There's no general example. If it's not something spelled out in the pre-approved items thread, we've probably fluctuated on what we approve one way or another with the coming and going of DMs. I would say something "safe" is basically whatever you could craft plus 1 or 2 "powers". And even then it's heavily dependent on what those powers are and whether or not the DMs see them as being particularly powerful at the time. Armor is a bit more complicated than other items once you factor in dex builds vs fullplate and other things. Rings, going off of a recently approved request looks similarly like "whatever you could find or craft plus 'one'."

Making the request will get you a lot more definite answers than speculation will, speaking from experience.

yeah that's why i was asking for examples. i've seen +3 stat +3 uni saves rings out there. didn't know if that was normal.

What exactly counts as 'not living' for this sort of thing?

Is there even a leveling path?

Darkhold.... crypt of burning dead... the rift... manor?

What can I, and what can't I, enchant gloves with?

Can I use master-scout stuff on gloves? Any spells out there that don't work on gloves?

Is the 'Arcane' ACP style able to be bought via DCs or Request on Amia?

If so, what's the cost?

At which point does a skill become fluff on items? Tumble gives you the chance to avoid some damage, esp. if you are a plate-crossclass tumble. Lore gets you to save 100 gp quite a lot, appraise up to 15% discount.

Then, intimidate is mechanical, because of a single epic feat that can potentially be very strong. If you are not fighting against mind-immune, which happens quite a lot. And it already is hella easy to gear intimidate.

So, is there a list of fluff and mechanical skills somewhere?

Fluff: Appraise, Bluff, Craft Armor, Craft Weapon, Lore, Persuade, Ride

Unsure due to lack of effectiveness: Craft Trap, Tumble (only works for AoO)

All the mechanical ones have a some sort of combat use. Due to Barabarian terro-rage, Intimidate is included in this list in case the DC item ever ends up in the hands of someone with the feat to make use of it mechanically and thus make the item stronger then intended.

Heal is, obviously, one of the more useful skills to level up. If your build is KC or you party with a KC, Medicant gives a big heal boost.

If you look in the 'Dream Coins and Requests' tag on the left then at pre-balanced DC items, towards the bottom of that post it lists some of what is considered 'of use' and 'of fluff'... tumble and lore being listed as fluff.

Yes, this is what confuses me. In the end, every single skill (except for ride, because the server is older than ride) has some (maybe very small) mechanical benefit. Persuade and Bluff get a cost reduction to get around in the desert, tumble can essentially block like 10 attacks in just one round, lore and the craft feats save you (potentially a lot) money when crafting. Of these, I personally see a bigger problem in tumble than in something like intimidate. Terrirage has a very common, and for a barb very difficult to overcome weakpoint. Mindblank potions.

On the other hand, a Ftr/DwD/KC will likely have 15 tumble, and wearing a full plate and tower shield. Now, if he gets 20 points in tumble, he goes from "if he moves he likely will get hit by an AoO" to "is immune to AoO" which is just as strong as a feat (spring attack).

I'm mainly just asking where the line is, since some requests are based on the class composition of the characters and some aren't. Where is the line drawn?

only thing i know for certain is that dark fire and flame weapon work
id assume gmw would work but i never had a reason to try it
i doubt blackstaff or blade thirst are applied
was years ago when i checked, so it may have changed, but none of the paladin buffs work, so no holy sword/d clang/bless weapon
never had a master scout so i wouldnt be able to answer

Let's assume you are a Druid/Shifter who will eventually make use of Undead shape. Let's also assume you are evil and have only taken 5 levels of Druid. Can you continue to use your druid abilities, what few there are, until you take the Undead Shape feat, at which point you are assumed to have walked away from your oaths?

You got Shield proficiency from your Druid levels not your Shifter levels. Can you use a shield?

Can you cast Druid spells while you are still gaining Druid levels 1-5?

Can you cast Druid spells until you take the Undead Shape feat?

You took Extend Spell feat at level 3 based on having a Druidic Spellbook, can you use Extend Spell for a third class taken later?

Can you read Summon Scrolls until you take the feat? What about after?

