Any chance of them being allowed to wield large weapons in the foreseeable future, even if at a reduced base damage when wielded by small characters? Likewise, considering small folk cannot currently benefit from the use of staffs and their flurry / unarmed bab bonus, could they have their unarmed damage increased to be on par with medium creatures?

They have other benefits that balance the inability to use large weapons.

They also get a free +1 to hit and +1 ac and are the only races that can get a 10-20x3 weapon with a two handing bonus.

Suppose that's fair, what about the monk scaling damage increase?

fist monks are pretty garbage anyway, but +1 to ac and +1 to ab is worth a ton to a martial class.

it isn't -that- much less damage on a strength monk (avg of 7 on the dmg roll vs avg of 10.5), and the ever popular dex/hin/sd monk already gets a boost to skills from being small, so i'd say it's even there as well.

It's not garbage if you know what you're doing.

This isn't possible without hak changes, at any rate.

I mean, you lose like ten mythal slots due to missing a main hand and an off hand and some glove slots which have to go to plus ab and plus enh, can't wear stuff like plus five dex gloves or disc gloves, and gain basically nothing but plus six for some DR penetration.

Sorry I'm not seeing it.

This is pretty much my primary concern regarding unarmed monks.

I thought it would be fun to run around as like a 32 base str monk and punch shit. But then you need four stats, wis for ac, dex for ac, str for dmg and to hit, and con for hp. Not to mention you are just down so many mythal slots getting that many stats on the gear you can actually use for stats becomes seriously problematic.

It would be nice to have 'magic weapons' for the shorties or alternatively make the magic staff similar to the trident changes. It's kind of unfair that the non-shorties get to use a staff and a shield (or something else in the off-hand slot), whilst the shorties are stuck with a medium sized staff as a two handed thing.

Your overall damage as a fist monk is higher because of your 1d20+2d6+str+weapon specialization (from the belt) and since staff can only be used with strength as it's to hit score it's basically character suicide without a really careful build behind it.

But go ahead and ask any monk/sd/umd how they feel about staves I guess.

I guess damage is a few points higher but you lose so much. And you can't get epic weapon spec either iirc.

And ssrsly if you go str what are you giving up? Ac by not going wis and dex? Hp and fort by not going con? Can you even afford to hit the minimum of +39 to saves to pvp?

Epic Weapon Spec Unarmed comes from a belt for monks.

From what i saw of a staff monk, you give up loads of def, for devastating offense. The char did well enough in a tournament, but it's a hit a run alpha strike type set up. Not ideal for prolonged hits to the face.

It's a solid b tier build imo. Thats not bad at all.

You just need to plan out the build properly for a str staff based monk. I'm maining one rn and I have solid AC, saves and absurd damage.

Yeah that's solid B-tier material. B-tier isn't bad.
