I'm curious as to whether there is any sources regarding the properties of building materials in the FR universe? Any help would be appreciated.

There's the below which serves as a guideline for just how far a batch of material goes.

I made a list as a bit of a reference for ingame building projects...

1 tile exterior stone (one level)
- 20 batches of granite (or sandstone/brick/wood, depending on model)
- 20 batches of mortar
- 20 batches of wooden planks (all of the same kind)
- 20 poles of wood (all of the same kind again)
- 2 batches of crystal or glass for every window
- 2 batches of iron or bronze
- For towers and multiple level tiles you multiply this figure by 1.5 for every extra floor.

1 tile interior
- 2 batches of granite (or sandstone/brick/wood, depending on model)
- 1 batch of marble (stone floor) or wooden planks (wooden floor)
- 1 batch of iron or bronze
- 1 piece of furniture (chairs, benches, carpets) for every 3 PLCs of the same kind.

This is the bare stuff. If you want golden door knockers I want to see a batch of gold, etc.

It's a rule of the thumb affair, but it gives a hint in the proper direction. Also bear in mind that this is just for reference once your building project has been approved by the dm team.

Here is the list of all the job system materials and is the Amian canon resources-resource of precedence, but I think it'd be completely within reason to supplement certain materials (such as granite, iron, etc.) with further information about their real-world counterparts.

I think he ment like what they do if anything, or maybe Hardness and Hit Points

Hellball deals positive and negative damage, so it's not like it even affects structures. Not in my opinion, anyway. In its current incarnation it's more like a nuclear bomb of radiation lethal to living beings.

As for building materials, you'd do best to look up research on historical construction. E-mail your local university, I'm sure there's someone eager to guide you to the right expert or books.

Probably a stupid question, but what is a "batch"?

I'm only familiar with metal, so would 1 batch of iron = 1 bar of iron per the job system?

That can be easily done until i get to the technicaility I require, for instance the Youngs modulus of mithril or adamantine, they might revoke my degree :p

To be fair I do not need an exact figure such as the youngs modulus but I will need some idea of how the materials compare to other materials such as iron even wood etc.

It's not FR-specific, but have you looked at the 2nd Ed sourcebook Stronghold Builder's Guide? Thee's some relevant stuff in there, IIRC.

From d20srd.org

Adamantine
This ultrahard metal adds to the quality of a weapon or suit of armor. Weapons fashioned from adamantine have a natural ability to bypass hardness when sundering weapons or attacking objects, ignoring hardness less than 20. Armor made from adamantine grants its wearer damage reduction of 1/- if it’s light armor, 2/- if it’s medium armor, and 3/- if it’s heavy armor. Adamantine is so costly that weapons and armor made from it are always of masterwork quality; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below. Thus, adamantine weapons and ammunition have a +1 enhancement bonus on attack rolls, and the armor check penalty of adamantine armor is lessened by 1 compared to ordinary armor of its type. Items without metal parts cannot be made from adamantine. An arrow could be made of adamantine, but a quarterstaff could not.

Only weapons, armor, and shields normally made of metal can be fashioned from adamantine. Weapons, armor and shields normally made of steel that are made of adamantine have one-third more hit points than normal. Adamantine has 40 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 20.

Mithral is a very rare silvery, glistening metal that is lighter than iron but just as hard. When worked like steel, it becomes a wonderful material from which to create armor and is occasionally used for other items as well. Most mithral armors are one category lighter than normal for purposes of movement and other limitations. Heavy armors are treated as medium, and medium armors are treated as light, but light armors are still treated as light. Spell failure chances for armors and shields made from mithral are decreased by 10%, maximum Dexterity bonus is increased by 2, and armor check penalties are lessened by 3 (to a minimum of 0).

An item made from mithral weighs half as much as the same item made from other metals. In the case of weapons, this lighter weight does not change a weapon’s size category or the ease with which it can be wielded (whether it is light, one-handed, or two-handed). Items not primarily of metal are not meaningfully affected by being partially made of mithral. (A longsword can be a mithral weapon, while a scythe cannot be.)

Weapons or armors fashioned from mithral are always masterwork items as well; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below.

Mithral has 30 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 15.

Would it be sensible to treat adamantine as titanium and mithral as aluminium?

that might be more of a DM area to claim... but if this helps Iron or steel has a hardness of 10 and 30HP/inch of thickness. so if wanted you could compair titanium vs iron/steel and see how the numbers match up.

Adamantine and mithral are magical fictional metals/alloys. I'd refrain from trying to make a direct comparison between any real world metal because it defeats the whole point of having them be fictional and makes them beholden to Terran science, rather than Forgotten Realms science.

Also a lot of RL metals/alloys exists in FR, even if they aren't readily available. Adamantium isn't titanium because titanium doens't disintegrate in sunlight if it's not specially treated. Similarly, mithral is certainly more resilient than aluminum, even if they might share a similar physical density.

Probably a bad idea then, was just food for thought, otherwise I will be writing books on the laws of physics of Amia. I would be hoping for something in a source book or something we can relate to RL otherwise I'll have to make some stuff up. And I don't fancy making the numbers up, since it just may not make any sense, I want someting thats entirely plausible within the FR universe.

Things I need are the flexibility, elasticity, durability.

The Stronghold Builder's Guide does have some arguably relevant info, if you can interpret the DC check required to break through a wall of various materials as an indicator of the material's brittleness. It gives the DCs as follows: adamantine 40, mithral 35, iron 30. So, maybe you could take the relevant measurements of real-world iron, and add 33.3% for adamantine, and 17% for mthral?

Seems a good source... I must find it!

Adamantine doesn't disintegrate in sunlight per se, only items blessed/enchanted by drow magic.