You got Spellcraft from your Druid Levels, can you use the Mythal system after taking the Undead Shape feat?

Is it just spells and the companion you lose or the feats gained as well?

I guess the bottom line is - Can you be a former Druid who walked away from their oaths once they took Undead Shape?

Sorry for all the questions, this confuses me.

pretty sure it just stops you from using spells

but ive been told so many times that "undead shape doesn't count" or "undead shape isn't a real undead" that i don't even think taking the shape counts as breaking the oath anymore.

pm amarice. shes the expert.

I believe in the past it's been mentioned that, so long as you only take 5 levels of druid and then go into shifter, you don't actually count as a druid. Though, generally also means that you can't cast those druid spells especially if you take shapes that go against druids as a whole (like Undead Shape in this case).

Though, for the sake of taking more levels of druid than that, you no longer can call yourself just a Shifter, but are in actuality a Druid with Shifter abilities. But taking something like Undead Shape in those cases does generally mean falling and losing any and all druid abilities and spells.

I could be mistaken, but this has been as I've understood it during my time on Amia.

I'm gonna suggest everyone goes to the frozen hand monastery for all of their monk abilities because there is some really cool success and failure state dialogue for the abilities you learn there. Definitely worth seeing.

When I was a DM we decided that it's not a law that has any 'DM oversight' so its more like, if you exploit the resources with a PC around to catch you then you could possibly get in trouble but it wouldn't be supported by NPCs. Kinda like Bendir, where the guards only really care about the inner walls and the PCs dictated the laws outside of the gates at their own discretion.

It'll probably stay that way.

Oh, I see now. As far as was established through RP, the older rules are no longer valid because it was from the pre-Khem-wasteland days when Nes'ek was something else. So it would need a module update to reflect the newer laws that were set in place by the newer iteration of PCs/NPCs there. The newer laws will probably need a fresh review from the current team after the elapsed time between then and now where development was halted, before going into the module! Or whatever they prefer, at this point.

These are player placed job signs and as far as I'm concerned, for those PCs to enforce.

Lets pretend I have 40 constitution. If I shift into a Kobold with 12 Constitution, what does my CON score become and then how does CON affect it?

it counts as a buff and thus can only go to 12 above your new forms value.

Further question: Do any NPCs listen to PCs, and how far does reason allow this?

Can I RP the tavern whench (yes, totally not sexist statement) coming over and bringing me a drink?
Can I tell guards to do something not directly involving other PCs if I lead their faction?
If I'm HoJo, can I tell the Tarkuul guards to bar the gates?
If I'm HoJo, can I tell the guards to kill, burn and pillage Wharftown?

Of course, all of this without DM oversight. For me, I had always thought minor things like first example, but apart from that, and bottled companions, you have not sway over NPCs, no matter how much influence you have.

At least that was always my take on the metagaming NPCs scale, and anything higher will get reported to the DMs. (Unless I'm told now that I took this wrong)

Also, sorry Libris, but HoJo was the best example I could think of.

This is the general rule of thumb I have always followed (and have never been corrected on by any DMs):
robbi320 wrote:

Yes, minor things like this is just flavor things. Otherwise, you would have to fetch your own food and drink! What kind of tavern is this?!

robbi320 wrote:

Yes, if you are in a position of power (like Hector is leader of the Defenders). However a good idea is to PM a DM with any instructions being sent out. That is what I always did with the Nec'perya guards.

robbi320 wrote:

If you want it done IG right then, pretty sure you need a DM otherwise the gates can't actually be locked. Deal with it PC to PC then (but in the case of attacking Tarkuul they would need a DM anyways, lol).

robbi320 wrote:

That would have to go through a DM for sure, because it would need to be planned and the troops mobilized.

Depends on your position. Not every PC automatically has all rights and powers. Even when it comes to factions there might be some PCs who can do that and others who can't. This isn't a question that can't be answered since the situation varies between areas and PCs.

Its why i never tell an npc to interact with a pc unless a dm is on.

There's no way for them to verify if it's 'legal' or not.

Yeah. That's why barring dm intervention unless you can see the NPCs do it in game it's not really happening.

That's how I look at it anyway.
