I am intending to revamp *pun intended* the lecture RP in Tarkuul. I will, myself, be holding basic and advanced courses of Necromancy, with strong possibility of expanding to the other schools of magic. If there are any interested parties who would like to participate in this either actively (by holding lectures) and/or passively (by giving suggestions), please do let me know and we will arrange an IC meeting for some RP, and discuss it.
Be creative. Arcana, history, the planes, shapeshifting, flight classes, religion, alchemy, astronomy.. Pretty much anything that can be taught and be made interesting for the audience of Amia. Naturally, your characters will be given a chance to learn of this opportunity through the IC notice boards in the days to follow. Also mind that one must possess sufficient knowledge of the matter if one seeks to teach.
PS I am aiming to have the first lecture scheduled for the next weekend, so this offer is effective immediately.

Good initiative!
I do feel its a pity this is in Tarkuul as it prevents people from attending.
Would be awesome if there was a 'neutral' location where all users of the weave could gather to have lectures and dicuss magic in relative peace. But maybe that's me daydreaming.

*shows interest*
Surely to participate, but openly giving lecture in Tarkuul might badly influence my character image ;D I have some lecture materials and can produce more, we can arrange something I think.

It is actually a great thing if it works. The efforts everyone in Tarkuul as a faction has taken towards public relations is epic, in a word. If they manage to offer more utility in magical instruction than they offer in creepy undeathness and lure magi there, well...fuck yeah.

Maybe this will prompt some good aligned mages into forming a counter institution. Like that old Monolith of Azuth.
Hint.
Hint.

Sounds like we need an order of templars to hunt down all this uppity mages!
That aside, this kind of RP could be very interesting if enough show their interest in it (and even if only a few do) depending on how it progresses. Either in bolstering Tarkuuls 'neutral image' or making others try to generate such things for those without necrophiliac urges.

Some PCs (HALLO AISETH) had the idea of a more neutral mage thing, and before that some other PCs (HALLO LETUM'S MAGE whose name I forget) also had the idea, but the efforts always seem to peter out before they can cross the big hurdle of building an appropriately phallic structure for their magery.

And Ulrik has had his turn being master of a phallic structure. I would have put efforts into seeing a new Academy of Azuth, Monolith of Mystra, Symposium of Savras or whatever built but decided to allow another character to take the fore of any efforts, given the frequent 'All-star' accusations that hit Ulrik. So if anyone is expecting Ulrik to do it? Nope. Another problem is the more neutral and goodly inclined mages who would like to build such a thing are too often busy saving the world from whatever the elder-evil-of-the-month is. The less savory mages have the advantage of not being morally obligated to save reality. While my PC will not be leading any efforts, he may just be a wealthy and experienced patron. Hint. Hint.Hint.

I would gladly help build you that tower with Robert, Nivo, as long as it is like in Dragon Age and all of you weirdos can be locked up and guarded by an Eternal Order-type group. >.>

I know. If only someone would have tried to work on something like this a few months ago without political nit-pickers getting in the way of its earnest prosperity.

Kierenis was working on this, yes. It was intended to be a truly neutral mage locale, attached to no city or faction. I worked on it for nearly half a year before it came to light that none of the progress I had been trying to make was communicated to the rest of the DM staff. So when some other people were trying to take over the area I had been working in and tried to get another DM to help me oversee and confirm the progress that had been submitted, they had no idea what I was talking about. I had essentially been pissing into the wind for months because of the way it was mishandled. One of the many reasons I left as a player. But, I hope someone can pull it off because something like that is still needed as an alternative. Tarkuul shouldn't have to water itself down to become a neutral place for learning if that's not what they intend to do. There should be the full spectrum of dark, neutral, good arcana RP without having to compromise one to half-fulfill the other. By the way, since I'm already rambling here, you've done fantastic work, Dead. I wish I'd had a character who was inclined or capable to be more involved in the Academy and really immerse myself and contribute to it. Everything I saw about the way you administrated it impressed me, especially with how few people you often had to work with and still keep it primed.

Tarkuul portal is open for any and all. The old evil-alginment portal key was removed a long time ago. For the time being, the lectures will be held in the Tower of the Damned, until the other Tower, which will pretty much be specialized for this purpose, is finished. I've always wanted to create something akin to Mordenkainen's Circle of Eight at the Triumvir to fill the neutral void, to me there's no better place to put it imo. Unfortunately, my late-night timezone prevents much organization and recruitment (not to mention most of Amia's event fun happens during the other half of the day).

Raaz would be interested in giving a lecture on astronomy and perhaps on Orcish Legends/Ancient History of the Orogs, They could even be combined as I have an idea for tying his interest in astronomy to an old legend he was told by his grandfather that involved certain falling stones and how the orogs were first driven underground. I can discuss the details with you if you want to pm me.
