your AB takes a -4 because its ranged.

Not talking about from a mechanics standpoint. Just you don't use your direct strength score when using a bow since you're pulling back a string, which then launches the arrow through the release of its tension (not your sword arm). When devastating critical is just an ugly, brute force attack.

Hrm, I could swear I saw dev critters pwning 300 extra magical damage on dev crits when the change was implemented. I guess I was wrong.
I suppose Dev crit isnt worth it then, but overwhelming crit is still nice to have, no? x3 should give 3d6 extra. I do find it a bit odd the way D&D implements archery. From what i know, longbowmen atleast were often immensly strong to be able to use those bows, and the stronger you arem the harder your arrow hits, no?

That was changed a long time ago. If the bad guy had already been knocked down by dev, it would do hundreds of magical damage based off your weapon on your next dev on them.

To counter that, Bobo, my archer ended up using a bow that would have been extremely difficult to even pull. And he had trouble wielding regular bows (Especially shortbows), due to his habit of tugging back some a string on a veritable tree trunk. So his devastating critical wasn't just a well placed arrow, it was an arrow flying at screaming speeds and backed by a large amount of force.

On that note, has it been considered to allow for higher mighty bonus to ranged weapons to accomodate stronger archers?

The solution would be to start throwing axes If a bow becomes too mighty, which means that you put so much strength in it, the bow might just as well shatter at that point where it is super pulled back.

With the related questions: does Dev Crit also do bonus damage on failed save, or have I misunderstood something? Doable. A dev crit does no bonus damage, it just knocks the guy down (or does nothing), meaning it's even more nonsensical to use with a bow. The lingering effect is blindness, which is extra juicy when you can shoot at your enemy from a distance and it tries to panic its way to safety. I would say the nerf didn't hit the gimpypants ranged Devthing too hard in the bollocks at all. So if you want to be less mainstream, go for it, bro. Master_Sarevok: I'd say Wizard23/Cleric6/Dump1 to be your safest bet. Wizard16/Cleric4 pre-epic gets you just the right amount of BAB pre-epic to net you three attacks per round, and you can use your cleric trickbag for an occasional high in combat. Also, as you will be able to afford the feats, you might want to consider using Divine Shield/Might, although in the end they contribute very little to your overall performance. If you want more of the holy juice, you can always do the classic InsertClassHere21/Cleric9 thingmy. Alas, it suffered a great deal as a result of the Divine Power nerf, as it was the essential thing granting the power burst the total of four attacks as well as a monstrous AB for each hit. The gimmick cleric dose was definitely an innocent victim of the nerfhammer, but so it oft is that the little things have to suffer for the world to make peace. Still, it works decently if you want to try it. It's about the same as the version I first suggested, only with longer holy drive in combat and less overall goodness.

Mr. Hackums wrote: It was more surprising and fun during the previous version of Dev Crit. I used to run a dev critting AA. Most of the strength is in surprise, but something you should also consider is that when you knock someone down, your AB takes a -4 because its ranged. Yeah, firing at knocked down targets gives you a -4 penalty, but you are still an AA and the immobilized target loses dex and dodge bonus, so it would still be beneficial in the end I would say.

Anyone got any ideas on what I can do with this? ...This is...well. Frankly, I'd play the character as either a Magic domain Cleric, or an especially pious Wizard. If you want to be both these classes I'd shift them way out to ....well, not far from a 29/1 split either way, in which case you could be a Cleric with a familiar, or a Wizard with Prayer power. I don't think Multiclassing a spellcaster is a good idea
