If you want cool ubersneaky RP, then I say Bard20/SD10. You'll never kill anything by yourself, ever, but in FactionvFaction you'll be an irritatingly unkillable fly in the other faction's ointment.

Also interesting, though I typically don't plan for PVP more than a what-if scenario. I have a feeling I'll be rebuilding this Monk forever until I decide on sommat. Thanks

For PvE in places like the Abyss, how useful is Epic Spell Pen on a character with 27 CL? It is enough to break help through SR? Or is it pointless?

I'm assuming that (not including events) the Abyss is the likeliest place to encounter high SR. Could be wrong.

edit: Is Greater Spell Pen enough? Or should I just forgo Spell Pen completely with CL 27? I know it's more of a circumstantial thing, but it can be useful after all.

Le bumpity.

For the most part it will only be bosses that can spell resist you at CL 27, and only about a quarter of the time. It's not really enough to be annoying, and you'll always hit the mobs.

I recently made a paladin of red knight and it's just not doing it for me. I think I want a melee cleric but I've only ever built one and I messed it up. I've played loads of caster clerics tho. So my question is, aside from 4 full bab class levels preepic, what should I do different?

I'm on my cell at work so I hope to have some ideas for when I get off.

What about abyss spawns? I hear they have retarded SR. Or is it just saves?

Alright, I'm home from work

Human STR 14 DEX 8 CON 10 WIS 16 (20) INT 14 CHA 14 (18)
Cleric 23 Fighter 6 Rogue/monk 1

PreEpic Cleric16 Fighter 4: Extend, power attack, weapon focus, divine might, divine shield, maximize, KD, IKD, blindfight, imp crit, weapon spec

Epic: Epic Weapon focus, Great CHA, EMD, Epic Weapon Spec, Greater Ruin, Armor skin

I think weapon spec is a bit much and maybe I should get extra turning in preepic and something else in epic?

Extra-turning is a waste, you will never need it at 30 and barely ever need it during leveling with a Cha Modifier of 10.

On the flip-side Weapon Spec and Epic Weapon spec last all the time, even when you are out of turns but your party isn't ready to rest yet.

The most SR you can put on a creature's hide and indeed any type of item is a humble 32, same as the uberloot cloak.

Disclaimer: you can give as many Monk levels and Improved Spell Resistance feats as you like to the creature itself. I did that for the old Actand demon boss.
Other Disclaimer: The HAK might have changed the upper limit on item SR.
Another Disclaimer: I can't remember what SR the Abyssals actually do have on their hides.
Final Disclaimer: I wouldn't disclose it on the open forum anyway.

Yeah I wouldn't expect hard numbers, I was more looking for an 'should you be fine without them' sort of thing lol.

How much do base stats matter for Shifters, outside of feat requirements?

Would going mostly DEX do anything for dex-based forms, or mostly WIS do anything aside from some spell-like ability DCs? In order for any of the PCs stats to transfer and be of any use, they have to be higher than the form's stats, right?

Right, thanks, but my main question is: Does it matter at all, then, what stats a shifter has aside from feat requirements? If none of the feats you're going for have high stats, you my as well just pump it all into INT and pick up skills right? Sure you'd be dead outside your forms, but...

Could one make a viable build around the Isaac's Lesser Stick Launcher? I'm thinking some kind of WM/AA build (bard first?!?!) Dev Crit would be highly amusing but probably not possible...

WM won't work for crossbows, but AA kinda will: you get the ab bonus from enchant arrow but not the damage bonus. You also have to take weapon focus in longbow or shortbow to have access to the class, though point blank shot, which is also required, works for crossbow. You'll need to take rapid reload and your regular crossbow feats too though, which makes it a bit tight feat-wise. You can achieve great AB, but in terms of build power, you'd rather have the AA arrows as an AA, instead of the sticklauncher sticks.

It'd probably be better to use it on a zen archer divine might paladin or cleric, and there are several of those builds in the thread. Or a blackguard with the above feats, cause crossbow is blackguardy in my opinion!

On the subject of AAs, I've beaned my head against the wall for a few nights now on trying to make a feasible dev crit longbow type that isn't an AA. I can only assume this is not going to happen, correct? (the best thing I could come up with had 43 AB at best by the time it was done hitting 30, but it was a ranger base...)

Building a Ranger with 5 Favored Enemies. What are the best choices?

Here's what I'm thinking:

Aberration
Giant
Human

Reptilian

So my friend got me this game and we played around on a few crappy servers. Long story short, he quit and I am loving this game. I found this server and need help.

I have decided I would like to be a 24 barbarian/6 Fighter. I am wanting to take Half-Drow as my race, but not sure its feasiable.

I have looked at starting stats and along with that epic feat requirements. I am guessing I basically have to choose either strength or constitution build it seems. One of the epic feats requires 21str/21con and not even sure how that's possible....We only get 7 stat bumps right? I guess the only feasible way would be to change my race? I also noticed alot of the epic feats also require 25+ strength?

Which would you suggest, Str or Con?

Thanks.

Strength is good for insta-win and pure damage.
Constitution is good for survivability.
Mixed is great for a little bit of both worlds.

Guess I will go Strength as it gives me a shot at thundering and terrifying rage, but will miss out on the Mighty rage since it requires 21 con.

With 10 AA levels my sheet read 31 AB top when I attacked something it gave a combat log report of 26.

The classic Barbie is Barb24/Ftr4/Rogue2. The Rogue levels give you Evasion, UMB and 30 Tumble as well as a Sneak Attack, and are therefore much better than the Fighter levels' extra feat.

