So what's the reasoning behind wanting longer times between reset? I was under the impression that this creates more lag as time goes on, and the server is less stable. Apart from 'resets break immersion', I can't see an upside.

Probably cut down on boss runners or something silly. Six hours would be nice.

You seem to be saying that like "resets break immersion" isn't an especially good reason, though. I think it's a pretty great reason to avoid them, as much as possible.

Not when it makes the server all loopy.

And, seriously, if resets break your immersion ... >_>

Baldurs Gate had a transition message in it saying something along the lines of;

"your character may not need to eat and sleep, but remember YOU do!"

Resets are great for suddenling realising it's 4am in the morning and you've got work in 2 hours. :D

Nah, it's more that a reset can be anticipated. Crashes aren't. There are so many more things that break immersion on a more fundamental scale, e.g. the amount of unnecessary OOC spammed in the talk channel.

I'd be all for this if there were less things depending upon resets to be refreshed, including the job system, bosses, once/reset events/items/quests in game and general server stability. At the moment I'm more wanting to understand why it was changed, and if crashes/etc had been overlooked in this decision?

Your mentor in Dungeon Keeper 2 would hint at and later demand that you to go to bed if your system clock hit 1am, 2am, or 3am.

"It is the Witching Hour. Curses are half price."
*sleepily* "Surely even dungeon keepers must retire to a lair of some description..." *yawns*
"Hello? Are you still there? The imps were about to lock up."
"Your nocturnal perseverance has earned you a hidden gaming tip: GO TO BED."
"You know that low, broad, downy-soft item of furniture in the next room? It has the power to kill fatigue and restore vitality."
"You'll go blind, you know."

Hah, I remember that, it's from Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. That was a great game.

Resets also serve as a good means to boot those long-duration AFKers and people who fall asleep at the keyboard from taking up server space.

The series of crashes that occurred had more to do with someone fiddling with an update then the reset timer. The server could probably run for weeks before it runs out of memory and self-dies from exhaustion.
