I'd suggest setting up a debate thread, about arguments (threadception). If you do, though bear in min what might becom of it, since it's not an explosively controversial topic, hopefully it can remain civil, good?

That would require a significantly larger presence in the forums from the moderator staff than we currently have to assure things stay classy.

If it was a thread dedicated to that you could in theory just give fair warning in the thread title. Make it easy enough for those who might take offense to just entirely avoid it.

If you have two IG accounts is it possible to link both to your player tools? Or does the forum limit you to just one?

I don't know that you can link them in the sense of merging them into one set of data, but you can definitely enter both accounts into the tools and have it display both of them. (I know this because I have done it.)

From the NWN wiki: Quote: Weapon focus in the trident is ineffective in combat. (The bonus to attack is not used.) Is this fixed on Amia, with our changes to the trident?

"Weapon focus:trident" wont give you +1 to your attack roll. However, all the other weapon based feats will work with tridents (weapon of choice, dev crit, epic weapon focus, weapon specialization, ect...) will work on tridents even if you dont have martial weapon proficiencies. At least that's what I have found testing it.

Quote: Tongue of the Sun and Moon (Ex)
A monk of 17th level or higher can speak with any living creature. How far would thing extend? Feasibly anything that's both living and a creature? A few definitions of "creature": anything created, whether animate or inanimate. an animate being. This is one of those abilities that's left really broad stroked and open ended, and I always have trouble RPing. And how would they "speak" to them? Some living creatures have no mouths or ears, would they still be understood? The ability seems to hint that they would. and that it's a two way communication, "speak with".

Communication in this form can be anything from spoken words, gestures, facial expressions, tone of voice, touch, and any other number of things done to convey a message from one being to another. And it is a one-on-one ability. The monk has to concentrate on communicating with one particular creature at a time when using this ability (or at least that was the ruling when I used it with my monk in a DM event years ago!).

I think "speak" is fairly unambiguous, though, right? The monk can "speak" with any living creature. As in, it has to be a spoken, verbal language.

And for creatures that don't have the ability to "speak" under your definition, would that mean using Tongue of the Sun and Moon would simply fail? You know, because then it would be speaking "to", and not speaking "with".
Semantics.

That's how I'd rule it, yes. (And how I have ruled it in PnP games.) If you're saying my definition is too restrictive, I'm saying yours is too permissive. If anything you do with your body with the intent of communicating a language counts as speaking, is writing "speaking"? You're doing it with your hands, and causing a series of symbols to exist which are clearly meant to be interpreted as language, just like sign language. How about if I sit quietly and motionlessly and just use my brain to think really hard in full and complete sentences, anticipating that you're a monk and have this mystical ability to understand whatever I do that has the intent of communication? Does Tongue of Sun and Moon equal telepathy? It's a question of where to draw the line, and the only unambiguous point at which to draw that line is the point where the dictionary leaves us. Speech is speech.

Then by your ruling, a human monk with no speech problems could never use this ability to communicate with another (mute) human through the barrier of regional languages simply because the mute one has no means to vocally reply? Even if said ability made it to where the mute human perfectly understood the monk? And simply because you wouldn't allow facial expression, gestures, and the like to be considered as "speech"? Not a very useful ability at all, if that's so.

Yeah, again, that's how I'd rule it. If I have to pick between it being only situationally useful or being overpowered, I'm more sympathetic to the former.

Eh. I agree that it shouldn't be used to try and, say... give a lecture on the Seven Celestial Virtues (hi Tuomas!) or deliver a treatise on ...well, anything. However, saying relaying general messages or asking simple questions, and getting simple answers (which could be answered by say, a shrug, a nod, or shake of the head, or other similar gesture) just isn't possible through the use of the ability because one side lacks vocal chords is a bit too er... heavy-handed, and not the way it's been dealt with on Amia, in my experiences.

Why do you need a supernatural ability to translate a shrug or a nod or a shake of the head? If you use your mystical monk power to ask me "hey Liz, what's the meaning of life," and I answer with a shrug, why does your power's inability to translate that shrug into the words "heck if I know" lessen the usefulness of the power? Gestures and facial expressions are useful because they translate themselves, basically. You don't need your monk awesomeness to help you with them.
I think you're overestimating the impact of the limits I'm suggesting, in any case. The total number of people I've encountered in my career on Amia who have been unable to speak has been vanishingly small. I'm sure there have been one or two, but I can't recall any just off the top of my head. (Unwilling to speak is a separate issue.) Even with the limits I'm advocating, the ability would still cover like 99.99% of PC to PC interactions.

