I couldn't find a more proper place to put this, but I need some help with my diety. I'm told I have to find an Idol to get my diety, since I'm over lvl 10. However I'm also told that the statue of Tempus or whatever is inaccesible. So what am I supposed to do?

While this is the ideal solution and a good response to OP's question; I doubt he can make much use of it if he wants to play his character NOW.

If you want to play your cleric right now you should contact a DM. You can see if they are online in the upper left corner.

I've noticed some weird things as concerns this topic. I got the message trying to choose a diety on Soilbrood that, being past level 10, I needed a DM to swap. Thing is, I don't think I ever had a diety. I don't remember choosing one, and I used to get some sort of message like "the gods hate the faithless" or something like that, when I tried to pray. Just trying praying now, and nothing happens. So, not sure if I have a diety listed on the sheet somewhere I can't see, or if I'm godless, or if that part of the system is in transition, or what is going on really. I know praying used to work for non-clerics, but it doesn't seem to now.

Just checked, and you do have one listed as of about a month ago apparently. But yes, if you aren't a divine class just ask away for a deity swap for a DM. If you are a cleric, however, we generally require some IC reasoning/RP for the faith swap (and a grace period of falling) unless it's something picked up later in the characters life/leveling period

Characters of lvl 10 or lower can change their deities IG by praying at an idol. Anything above 10th requires RP and a request. Being 'godless' is a choice and applies as if you chose a specific deity.

A wise man once said "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice."

Nah I picked a deity at 30 with my Faithless. This was a couple months ago though.

Can we stop this nonsense and realize this is a brand new player to Amia who wasn't quite aware and cut them some slack instead of saying this:

Quote:
we generally require some IC reasoning/RP for the faith swap (and a grace period of falling) unless it's something picked up later in the characters life/leveling period

And this:

He didn't choose to be godless. He chose to play with the belief that he would very soon find the magic idol in game - which is not there because of a glitch. This is not the player's fault. And before someone says "Well he should know he could have chosen on creation" keep in mind when you were a brand new player and maybe didn't get all the little details right the first time. I can vouch for his rp. He plays a badass Tempurian - one of the best I've seen.

Nobody is being accusatory or saying they can't have a deity fix. People are providing all information they think might be relevant. Don't jump to conclusions Mach.

Why not implement the deity book in the Domaintenance room? From there a PC can select any of Amia's deities without having to go through the hassle of waiting for a DM. Maybe impart a restriction on how many times you can change your deity so you don't just go through selecting a new god every few hours.

If you quote someone Mach then quote all of it instead half of it and then complaining about being unhelpfull while Rigela gave a clear answer.

I daresay the character isn't a divine caster since that would have meant no spells which likely would have caused this issue to be raised before reaching lv 11.

Nerphirlim, ask a DM if you see one ingame and we can fix this for you. I'll be on this evening (euro time) so if you're on poke me in the DM channel and then I'll fill in your deity field.

This should have been done from the beginning. Adding deity idols in game is problematic for IC reasons, since it implies that there is an actual representation of the church on Amia. Which really shouldn't happen for more than a dozen or so deities on such a small geographical area. PCs, on the other hand, come from other regions where other deities are known and worshiped, and have reason to have patrons that aren't popular locally.

Well you can always pick the deity when you are creating your character, right? Just type the name into deity field.

New players don't necessarily know they can do that, otherwise there wouldn't be any requests like the one OP made.

I was more speaking in contrast to IA's post about idols. That they are not really very "handy". Personally I am not a big fan of them as well.

Not to mention that some are extremely hard/impossible to access, as said.

Yes but deities added to the system automatically get an idol in game, which is the issue. There wouldn't be that many shrines on an island of Amia's size (or the other areas), and an idol would fall into disrepair if it wasn't tended regularly. Moreover, not every church even builds idols for their god.

This is not a huge problem and it's a little bit late to redo everything, but it really would have been better if we didn't need some awkward IC excuse for every idol that magically appears in game. Would have been nice if they were primarily added to an Entry maintenance room.

I've never really understood the concept of only having one idol of one god at any time. Surely there should be shrines and temples all over the place, even small ones in peoples homes that would suffice as worship to whatever gods the thousands of citizens of Amia would choose to worship? I can't believe that there is a valid reason for any idol to be only accessible to one specific faction or people in the server.

Not to mention people in faerun worship SEVERAL deities at once: even clerics.

I think this topic has served its purpose now. TC, ask for some assistance IG from any DM, while the idol is out of commission.
