The build has epic focus, just not one that helps epic summons. Epic mage armor also works better with the character, Ruin not so much. Maybe I'll work on something custom...

Here's my old Calishite Wizard. Perhaps you can get some inspiration out of it?

Quick question.

Will take Spell Focus Transmutation etc. extend the duration time of those spells?

Trying to think of ways I can increase duration of spells without using extend spell all the time.

The answer is no. The only thing your epic focus in transmutation extended would be the EMD construct.

Going to be playing a bard for the first time, any good builds for a newbie?

Way to many options. Tell us more about what you want or who the character is!

Is it worth going 20 monk/5 fighter/5MS, a mentioned, when you use usnarmed attacks?
I was thinking of a dexterity based monk, but I'm not sure if the MS items would be useful on my monk.

While the above, gives more fluff to my character, another build would be monk/ftr/rogue.

I toyed around with the possibility of using quarterstaff. BUt for a dextrous character the quarterstaff seems a tad useless since the 1.5 str modifier doesn't equal the 1d20 from unarmed.

Not necessarily, for these reasons:
- Warforged quarterstaff can be quite wicked (+2d8 physical damage, keen and +2d6 mass crits), far better then monk gloves (even with those +6 to hit, they can't be keen-ed). You can also mythal +4 enchantment bonus, unlike the gloves.
- Quarterstaff also should have one more mythalling slot over the gloves, being two-handed weapon (5 vs 4)
- it frees gloves slot (so you can use +2 str +2 con gloves for example, or standard +2 str(dex) +3 fort +8 disc ones)
- it has better chance to disarm enemies (if you decide to take disarm/imp. dis)
- it has better reach, so you don't end flatfooted in combat that often (very important for dex build unless you got 3 rogue levels)

Fists are really only useful in some RP situations ("Look, I'm coming unarmed to 'negotiate'."). Very few mobs have disarm, and it can be countered with discipline, items, or just plain shitload o AC (which shouldn't be problem with dex monk).

Edit:
Also to add this - any epic monk can use fists with more of less similar efficiency. Only difference between fist-focused monk and weapon-focused monk is 3 ab (WF, EWF) and 4 damage (EWS, you gain WS with master's belt anyway). So if something happens that you cannot use your weapon, just switch to monk combat gloves and you'll be as almost as efficient as fully trained fist-focused monk.

Because i was bored.

Warforged QS 1d6 + 2d8 + 21 + 6 + 4 + 1d8 = 35-54 = ~44,5 @ AB 42
+6 monk gloves 1d20 + 2d6 + 14 + 2 + 1d8 = 20-56 = ~38 @ AB 41

Note that +6 gloves are way cheaper than a warforged QS btw.

Hi everyone! I'm new here so I'm unsure of the level of magic items available on the server. I want a generic fighter/wm that will get me around while I get used to things.

Planning on STR based 10 Fighter /19 WM/ 1 Rogue. Should have 41AB completely naked with a welfare weapon. 39AB dual wielding. (again, no magic items). AC will be standard for a fighter with full tumble

Will I encounter problems hitting things? How is 41 base AB in the scheme of things?

First thing you might want to address is reducing WM to 16, otherwise you won't be able to take both Epic Weapon Spec and max Tumble/other rogue skills. FTR12/WM16/Rogue2 is what will suit you better. 1 less AB, but 4 more damage, max rogue skills and Evasion.

Can't go wrong with a swiss army knife. It'll work.

Hi, so the AB is fine?

I considered what you said and it's tempting, but your way gives me +6 damage and evasion, my way gives me KD, IKD and +1AB. While 6 damage (24 on crit) would be nice, I kind of want the IKD because it seems so fun while dualwielding and I'm aiming for fun. Also I'm not sure what you mean about not being able to max Tumble with 1 rogue level - I can still max it to 30 and get all the AC? Maybe I'm missing something. I planned on maxing out Tumble and Discipline.

Not sure if my build is decent but I made the 20monk/5ftr/5ms as best as I could in a nwn module. With the changes to harper scout, I'll get some feats more or less (dunno!) and other skills.

I started with snow elf:
STR 13
DEX 16
CON 10
INT 10
WIS 15
CHA 10

End stats:
STR 14
DEX 22
CON 10
INT 10
WIS 16
CHA 10

Feats:
Weapon finesse, WF, EWF, WS and EWS, IC querterstaff
toughness, dodge, mobility, spring attack, great dex I
Epic prowess, blind fight and armor skin

I was interested in taking disarm and Improved disarm but lack intelligence, skill focus spot or listen and epic skill focus spot or listen.

My BAB was 20.

Skills would be:
Discipline, tumble and spot or listen.

I declare myself a noob.

I no like it. Strength is for quarterstaffs. And you will miss out on the all AB from quarterstaff by having higher dexterity. Also if you are using a 2-Hander on a class without great AB (Monk), it behooves you to take improved disarm because it can give you quite a bit of extra AB in many situations.

