It's that time again!

As I start to put the scripting and encounters together for Pony's fine work on the new Darkhold revamp, accompanied by some fantastically dark, morose lore by Yossarin, I'm giving you guys another opportunity to have some of your own work put into the module.

I'm planning on doing something a little different with the encounters in Darkhold and so what you'll actually be submitting content for will be some of the very things you'll be fighting against!

What I'm looking for will be around 10 or so "characters" to draw from. I'm looking for a creative synopsis of what that character would have been like in the days when Darkhold was a thriving castle and burgeoning noble landholder in its own right. There are two in particular that I'm looking for, and an opportunity to craft a "pool" of a few other types, where the numbers are more variable. What I'll need is:

One priest of Lathandar (could be holy warrior, devout priest, pious nun, whatever)
One priest of Siamphor (again, could be just about any type of priest variation)
House magicians (could be wizards, sorcs, witches, warlocks, bards, or complete charlatans)
House guards (archers, guard captain, scouts, master of hounds, master of hawks, whatever)
??? (something else you'd find in a noble house that I haven't thought of? (should be intelligent humanoid))

Make these entries as "real" as possible; make them truly dynamic feeling. You don't need to provide pages and pages, just a good solid character portrayal. They don't need to be overly outlandish, just simple folk in a "simpler time" on Amia, with a stain of darkness that they can just barely make out from the corner of their eyes. If you're familiar with the World of Darkness setting, that should give you a feel for it; ordinary people who see only a glimpse of what hides in the shadows of the world.

I'll also invite Yossarin to provide any further details or impressions on the setting that he wishes to "divulge" to help you craft your submissions, since he's the original creator of the lore for the new Darkhold.

All submissions should be PMed to me please, and should include "Content Challenge" in the subject line so that I can sort through them a little easier. As always, any questions, please feel free to ask.

The chosen submissions will be twisted slightly by yours truly as your characters fall to an untimely demise in Amia's history, and come back in the present day to attempt to halt your every advance through the halls of Darkhold. That's right, you'll be battling the twisted Shades of the "normal" characters you've created!

Other things you might find in a noble household:

- Cup-bearer
- Herald
- Jester / Fool
- Keeper of the Seal
- Lady-in-waiting and Maid of Honor
- Page
- Standard Bearer
- Stewart

At least a couple of weeks, probably more. I can give a heads up as we get closer.

Is there a sort of continuing theme or something about the "stain of darkness" in pre-haunted Darkhold? Speaking as someone who isn't really familiar with the World of Darkness setting.

Basically, the potential for evil in all people. He's looking for ordinary folks, maybe with a gritty side. The court jester that snaps and turns into a terrifyingly colorful axe murderer, the kennel keeper that when twisted, uses his dogs to hunt other people, things like that. He's looking for the "before" picture, that while ordinary, has nightmare potential once they are "changed".

Is this the same Darkhold wedged in between The Far Hills and the Sunset Mountains? Or is this a homebrew area?

The Darkhold he's referring to is a hunting area on A. It's basically a haunted castle. It's reached from the eastern frontier, IIRC.

I know that, it's just that there is also a Darkhold just south-east of The Sword Coast, I'm just wondering if it's the same area, or two different areas, with the same name! There used to be a portal that lead to Wharftown, so I'm guessing the other entrance, accessed through the frontier, was also a portal!

Darkhold!

The Darkhold there is just a cheap knock-off of our own, so no, they are not the same.

And NC is right on about the meaning of stain of darkness. Think of normal people that would be in a castle community, but consider things like the secrets they may have kept, dark desires they had, etc.

Hopefully my retired adventuring cook will make it to the mod! :p

Any idea when we'll get a confirmation/infirmation of if the character was accepted? or will we have to find it by ourselves by visiting the place?

I won't be choosing them until I have at least enough from which to draw the ten I'm looking for.

Ditto.

Also is there a limit on how many we can submit?

No one mentioned the butler, he's the one behind it all.
Hmm, an evil Alfred...

No worries on delays, I've been delayed in working on it myself as well.

And no, you're not limited to one submission.

Arwen and Aluvard's haunting jester grandpa. See ya. (It's where they got all their original material, didn't you know?)
