Hi.

Been forced to be away for a while and had to get a new computer. Upon returning to Amia, after re installing NWN, getting the Critical rebuild and the required Amia haks and the optional hands and feet and heads again, i find the Head pack isnt working so i dont see many of the heads on others and my charaters anymore..

The Haks work fine and the Hands and feet but not the heads.. Downloaded it and put the file into the overide folder with the hands and feet but dont see the heads in game... Not sure if there is somethingf else i have to do. It was all i did on my old PC and heads worked fine then, though that was Windows XP and this new PC is Windows 7

I could say i am loosing my head over this but i would be shot for bad puns...!? Oh!? to late. *ducks*

You were probably getting the outdated ones from here. (Hint hint, mods)

Thanks for trying but no. The "viewtopic" link is where i got the heads from, not the older one. Not been away that long lol..

Oh yer.. Also they are not choosable in the character creation.. its not just not being able to see them. Couldnt choose other heads for a new character either.

You'll never be able to choose them at creation, unfortunately. You'll have to use the chart to pick one you like and ask a DM to apply it for you. Double check that you are extracting them all to your override folder and that you don't have them tucked inside a subfolder within overrides, that'll make them not work.

Go into your override folder. the heads will likely be in a subfolder marked "heads". Pull them out and put them in the override folder proper. That'll help. :)

Is that science.uva.nl actually linked to from anywhere? Because that's Disco's personal stuff, so it's not like I can change it. :P I just (or at least, think I did) removed any reference to it and instead gave the updated headpack link wherever necessary.

There ya go! 7zip will take care of that, and it's free.

I'm getting a new laptop and I'm going to be installing NWN on it. Thing is, when I tried to install it on another computer I couldn't see the heads at character creation. By that I mean I couldn't see any heads but the basic NWN vanilla heads. I can see all of them in game fine, and I know that some heads a DM needs to switch over.

I'm just wondering what I can do to prevent this before I install NWN on my new laptop so I won't have to spend hours trying to fix it, or reinstalling.

My main computer has all the CEPs, etc. With the new install I just did Amia's downloads, since it's the only server I play on. Maybe there was something in one of the CEPs that sort of... unlocked, I guess, the additional head slots for character creation? Or did something just screw up?

CEP might actually be screwing you over, since Amia doesn't use it. I'd ditch it.

That's the thing. On the computers without CEP (now including my new laptop), I was having that problem. On mine and my husband's computer that both have CEP 2.3/2.4, we didn't have that problem or any problem at all.

But I found out why, anyway. It's because in CEP 2.3 and probably versions before it there were files that allowed custom heads to be seen in character creation. Apparently if you don't have these files you're screwed. I found an alternative, though, to having to download the entire CEP if people don't want it.

This link fixed everything for me. I just had to download it, empty out my override folder, extract the files from my recent download and put them in the now empty override folder. Once those were in there I went about putting in Amia's head pak, which overrode the looks of the "CEP Heads" so I'd have the right ones. I checked it and everything works like it should.

So basically if anyone is going to be (re)installing NWN on a computer and don't want to go through getting CEP, they at least need those files to see more heads than the original NWN ones at character creation.

Crazy huh?

Handy, if in fact what you see is what everyone else sees. I'd be interested in confirmation of that.

I'll test it some more but so far the heads match up to the numbers given in the head list in the Rules & Lore section. I'll mess around with it just to make sure though.

Out of curiosity, does the CEP have additional heads that Amia doesn't use? If it does then wouldn't you be able to see those heads at character creation, but they wouldn't be visible to other players in-game?

I was wondering that myself. I personally never noticed it. I mean, I didn't have people telling me they couldn't see my head and I haven't chose one that didn't show up IG. I THINK Amia's head numbers line up nicely with the CEP heads. I've never looked so...someone else, that's dealt with the head pack like a DM or someone, would have to answer that.

I've only started playing Amia off my main computer recently and that's when all the head problems started. Before this I had all my NWN files saved on discs that were lost (probably when I was moving), so if I had to reinstall or got a new computer I just popped in a disc.

But from what I've been looking at, testing, and reading, people who don't want CEP and only play on Amia have to have those head files else they will never see 'custom' heads again at character creation. I don't want to jump the gun here and say it's fact because I'm still not for sure. I just know downloading those files fixed my problem, when nothing else really did. If this IS true I think it would be neat if those files were added to the Amia HAK the next time it was updated or something along the lines.

CEP has tons and tons of stuff that Amia doesn't use. For that matter, there is tons and tons of content on the nwnvault that cep doesn't use. I've spent a lot of time putting content together, organizing clothes and fitting them to other races for my own personal use, though that doesn't do us much good on Amia!

Heads are really a bit dated. There are lots of much much nicer options floating about, but I think custom content just hasn't gotten the love it deserves in quite a while. I think in part because Amia takes a minimalistic approach to haks and custom content. They just don't want to overload their users with big downloads and all that mess. For years, Amia didn't use ANY custom content whatsoever. That said, I'd really love to see more clothing options as well. But that's neither here nor there.

As far as getting your overrides to work in character creation, its a simple fix. All you have to do is log into the server on an existing character, and log out. (DON'T close the program entirely. Just log out and log back in from the server select screen.) All your overrides will be loaded in. Including your soundset.2da file, if you have one, that'll allow you to use any voiceset we have in game. But if you wanna learn about soundsets and how to edit those to be selectable for PCs, you'll have to start up another thread!)