I don't like going for 16 wisdom. It's costing you too much and its not worth it on a character thats not using it as a main stat most monks go for 14 wisdom.

I think you are trying to spread yourself to think here and master to many abilities (common monk mistake).

You can choose 2, str/wis/dex to focus in. To many and it hurts. 12 Wisdom gives you 1 less AC, but those same 2 ability score bonuses you used on leveling up you could drop into dexterity and have the same AC anyways and give yourself some AB...

I'd personally stack strength and dexterity with either 10 or 12 wisdom. Losing 2 wisdom and trying to make it back up isn't going to work. I mean it is, but its not remotely efficient and on a monk you really need to be as efficient as possible.

Im not on my usual computer so I cant offer an exact "what I would do" starting ability scores from elf then with snow elf template and then after leveling up.

However 16 Monk/4 Fighter in pre-epic and then the rest builds itself. Dodge, mobility, and spring attack are a waste really unless you're going for WM. I'd either go for the improved disarm and if you absolutely cannot get it, I'd take the saves boosting feats, because you can never have to high saves. Weapon finesse does nothing for you with a quarterstaff but it would help your fisticuffs.

EDIT: You need to request snow elves! Remember that!

Hopefully quick question:

An elven genasi keeps Sleep Immunity, Keen Senses, etc., right? It's just the elven +DEX -CON that gets overwritten?

Same with other races too, just the stat bonuses get reverted to 'plain nothing', humans also lose the extra skill point every level too, I believe, though.

human regional subraces receive the skill points each level from Skilled
human outsider subraces do not receive further Skilled skill points once the subrace is activated, but you will still get the 4 or 5 skill points from level 1 and 2

Hi there, I need some help with a character.

I have gone and made a Ranger/ Monk with a passion for poisons. Talona as deity of choice, but I forgot to enter her as deity upon character creation. Now I have gone to worship her idol, I see that she does not support any alignments apart from CE, CN, NE.
I foolishly read the AmiaWiki for my information, which states that she supports Druids, so I then made the assumption that she would support Rangers.

Any advice? Do I need to abandon this character and make a new?

She does support rangers. You, however, do not fall inside the alignments she supports.
You could ask for a rebuild, drop monk and shift your alignment, or you could make a new character.

Yea, I thought I might be grasping at straws once I found out Lawful was out of the question.

I thought Monk and Ranger would've been a perfect match, taking into consideration her followers that study to build personal immunities to various poisons and diseases. I had planned on taking Brew Potion as a Ranger feat, and also taking Herbalist a job major, then Alchemist as a minor, with the intention of possible DC Requests involving poisonous concoctions of varying degrees.

The other thing I meant to ask was, is there any other deity that might be able to fill that gap that Talona can not? I was given the suggestion of perhaps maybe Velsharoon, but I am unsure of the possible complications with Undead and the Ranger class.

Don't let anyone tell you how to play a class. Rangers can work just fine with any god, they are simply warriors that focus on exploration, specialized hunting, and survival. The fluff is just fluff, you can make it whatever you want as long as it doesn't break lore.

I don't think any of these gods are supported by the idol system, but do support LE, so you would have to do a request:
Yurtrus is the orc god of disease and death.
Moander is a dead power who had rot/disease/corruption, and I am not too sure about this source because I don't have Faith's and Avatars.
Other than these two I can't think of any gods off the top of my head that have LE worshipers.

That's disgustingly low for a dexterity based build and given the lack of additional damage from strength and the very poor statistics on quarterstave as a weapon type, it will be far from fantastic.

Elaborate? As i understand the WM only needs the feats required and a Weapon Focus to function.

Aye, my mistake, i misread melee and martial.
I strongly advise against strength monk builds though, AC is crap and you'll waste too many feats to get WM. AB and AC will be subpar to that of epic WM, and damage won't be better.

Edit: also keep in mind you need 13 int for WM, and that will put additional dent to already troublesome starting stat point distribution.

I agree with you Remal.
That's why I must emphasis that DEX builds will make an overall easier and more sturdy Monk then STR ones. Damage is worthless if you can't take any hits.

The Monk / Rogue or Monk / Fighter / SD are the ones I personally would play.

I am actually interested in a monk build that incorporates fighter and master scout.
Since it is using the snow elf template, it'd make more since to have dexterity over wisdom.

It's a snow elf, I'm trying to figure out what build would make sense considering the race's traits. They're feral so dual hand axes would make sense (A monk order of Auril trains in hand axes).
But nwn doesn't support it.

Hence I opt for quarterstaff, since I imagine a weapon would suit better. It'd be possible to imagine him using 'claws', which suits the concept of the Lone Wolf (Fenmarel), and use unarmed attacks instead. In fact, the brutality of shredding your foe suits a snow elf better than using a stick to defend your lands. Though, I'd need to verify if the idea is valid and allowed.

