I recently tried to mythal a Tower of Metal greatsword. I have enhancement +4, keen, 1d8 blunt damage and massive crits 1d8 on it. I understood large weapon can have 5 powers on them. I tried putting vampiric regen +2 on it with a greater mythal. The forge said I was over on the powers by 1 and could not. I tried to put +2 strength on it and it said I was over by 2 powers. I then tried putting +1 strength on it with an intermediate. I couldn't do that either according to the forge. Can anybody explain what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for any light you could shed.

The sword is at its maximum, and won't take more mythals. The next step up would be Warforged, which offers more damage. The final step would be a DC Item Request.

With just +4 enhancement, keen, +1d8 blunt, and mass crits you -should- have one more power left. Large weapons can hold 5 and unless something's changed each of those powers is only 1 cost, hrm...

So it would seem large weapons do not hold 5 enchantment then?

They should do, others do at least. Are you certain their are no other properties on it? And that you aren't adding something too powerful on?

Those are all definitely 4 powers total. +1 STR or +2 Vamp Regen should fit, far as I can tell. Unless there's something else on it, like weight reduction (that counts as a power, weirdly).

My mistake then, sorry, I thought it was 5.

There is definitely no weight reduction it actually weighs 45 pounds according to the description. Well it seems all would agree this is a strange situation. Does anyone have any idea what can be done about it? Thanks for taking the time to answer regardless.

... are we all talking about the same item here? A greatsword should only weigh 15 pounds. Are we somehow managing to look at a tower shield or something? Those weigh 45.

The particular Tower of Metal greatsword has a weight of 45. With enhancement +4, keen, 1d8 blunt damage and massive crits 1d8, that is only 4 powers. It should be able to take one more mythal power.

Oh, I've never heard of that one. Is maybe there a hidden power or something on it, that gives it the weight penalty and is counting against its mythallable-ness?

Could be, but penalties aren't supposed to count. It should take 5 beneficial powers.

I bet it's the weight increase property. It's an actual property with the tools t and iirc was added with the haks. It may not have been accounted for in the myths syste.

Hrm, if you bought this from Rashad and aren't pleased, send me a forum mail about it, BB. I'll gladly refund your money/mythals or offer to exchange it for a Greater Magical Weapon greatsword.

Thanks Rashad. Your always looking out for people and it's appreciated. I did indeed purchase the sword from you. I don't know what I'm going to do at this point. Thanks for that option however.

If Tormak's right, and I have no reason to doubt that's the case, there are basically 2 options:
1) Alter the Mythal System to recognize the weight increase property as a penalty, allowing 5 powers to be crafted. 2) Remove the weight increase property from this item module wide.
Well, I guess there's a third option which is to do nothing, but frankly I don't know why. The property is obviously not there for balance purposes and is not beneficial.

I think the fairest option for the immediate moment would be for some DM to just manually subtract his mythal and gp from his inventory and tinker with his sword directly via mysterious DM powers. Maybe also post a notice along the lines of "hey people, please don't try mythalling this particular sword until this is sorted out."

That would be awesome if someone had the time and willingness to help out. I know how busy the DM's are though. I'll keep an eye out and my fingers crossed.
