We could just replace her with some wholesome fantasy art. Can someone photoshop some elf ears on there?

If we photoshopped a line across her hip to representative of an undergarment, she would be more dressed than a majority of the fantasy female art out there.

I was amused by this at first. I laughed my ass off. It became less amusing the moment someone didn't like it and a lot of you don't seem to care about that. The joke shouldn't have lasted this long as it is. I hate to say it, but I'm disappointed in how one of our rules and rights was stripped from one of our members while other members shoved aside her wishes in the name of the joke.
Whether there's worse "fantasy" art out there shouldn't make a difference if one of our members is offended by something that's being shoved in their face on almost every single page of this forum. It doesn't matter if you agree with her. The point is that someone was offended by the half-naked woman now on their screen and it is the right of our members to have an opinion and to state that it bothers her. It's in the rules and shame on everyone who took her rather constructive and understanding posts on the matter and strung her out like she'd done something wrong for not jumping on the wagon with people who don't mind the spirit of the joke.
tl;dr: She's in her right to be offended or bothered by it, and to say something about it. Please stop treating that like it doesn't matter.

I had something typed up, but Jes said it a lot better then I could. The joke was over when a member got cast aside and shunned when she said she didn't like it and didn't want to "fap" to it. I lost a bit of respect for individuals after reading through this, even if it was meant to be a joke. Sometimes you really just got to know when to knock it off.

Honestly speaking, I think this will drive more players away than attract new players. Porn is easy to get, and how many will come here and say "Oh, I should buy this game and play on this server" because of this banner?

I may be wrong, but I really think that with a ding of 2nd of April this thread will be gone as well as the naughty Amia in the upper right corner, as a part of the joke.
Thus the reason why people have no troubles to vent a bit of the steam. Kinda saddens me that some cannot. Not because of me, because of them themselves, y'know.

The point was a briefly amusing April Fool's joke that just ended badly. It wasn't Liz that made it end badly, either. It was the playerbase completely roasting her for mentioning that she's a woman with values and standards. It was the DMs who chose to side with the people who were attacking her. If anything will drive new players off, it's the reactions of the playerbase here and the DMs who corroborated with them.

My point is that all of our members have the same rights, and hers were tossed aside in favor of sexual humor. Theirs were not. All I'm asking is for some people to realize this. Usually, when a player is offended or bothered by something on the forums or in-game, the DMs make an effort to make things right. This sort of thing isn't appreciated by everyone, so it should not just keep happening despite it. And before someone makes the argument, this is not the same as one vulgar post or image in some thread. Those can be avoided easily. This is on every single page. As I mentioned before, this has been up for more than 24 hours. No one is in the wrong for speaking up.

Yes, that and people seemed to have forgotten the essence of creating a joke. A joke isn't about being as daring or as in your face as possible(even if that can be funny for a moment). After the first wave of silliness, this was basically just a lot of really bad jokes stacked upon one another and someone getting shunned for speaking their mind, which I find rather hostile and completely ruins any real humorous atmosphere. Just my take on it.

Players treat each other with respect, not matter how hostile the relations between their characters may be. Conflicts between players are primarily solved by the players themselves. A DM steps in when the players are unable to reach a solution that's acceptable to all parties involved. ^ Either way, if people follow this, then things wouldn't spiral down in the way that they have.I agree with what Derk is saying about how people act and its effects on new or even current players. The want of the server is to attract new players, not intimidate them before they've even had the chance to sign up, General discussion can be viewed without logging in, and they shouldn't see it after, either, IMHO.

It's their right.. and they spoke, also their right. To be fair, the concern should have been addressed and it sounds like it hasn't been. I think what needs to happen is the offending item should be taken down, the DM's involved ideally apologize but an apology from the team as w whole is as agreeable, and we move on from there. Everyone has a right to an opinion and to express that opinion without negative criticism from their fellows. Constructive criticism is a seperate manner, but that's traditionally more delicately or at the least, more functionally worded.

I didn't flip out at the porn star getting shoved in my face. I recognize that the internet is populated by thirteen-year-old boys whose brains float in a permanent puddle of testosterone, and that there's nothing I can do about that. Jes, I'm not claiming that I have the right never to be offended, and Grymia, it wasn't the "joke" that really bothered me. The world is a cruel place, and I'm a big girl. But I do insist that I have the right not to be insulted. If anybody cares to go back and actually read my posts, they'll see me state fairly clearly that I had every intention of just pointing out that the banner was tasteless and insensitive and then letting it slide. It wasn't until the conversation shifted from being about the banner to being about me that I lost it. I am not a prude, and I'm not going to stand for getting called names for voicing a perfectly reasonable opinion.

Whether or not the posts in this topic are particularly intelligent, I don't quite understand what rights and shunning Jes is referring to. Taking offense does not grant your opinion some extra gravity that demands to be taken seriously. Whether you take offense is entirely irrelevant to the substance of your argument. And I couldn't disagree more with Grymia's post - that's a very tyrannical view.
I also don't see an overwhelming alliance against Liz's opinion. Calling a woman prude and hysterical seems very rude and tasteless to me, especially because of the gender-historical connotations. That's an issue quite separate of the banner and people's reactions to it.
Meh, Liz already said the same thing while I was writing this.

What I said was influenced by numerous other posts from players prior to this thread acting in similar ways. Is it really that hard to show a neutral respect in the public forum and take any problems to PMs?

^ That's the thing, for me. We're all free to voice approval or disapproval. I had my own moments of being offended and how other people were offended and they way they expressed it. I don't think that either of us should be silenced, because of that. But I also don't think it's appropriate to insult them as people for their (clearly wrong! /that's a joke) opinion. That's where the issue really was. If there's going to be an apology, it should be for the right thing. I think Mana already did that, too? It's not about Liz having morals or values (what, the rest of us don't?) or being a prude or not. It doesn't make her more or less of a person, any more than it does for us who may have differing opinions or comfort levels. She stated that she was uncomfortable with being referred to in a way that made her feel insulted, whether or not it was intended. If we're all clear on that and the people involved can communicate and apologize if needed, then we ought to be all peaches?

Remove banner and lock thread? OR... Keep this going? I see us getting somewhere.

Well, whether or not your offense came because of the banner, Liz, you shouldn't have been reamed for expressing your opinion, which was the gist of my argument! Also, Iron, I'm referring to "A3" from this topic in the Rules. It's sad that you feel a player taking offense to something is irrelevant to my argument...which is solely about this particular part of the rules that highlights players taking offense to things.

I submit my personal opinion that everyone kind of needs to chill the fuck out over this, but hey, that's just me.