EDIT: Claws would certainly unease other elves, which is great!

Unlike quarterstaff, handaxes are finesse-able. You won't be able to use flurry of blows with them, but at least you'll have decent AB from dex.
On the other hand, they have low base damage, however, they have better crit damage multiplier and you can always keen them to increase threat range.

Oh shit. That's true .. You can't finesse a quarterstaff - So the only way a quarterstaff monk would actually work IS with STR.

Shit.

I've seen successful q-staff monks since they became an option. And I ahve a STR monk, I don't understand why they are shit on so much. They both havd their strengths, and yes DEX is more reliable, but STR monks are not as shitty like people say they are, from my experience.

Good luck buffing wis, dex, and str to +12. Even with monk gear and druid wisdom scroll, you'll have problems. And you'll need some con too, if you wish more survivability, since you definitely won't be killing off your enemies as fast as WM will.

I have a strength/WM wielding a two hander and it is outstanding... WHEN I have some cleric or druid about :)

Good luck buffing wis, dex, and str to +12. Even with monk gear and druid wisdom scroll, you'll have problems. And you'll need some con too, if you wish more survivability, since you definitely won't be killing off your enemies as fast as WM will.

Exactly. It may work if you involve cleric, but otherwise i doubt it.

Many monkitems on the server have a lot of extra ability bonuses, but nothing near what you need. After you max out abilities you have to get maxed fortitude, too.

I consider str monks nearly impossible to make efficient without a lot of magic.

An exiled Goblin more interested in singing and storytelling than fighting. Not much at the moment, want to see them develop.

A singing and storyteller doesn't have to be a bard, keep that in mind!

Which IMHO is kind of contrary to the nature of the class (at least in PnP). Heck, it's even more demanding than WM, and with my monk I often find myself depending on good roll from ability potion. Even with two +2 str +3 fort rings and base 16 con, her fort is still far too low for my liking. And god forbid someone mords you...

Anyhow, back to OP's idea: Master Scout can work with monk, considering all the trinkets MS gives and monk's inherent speed, and access to stealth skill, make him really fast scout.
You should go dex route, and dual-wield hand axes. I guess you want all 5 level of MS, or I'd suggest getting 6 SD for HiPS and Epic Dodge (but then you'd have another feat nightmare to deal with).

Yeah, it's one of those types of builds. Just wondering on the viability and all, especially with the Evoc/Necro combo. Necro is staying of course, but is there a better replacement for Evoc? Utility spells are nice, perhaps Enchantment? I dunno, I like the thought of tugging around a skelly familiar, Pharaoh, and a Dommed undead XD

One more question!

If I make a WM that wields a two-handed weapon... am I going to be at a severe disadvantage without a shield? Will things just tear through me?

I wanted to ask about a melee cleric build I thought up.

Aasimar

Cleric24/Ftr4/Rogue1
Domains: Travel/Trickery ( Tymora )

Str:14 ( end buffed = 34)
Dex:8
Con:12 (end buffed = 24)
Int:12
Wis:16 (leftover extra bonuses on items)
Cha:18 ( 30 buffed )

3 attacks per round, 4 while hasted

Key Feats: Divine Might, Divine Shield, Epic Weapon Specialization, focus, armor skin ...

My two main questions being :

Is a melee cleric without 7,8 and 9 th level spells viable? I personnally don't see a -necessity- in having them as well, for a melee Cleric all i'd be losing out on will be Mass Heal and Greater Restoration, and believe normal Heals and Restorations could work -okay-...

Secondly, with this build, there's no space for Mummy Dust unless I ditch Armor Skin. Your thoughts?

Seems like this builds has got the basics covered, potential for very high AC, high damage, great AB, etc....

Thanks.

Need 20 in your casting stat, for epic spells!

No. It will be noticeably tougher but you'll do okay, and with the right group you'll be fantastic. You will need to mind your HP though as it can start sinking fast. But if you really need to tank you can just switch out sword 'n board - it cuts your damage potential a fair bit but you're still a high-AB str class.

This is a little late now that we've moved on from Str monks but I've had positive experiences with them so I can only offer endorsement (leveled one to mid-levels, worked on/with one to ~25, non-optimized subraces in both cases). I have it on good authority that AC is sufficient and damage is shnazzy. Dunno about Monk/WM so much though.

Mummy Dust

The actual prerequisite is not the ability to cast level 9 spells, but being an epic cleric, druid, sorcerer, or wizard, or having at least 15 pale master levels. Furthermore, this feat can only be chosen when gaining a level in the qualifying class.

Quoted from Nwnwikia.

Though, on Amia, has it been changed, for , according to NWNwikia all one needs for Mummy Dusts is to be an Epic Caster?

Yup. An amia change, as noted here
