I'm curious about something about Maskarran Regalia, part of it's description states:
"It also has an unusual side effect: While wearing this clothing, thoughts of larceny and ways to attempt it come unbidden to your mind."
How exactly is this supposed to work? Is it like a subtle encouragement, voice in the back of the head? Or can it actively take the user over and force it to steal and indulge in mischief? Can someone of sufficient will resist what the Regalia does? Can it make someone prone to do things they never normally would, or does it just encourage the wearer to do things that already fit in with their personality? How about on an already particularly unstable individual?
Some clarification would be nice. ^.^

One of my characters has this gear. She borrows things and then doesn't return them. Picks the pockets of downed party members. Picks up loot that isn't suppose to be hers, then feels guilty and evenutally gives it to the person it was supposed to go to. Let me tell you it takes a lot for folks to call her out on it. I suppose I'll have to try harder, maybe go to lifting bigger and bigger items? Sometimes she doesn't realize she's doing it. Sometimes she just can't help it.

I imagine, based entirely on the wording of the description, that it would be something like this. So typically the idea would just pop in, "I could steal that, by doing ___" with varying levels of force probably dependent on the wearer and their stability/suggestibility. It doesn't seem to imply a necessary force so much as an impulse which can consciously be accepted or refused.

Serbiris pretty much has it right, IMO. It'd be like a sudden desire to take something, though no problem to resist for someone with decent willpower and self-control.

Would a mind blank or protection from evil block the induced thoughts?

It could, but I'd suggest not overly analyzing what is obviously flavor text. You could reason that your character is strong enough to block them out, if he has relatively high Will, Wisdom, or Charisma. It's simply an RP-starter.

I hadn't assumed it to be a property of the clothing, or any kind of sentience or cursedness. It's just a good set of sneak wear with a casting of rogue's cunning. If you give someone the opportunity to do something, there's a chance they'll do it. I always took the side effect to be more of a personal/internal motive rather than something supernatural or magical. Your enhanced skills (via rogue's cunning) gives you a better chance of getting away with what ever bit of larceny you're considering successfully.