Ah, but the thing is - language isn't the only thing that changes from region to region. A nod in one part of the world is the equivalent of a shake of the head in another. Body language varies from culture to culture, and in the case of the Forgotten Realms, not just from race to race, but subrace to subrace. Therein lies part of the heart of the ability. It's not just the speech, but the body language and intent behind it that the monk gains the ability to "read".
And it's not always PC to PC interactions. Remember those two words "living creature" in the ability's description? This means it's not just a humanoid-to-humanoid limitation. It's an ability that allows the monk to communicate not just across racial barriers, but those presented by the other "creature" being of an entirely different species.

But again, you're still only talking about a very small minority of interactions. Pretty much everything you're ever going to encounter that's smart enough to communicate in gestures and nods and facial expressions already has the ability to speak some sort of language anyway. I think we may just have to agree to disagree on this one.

BUT YOU'RE WRONG!! >.> j/k. In the end it's up to DM interpretation, and I hung up that hat a while ago. Just leaving one last note, though. Another species' language may not be "language" as we know it. Agree to disagree it is!

How exactly does Massive Criticals work? If I have a rapier with a x3 critical threat range and +1d6 massive criticals, is that +1d6 included in the damage that's multiplied x3, for a total of +3d6? Or is the normal critical damage multiplied x3 and then only one d6 added on to the end total?

My mechanics are a bit rusty, but I'm fairly certain that 1d6 massive criticals does 1d6 damage per critical hit, regardless of threat multiplier.

Hmm. That kind of makes it seem like Massive Criticals isn't really worth very much, unless it's on the order of 2d8 or 2d12 or something. I wonder if my fourth mythal slot on my sword would be better spent on Vampiric Regen or whatever.

It depends on your weapon type and build. For a rapier, scimi, or kukri that will be critting every other hit, it can be meaningful. Vamp regen isn't always reliable in the way it works with flurries, but if you're hitting most of your attacks in a round, you'll trigger it. The choice comes down to if you want to occasionally do a little extra damage, or occasionally(and slightly more reliably) heal for a small amount of damage. That's about as even as it gets.

Hey,
Massive Crit is just something you slap on for that extra 1-2 dmg on average, which stacks with stuff and helps even if you've already maxed STR, have keen, emental dmg, extra physical dmg etc. Also it gives you bragging rights by producing larger numbers when critting.
Vamp regen is much cheaper in terms of mythal slots than regular regen. But it seemed to me like it doesn't trigger on every hit (even with just 3 attacks per round). Still, if you're already sturdy overall, it can help keep you at full health. It does take up an unreplaceable mythal slot on a weapon, though. The best thing about vamp regen is that it stacks perfectly with itself, so get some additional blackstaff casting and you'll have even more fun. (... then shift and get another blackstaff. :)

Hello~
In which folder should the portraits be for me to see them in game? I have a "portrait" file in override but I don't see any of the custom images.
Thanks, LB

They all go in override. If you intend to select it on character creation, they will also need to go in your "portraits" folder (which you'll need to create if there isn't one already in your NWN directory.) If it's someone else's portrait you can't see, likely they haven't had it changed in leto yet.
If it's your portrait, in override, and you requested your portrait switched to this one by leto, there's probably an issue with the filename not matching what was entered in leto.

Yeah, I forgot to mention, Vamp Regen only triggers at max once per round. Or not at all sometimes, if you only hit on a particular flurry. The 4th mythal slot of a regular one-handed weapon is always tricky to fill. Once you get your Ab/Ench, Damage, and Keen, the crafting options left are +1 Stat, Massive Crit, or Vamp. It's not a huge deal either way, but Vamp usually saves you a smidgen on healing, assuming you aren't getting hit too often already.

Yeah, the character I'm pondering it for is an epic dodger with AC approaching 60, so she's not getting touched especially often.
I think maybe the regen is a better option for her.

We've had widgets in the past that change a PC's skin color to recreate warpaint so I assume it would be possible for those things too. I'm not sure if there are already widgets already made for them, though.
If you're not set on having something "portable" as it were, the hairdresser and tattoo artist NPC's can already change things like your hair color and tattoo colors/patterns pretty cheap.

Would be nice if we could add the hair color and tattoo stuff onto the Barber Job or something. Alas. Raua wrote: We used to have a Head changing NPC too, that supposedly still exists and works in the module too... We need to re-implement that. It was only ever accessible with DM assistance anyway, so IMO it's better the way we do it now.

How do you make colored text on signs and stuff via the Writer's Desk?

Is there a particular reason as to why some of the Death Domain undead summons are not immune to death magic...?
My Wheep just died to an implosion. Is this supposed to happen?

Implosion isn't death magic. It's simply imploding stuff. (Death immunity is ignored by it, basically)

I've never actually tested it so I don't know for sure, but it seems like if you put the text you want in the color tag thingy, that should work. I think the color tags are somewhere in the Information category.