You're almost certainly best in the long run to stay pure Barb until 20 so that all your Fighter feats are epic, buuuut that means you won't get Heavy Armour Proficiency until then, and I can confirm that it's a pain in the arse not having Tumble until 21, and that's with Heavy Prof. You certainly need to delay Ftr4 until after you have Epic Weapon Focus, and then take it on a general feat level, because you need to take normal Weapon Specialisation as a general feat to get Epic Spec as the Ftr4 bonus.

Mighty Rage is fine, but as you said, unless you're a STR/CON boosted race, it's too hard to get unless you minmax brutally, and even then if you're going the CON route you probably want to take Epic Damage Reduct feats and you will struggle to fit them in as well as Epic Spec. Basically on most races, the STR build is the better plan.

Should be pretty simples to get Devcrit; it's nerfed on Amia, but still a fight-finishing feat for a heavy hitter like a Barb.

I personally hate Terrifying Rage, but I'm almost alone in that. The Fear effect is exceptionally strong in PvP, but it's a pain in the hole at all other times.

Not alone, I've summed it up a few times over the years:

PvP = Ability is Overpowered
PvM = Ability is Just purely annoying

I've played a few barbarians with Terrifying in the past. Early on when you get it, you're like 'Fuck yeah, I'm a beast and everything is scared of me!' And a week later it's more, '...Come back please so I can hit you with my sword!' Mosh summed it up really well. And Shroud's suggestion is pretty decent for it. You'd still be able to hit around a 50 if you really invested.

Not really. I'd rather consider EDK than EMD; the EMD summons are all pretty much all-rounders, and I'm not sure about the renovated Death Domain summon roster, but I'd imagine they follow the same principle. EDK at least is a totally badass dragon with Bioware TS.

How many cleric levels do you plan to take? I'm well into leveling my repose domain cleric (19 levels as of now which will end up at 28)) and have decided the answer to that question is NO. I'm not spending a Domain AND an Epic feat to get one Epic Summon. Based on the progression and the power increases so far I'm estimating that the 27+ version will be a good end game summon. The one I currently have is just on the tanky side due to a number of immunities but does a fair amount of damage. Not sure about the Death versions however but I wouldn't expect power levels to vary wildly given the alignment in concept.

Apart from the shocking duration. She's Necromancy focused.

30 Cleric. Velsharoon. So Death Domain will be an undead.

I heard there were going to be changes to death domain, so I was hoping to see if taking EMD was just going to be a waste when/if i've got a perfectly good summon to have in it's place.

I can't wrap my head around a good Quarterstaff-based Monk Build.

Pure Monk or 26 Monk/4 Fighter? Is EWS worth losing 4 Monk levels?

If you take 25/5 with 4 fighter pre epic you get an extra attack and take EWS on fighter 5 in Epic. 6 free damage all day long compared to a little speed and +1 AC. Yeah, It's worth it. 26/4 means you either give up EWS or the Extra Attack, and for what? Nothing. You get your Monk bonus feat at 25, 26 Monk gets you bubkiss.

Unless you are going for the All SR build you are better off multi classing.

Are there epic levels populated with undead and elves? I have no idea what most common PvM epics monsters, but I recall seeing a list somewhere similar to the one I posted, so that's what I was going off.

I guess elves could be PvP...

Pure Monk or 26 Monk/4 Fighter? Is EWS worth losing 4 Monk levels?

I'd actually go 25/4/1 Monk/Fighter/Rogue, skip EWS and get the extra attack. With 2-handed damage you should get sufficient damage. And the ability to use scrolls with UMD will be invaluable.

I guess elves could be PvP...

It depends on where you plan to go end game. I don't find myself doing the Giants that much because I dislike the new layout. The manor and mind flayers are always popular.

With Humans, Outsiders and Elves you have most of PvP covered.
Dwarfs, Half Orcs are pretty rare.
And I can't see you caught up in too much trouble with Gnomes and Hin.
Elves also include drow and the mindflayers have Thrall's which are elves.

Undead for Manor and Pirate.

Favored enemy constructs is also tasty for Maxi and the Treasure Chest.

Buy weapon essences. They're superior to flame scrolls and require no UMD. That said, I feel that UMD is slowly becoming less and less valuable on Amia, which is a mixed blessing. However, the ability to use Owl's Insight scrolls would be indeed very useful!

I'd go 25/5 too.

Interested in rolling an Evil Caster Cleric (have the background for him more or less) but the build i'm not at all sure of.

Can anyone make a suggestion for a caster cleric with secondary melee? are they viable? (race: aasimar or human)

Monk21/Ftr6/Rogue3 saves you these headaches for the cost of 1AC and the gain of 1d6 Sneaks.

Ah, good insights, thanks. Have only read about the epic areas, so strategies are hard to formulate.
As I've already rolled the ranger, taking reptilians as first favored enemy, can't change that one. But might be willing to drop giants in favor of elves or undead...something to consider. Thanks.

Personally preferred going the ranged route, simply because Zen Archery gives perfectly decent AB with minimal buffing, thus saving those slots for status effect castings and stuff for your party/summons. Melee is still viable, if unexciting.

Caster clerics aren't just heal/buff sticks, though: Evocation focus gives you hefty DCs on Earthquake and Hammer of the Gods. Negative Energy Burst from Evil Domain is de facto AC for your group since it lowers enemy STR, ie AB for meleers and is unresistable. Just don't ever cast it against undead that aren't your own.
Conjuration gives Storm of Vengeance, which is almost always superb.

Spam those and your party will often get to fight unresisting mobs.

Cleric29 and then whatever takes your fancy. Bard1 is my shout for Discipline/UMD/Tumble.

With the 3/4 BAB of a Monk you are better of getting EWS and skipping the extra attack.
