Hi guys,
I feel like this topic has been made a lot of times, but whatever one more can't hurt can it?
Just got a new laptop windows 8.1 with some actual nice specs for a change, and was wondering how i'd go about setting up nwn for it.
also, where i could find my cd key. And probably need to track down disks as well.

nwn worked just fine as it was, for me. But if not, run it in compatibility mode for XP! CDkey should be in your.. NWN.ini file, I think? Not certain however

It's listed as nwncdkey, and it's a configuration file in your NWN directory, or that's how it is on mine, at least.

I had to do a lot to get nwn to work on my new computer. For months I thought it was impossible to get nwn to work, but my craving for amia kicked in suddenly, and I found a way. I forgot what I did, but if you google it right, you can get some guy's posting on how he got his nwn to work with windows h8.

Compatibility mode and run as administrator. It's how I run it on my Windows 8 laptop.

Hi mate! I was in the same boat!! Run as admin and put compatibility mode under as xp service pack 2, Make sure you download the 1.69 critical patch, Also when switching I dunno whether anyone else notices when you switch between game and other apps the screen goes black so play your apps before playing nwn

Hello,
I've found that adding the windowed mode options in nwn.ini lets me alt-tab without problems.
[Display Options] FullScreen=0 AllowWindowedMode=1 Disable Intro Movies=1

If your nwn.ini already has a [Display Options] section then add what's below that below yours. If not, add it to the end of the file.
Make sure to run nwnmain.exe as administrator. Compatibility mode shouldn't be required unless it still doesn't work, and may lead to graphics problems if enabled needlessly.

Hey there,
I finally procured a totally legitimate backup copy of nwn because I have absolutely no idea where my disks are. Does anyone know where I can find my cd key? (im not sure if amia stores it for validation reasons)
My old laptop isn't working very well, but i might be able to get it to boot for 5 minutes to dig into files. hopefully.

It's in the back page of the manual on most copies. Or on the computer, it's nwncdkey.ini in the NWN folder.

perfect, i didn't know there was a nwncdkey.ini
the manual, sadly, is probably way more lost than the disks themselves.
