I was wondering how one checks how much time is left on their rental; I don't want to let mine run out, but on the other hand, I don't want to pay when there's still three days left.

There's no in-game way to tell, you just have to keep track of it yourself.

When you first open your house after any reset, it will tell you how many hours you have left. I think there might be another way, but that's the easiest. Just look at the combat/server log stuff.

After reset? Okay, I'll have to keep my eyes open then. Thank you.

I usually rent the houses on a monthly basis so I keep track of the date I first rented it in the IG journal. When its been a month (27-30 days can't remember how long it says) I just re-rent it.

28 days is 1 month for rentals, 7 days for a week.
25k / 50k / 100k for weekly
125k / 250k / 500k for monthly (I think - additional 25% per week cost for the convenience)

Minor complaint, but I always fancied the idea of having it so that I could purchase multiple houses and rent them out to prospective tenants. Except I would collect first month's rent and a security deposit up front, use the scribe job to create a lease, struggle against impossible odds to meet the Ministry of Health and Public Welfare's habitability codes, so of course I don't, and the next thing you know you're dealing with bed bugs and fire hazards and a kitchen stove that doesn't work and you try to call me to fix your A/C but I spend my nights drinking myself to death at the Long & Short because all this income was supposed to pay that bitch's alimony but when I have over half my tenants religiously late on the rent and I'm paying hand over fist for multiple mortgages and it isn't until the doctor tells me my liver is failing and my daughter's fifteen and pregnant by a half-orc that you find me hanging from a noose in your bathroom with my pants around my ankles and then some other total bastard buys the property and mass evicts everyone and then you're out on the street again until you go kill a bunch of goblins to earn the first month and security on a new apartment...

Sad, but after reading that post, I found myself reflexively wanting to click on the "Like" button.

Until inevitably a single berk owns all the houses, and then either dies, quits, loses their PC, or is an arse. Then problems occur.

Yes. Or even, having the housing system be a universally useful system at all. I had rented a house one time just keep it open as a bar in West Cordor for about a year. It was a great idea! Trying to get more PCs on board to do like-usefulness and make plot terms is where it got troublesome. I wanted us to own all the houses in West Cordor at the time so that we had something of a productive syndicate. It too was working for a little while, but that fell apart for one reason or another. Sigh. One just cannot have their cake and eat it too.
