This question is for the Dm's. Does donating gold to Church's, Cities, and NPC's carry any weight, prestige ect... in your eyes when enter acting with our Chars? Can donating gold actually help improve and build up a town or city? One of my chars has donated to a church before and donated gold to rebuild burnt down buildings. I was curious as to how Dm's view this through there eyes.

Rashad has been donating his weight in gold to Waukeen for a bit now and her "temple" still looks pretty shabby. Do donations even get tracked at all by the system?

(No tells for Rashad while I'm playing other characters please.)
Thanks Rash! I was hoping for a response from at least one DM by now, Soooooo i open the question up to former Dm's, and any players who have donated gold in the past and whats your experience and do you think it made a impact or influence? I have heard about how there was no gold cap when selling items way back in the day to NPC Merchants and there are some old school chars with 100 Milly stacks of gold. My Merchant Char is barely a year old RL, and to the contrary to the populace my Merchant is not a Boss Hunter, a horrible dice roller, all wares she has is from straight buying, selling and trading. Hours upon hours i have spent in a Stall selling stuff. She's a hustler who scraped and clawed to get what she has. Like the old saying, money talks and bullshit walks. Cash rules everything around me, cream get the money dolla dolla bills ya! Sorry the Wu-Tang came forth. 8D I know every Dm has there way's, but is there at least a common ground on how this is viewed and handled?

It can be if the RP goes along with it, yes. As in if your character influnces what it is meant to be for.
If not... it is up to the temple and they may use it to impove their own... but depending on th deity it may also be used to help the poor, go on crusades or whatever. Some may even just hoard it.

I find it very sad only one Dm has expressed there feelings on this subject. I thank you for your courage.

Amarice seemed to have aptly summarized our stance on gold donations. I didn't see a reason to need to +1 her posts, but you can consider this me doing that if you'd like.
I assumed there would be different out looks depending on the DM. Wished to hear from more than one.

From my point of view DMs have all ways attempted to avoid making a solid value of gold to avoid amia player currency from throwing everything into a realm of crazy, like setting prices of what the church/city...ect does with gold to avoid it being used unintentionally against them.((in a round about way))
Such as DM saying 10 gold feeds a person for a day.... then next day I go and drop 2mil in the Mill donation box and claim I feed the population of the town for a year or so.
Its just one of the sad facts of to much gold floating around and how easy it is to get.

What Cory says is true but only due to the "amount of money" floating around.
I pick up your example.
Technically 10 gold per day feeds 1 person per day. 2 million gold are donated.
Now (and this is why I said it also depends on the circumstances and RP) the question is
1. Who has access to the gold. 2. What does that person decide to do with the gold. 3. If he wants to buy food/wood/clothes etc. is there even enough ressource?
2 million can feed many if the ressources are available. If not even 10 million won't feed anyone (unless you're a dragon and can eat gold and gems).
Sooo... there is no easy answer to this aside of the mentioned "it can, but is standing in context of RP"!

I got the impression (somewhere, I don't know) that the system doesn't track donations unless it's specifically set up (e.g. a faction chest) - is this right, or do all donation plates record the amounts and/or names of the givers?
My cleric character usually makes routine donations to several deities whenever I log in. I've floated the idea previously that donations to temples could be tracked over some long-ish period (maybe averaged over a week?) and whichever deities are in the top three, say, at any given time, give some minor bonus to their followers - perhaps +1 to saves, +1-3 damage, or +3% to a relevant skill, or +5% to xp, depending on the god. Not enough to unbalance the game, but a little recognition of their followers' contributions. More combat-oriented gods would probably tend to stay on top of the heap since their adherents would grind more and thus have more money to contribute, but at the same time it might work as a money sink for those same people.
Details would be tricky, though. Does anyone who donated get the bonus, no matter how much? Only those who gave more than the average? Only clerics? Anyone who has that deity in their PC's deity field? Some combination of the above?
I realize this is trivial when there's so much else that needs more attention from DMs and Devs, but it's just one of the things I like to think about from time to time.

Glim did start a "reputation index" of some kind behind the scenes for DMs to update with PC actions and their overall effect in the city. I assume that plundering the contents of the donation chest and updating the index accordingly might achieve what you are looking for.

Yeah Amia PCs are kind of like the weimar republic after the war with its Hyperinflation, we just keep printing off money that it can be very hard to place value on it in all cases.

Assume all gold in circulation is actually gold. Cue invasion of planar traders and merchants using portals to deliver materials to Amia instantaneously and cheaper than prime transport. Suddenly the bottom goes out of the market as cities and empires rise and fall!
