Alright, so, it's been a long while, approximately five or six months since I've legitimately logged in to Amia. I didn't like the way things were being done or being handled, but with a few upper positions being moved and a few other changes other than those, I'm considering returning to Amia. However, I'd like to inquire on how we're handling the Spellplague. I saw a post earlier last year about spellfire becoming blue. Tarsakh (April) 29th of 1385, the Year of Blue Fire, a catastrophy shall occur within Toril.

How do the DMs plan to handle this? Without giving too much away, what shall become of mage characters? These changes are to be manifested (for the most part) until 1395, and that's ten years.

I'd love to hear about about this.

It is really simple. It won't happen. Faerunian events stopped in our timeline at the year 1373 DR.

...Huh? Okay, so you build up forum RP for it (it is the year of Blue Fire, and Blue Fire is the sign of the Spellplague. Blue Fire has occurred in the forums.) but you won't actually go through with it? That's insanity, and not even the kind I'm looking for from Cyric or Shar. Nevermind, I guess?

Shouldn't have bothered, frankly.

Spellfire's always been blue or blue-white. That's not some ominous change about the Spellplague. The spellplague has been stated to not be happening on Amia since 2006, when 4th edition was released.

The year was named the Year of Blue fire because of the Spellplague - it's how it manifested in the Realms because of her death. It wasn't a sign or omen of the Spellplague, it was how it appeared. If the Spellplague had never happened, the year would likely hae been called something different.

That was our RP explanation for the spell changes that we implemented in the past year.

To boot, sorcerors have always been stated as being able to manifest minor appearance changes in their spells, due to how their magic manifests, unlike wizards who are using exacting formula and generally get the exact same results every time.

Eh, not really true. Wizards could change various effects of their spells since 1rst ed or so. It's been mentioned many times in Greyhawk particularly that various members of the Circle of Eight had things suited to them, Otto particularly had yodelling ice storms, fireballs of blue or green, whistling magic missiles and the like.

In 2nd ed, it was greatly expanded upon in both the Wizard's Complete Handbook and Dragon King's Hardcover that wizards can tailor their own individual effects to casting, giving each spell specific choices as to visuals, smells, feelings and even greater effects for the higher level spells (crazy stuff like every living person in line of sight looking ethereal).

Whether or not any of it made it into a 3rd ed book update somewhere, I dunno (Gods know there's a ridiculous number of 3rd ed splatbooks to comb through...), but I don't see why anything would change in the multiverse.

We cant have the Spellplague because with Beldor here, it goes one of two ways. Neither are pretty.

In seriousness, the Spellplague doesnt happen on Amia for the simple reason that the Spellplague only exists in the first place to railroad 3rd Edition Forgotten Realms into WoW: Paper Adventure 4th Edition D&D. They needed to get rid of most of the gods, change the physical geography and cosmology of the game world, and fundamentally change how magic operates. In FR that means Mystra must die for yet another time, because she exists solely to explain changes in the game mechanics at this point in the setting. But it's forced because the number of firewalls that should have prevented it ever happening(seven sisters and Elminster, namely).

We're not being robbed of some story that must happen in the Realms. We're being spared a story that is completey irrelevant to our setting. The only reason for it to happen is if we were also switching to a 4th edition gameworld, which we have neither reason nor resources to do. Our spell changes are something largely their own thing. Like our cleric domain changes a few years back, that story is there to explain our own changes as a server in the setting, not mimic anything in particular from editions we don't use.
