Shouldn't this be something for Off Topic?

True, but it's still an OOC game relating to them. General Discussion is more for the stuff relating to the game and otherwise, I was aware. An OOC game using OOC stuff like this would generally fall under Off Topic. Unless I'm totally misunderstanding the point of this.

Don't think it's a big deal either way. The topic follows subforum rules.

It's not a game- it's a discussion with some instructions on how to keep things going in a constructive way and to give posters motivation to post. Would you like to start us off?

(I meant to type "respawn" but my damn phone corrected it.) Well I don't have much familiarity with your characters but I get what you're talking about. A pretty potentially inflammatory topic IF it wasn't volunteer only, haha

Mathus, not Matthew, passionate; a reference to Mathus' antimagic field that makes mages terrified of him I don't really feel comfortable criticizing people openly and on-demand though. I'm not sure I'd like posting a free-for-all on myself and letting others see the critiques personally. I hope if others do it though, they gain valuable insight into themselves or something!

I have a sneaking suspicion you don't get what plot armor means.

Yeah that's not plot armor at all... that's a skill set, its explained with training. Plot armor is stuff that is explained by no reason... like this it would not work at all and they would all be dead.... but they are not because they are the main chars.

Well, it's kind of hard to criticize other players' plot armor without knowing the ins and outs of their characters. Even then, I'd feel more comfortable "criticizing" my own plot armor and simply discussing that of others; how our characters "come back" from situations is something we all have to deal with in certain ways, if we want to keep playing them. While we can critique how different methods might be more or less likely in the game-world, personal critique could be just as helpful.
So PS, your character can basically get out of any locked door situation is what you're saying, right? While that certainly makes for an interesting facet in a character (MacGyver's are always neat), do you think you might be missing out from anything having the character be so adapted to those situations? What sort of locks might they not be able to open, if any? Is the choice to have them get out of most of those sorts of snare character based or is captivity RP something you prefer to avoid as a player?
The whole "do the player above you" thing seems like it gets in the way of having a real discussion about it. That's why I think people were thinking it belonged in OT.

Well yes but I do feel it ruins some of the fun of the story to be able to break n and out of anything and everything. The character at some point found a door they couldn't open and nothing they tried in near 50 ways would work with the help of two others. It came to the point of if they didn't voice up they would have opened that door at the expense of potentially destroying all that lay behind it. Not being able to open something drives and fuels the characters persistence in such situations though and I feel that if they could plot Armour up and just get in and out of anything always it would ruin a bit of fun- but sometimes plot amour is needed say for a baddies in a dm plot to move the story along and not let the story stop suddenly. Dark Immolation wrote: The whole "do the player above you" thing seems like it gets in the way of having a real discussion about it. That's why I think people were thinking it belonged in OT. Perhaps but I initial set it like that to offer a manner of organizing such- another reason may be is that some people may not think something their character's do can be considered 'Plot Armour'. trying to consider how a character behaves after being injured in a battle is a good place to look at but isn't the only thing possible. I wouldn't mind a more open discussion though. Though granted I believe as Frugbugs player mentioned, some folks may not be up for offering their own to open discussion which is fine so I suggest making it clear if one post if they are okay with it for any of their chars

My why is that I have a spiraling issue of egotism mixed with masochism. I want the validation of my creations and the satisfaction of seeing them assailed, that might just be me though.

Dredging this back up because I realized I give PCs plot armor in my events on Caraigh a lot. In a setting like that where people die every day, I do have it on "Serious Mode" for if you screw up badly against my advice ("do you really want to do that?) but some of you have messed up only a little bit and we're overrun, but are thereafter rescued by an NPC so you can live and continue on with your plot armor only lightly scuffed and experience on how to prevent it otherwise.
Others of you who are veterans of my events get really shiny plot armor if you don't fall to mobs or traps, and get an Indiana Jones, James Bond, Space Marine kind of moment of being stalwart, clever, sly, and potentially unstoppable by making it out, even of by the skin of your teeth.
Plot armor is fun. It makes people feel like main characters all the time, as well as integral, heroic and enjoyed by the author (or DM.)

Yes Plot Armour can actually be fun and useful if employed well! Some times As a dm I like to employ something similar where I will kill off an npc and give the players a tough choice in how they chose to continue.

Yeah Caraigh being hardmode is fun but yeah its no walk in the park, unless said park is full of face eating undead that out number you 100 to 1, But it does make the taste of victory all the sweeter.
