Because: OOC off limits =/ Illegal to do on Amia. It's part of a story.
DM's won't punish you for going there, but a few CHARACTERS will throw a hissy fit.

that conflicts with what i was told ig by a dm. the fact you don't know (or perhaps you do know and the DM I talked to was wrong) highlights one of the issues here with forbidden stuff existing, some things being against the rules, and the DM's either not telling people what the rules are and/or being internally inconsistent with what they allow.
so it's open now, again, unlocked by a dev when it was blocked off before with no transitions
so can we go there now? is it allowed?

Well, my information may be dated, but, when I played the Kapten of the Wiltun peeps (a year ago, maybe more), it was an IC thing. Perhaps that changed, I don't know. If so, I have never heard anything about it.
Would love to hear from a DM on this.

I have a character that's been with Caraigh for several years, and the only time Blackmoor Keep was forbidden to enter, there was no transition to enter. Since it was re-opened (a few years ago) when BoB was DM, I haven't heard that the Keep was forbidden to enter, and there's been no OOC ruling made public about it by any other DM. There are certainly characters who don't want people going in there, but that's IC.
And That Guy? It's been waaay over a year since Tristen was Kapten. lol

I believe at the moment it's only used for DM plot hence why it got updated anyway. The last I heard was if you go in there IC your character would go insane...
So, I don't know lol

So, I don't know lol There's an ig mechanic for that in these places. It goes in your combat log.

Is it true that trident feats just don't work?
So if I make a demon flesh golem chara the weapon focus trident stuff would do me no good?

I think only the nornal weapon focus win't work. I think the rest of the feats work though. (EWF, WS, EWS, impcrit, overcrit, devcrit all work, AFAIK)

I made a trident weaponmaster. I can attest to dev crit working just fine. Not sure about the others, though. Never really paid attention to it (build sucked anyway).

i don't really want to level a character to epic just to find the un-changeable weapon of the demonflesh golem doesn't benefit from the trident feats.
any chance this could be tested? like could a dm allow or make a test shifter, spawn them with a trident, and level it to 30 to test?

any chance this could be tested? like could a dm allow or make a test shifter, spawn them with a trident, and level it to 30 to test? To answer your question: All feats work with the Trident EXCEPT Weapon Focus Trident. This is a bug present in the default game and was never fixed. When talking to DM's about it they stated on Amia Tridents get a little extra damage to compensate. How this works in relation to the golem or how much damage is unknown to me at this time. There IS a fix for the Weapon Focus Trident feat available but it requires the use of NWNX and I don't know if Amia uses NWNX. As for if a solution can be implemented without NWNX to fix Weapon Focus Trident from my understanding the answer is no, but I am trying to figure one out anyway. Very slow going as I have no real helpful assistance with learning this stuff.

Are the PC notice board things IG an excuse to have a note on the forums in Kohlingen? I mean, could you have a courier hang a notice in Kohl, or is it still only 'no posting where you are not allowed, unless you have permission by a DM'?

2012 there was a 10 year anniversary event in the NWN community. The 15th year is coming up! Last time in the World Walker Celebration, I think Amia was not part of it. http://nwpad.weebly.com/the-winners.htmlAs you notice, I came second in this event. I went to a lot of servers and saw what they had to offer, just for a short notice often but I enjoyed it. I also was to have an event of my own. Which never happended on Prisoners of the Mist which I was active at, at that time. I got offered to hold it on other servers but at the time I was a regular there. Non the less! I think Amia should hop on this or have the DMs and Admins talk with these folks and see if you can be part of this thing somehow or make something of your own. We could do with some positive PR with how dwindling I seen the number of players been of late. I hear it is a uni test period but still. Why not? I write here but maybe this deserve a t hread of its own. I made one in the OOC section but I do not visit it much, last time I checked I had 0 response. What do people think? https://neverwintervault.org/forums/gen ... ation-days

I presume Baldurs Gate II was not bullshiting about Amn either, but that is of course not about spellcasting being a heresy but more like having it under control by a coven of Wizards like the Cowled. What about enemies of Mystra too? Do they "hate" the arcane?

Well, Shar might not neccessarily like normal Weave users.
The whole 'Magic only under supervision' is actually pretty common, as far as I've noticed. Chultans, I think Calishites as well, a few other places I'm not entirely sure.

I'll have to look into those things. Any recommendations on source books regarding magic and mainly sorcerers and different ways they can have gotten there powers? Both normal weave and shadow weave.

Carvelan wrote: Is there any religion or cult in FR that look at arcane spellcasting as heresy? It's hard find an area or culture in FR that outright forbids all arcane magic; it's so interwoven into the history of the setting, even the people that hate it realize its usefulness when properly directed. Try to maintain a nation-state with completely mundane weaponry and means in modern Toril. You won't last long. Even cultures that largely use divine magic will still have a few arcane-minded folk to provide what they need, in some form or another. But as I said and others have said so far, there are many cultures that have various sanctions, social mores, and rules for magic users. The Chultans/Tabaxi are one group that closely monitor and decide who can practice arcane magic. The Ruathymi prefer arcane magic to be used via artifice, seeing it as a safer way to harness the power. In Rashemen, you have a magocracy that is limited to only closely-watched females, while arcane-talented males must either leave or live in hiding upon pain of death. Halruaa also closely watches their arcane spell casters(which is a sizable portion of their populace compared to other nations), having a specifically tasked group to keep their mages in check. Dwarven culture is often stereotyped as distrusting wizardry/sorcerery, but I believe that has changed since the Thunder Blessing. There are still many more divine magic users and runecasters than wizards and sorcerers in their ranks more than likely. If you wanted to make a character who saw all arcane magic as heresy, there are probably a few groups that would support that view(that character would still likely be considered "fringe" there, however). Check out the Cult of the Shattered Peak. They're thoroughly against mages ever returning to the heights of the Netherese age, and I could see a member outright thinking arcane magic was an affront to the gods. They expressly forbid arcane spellcasters among their group, but do use non-divine magic themselves. A rogue Jordain Vizier, having lived among wizards and seen first hand their hubris might strike out on his own, waging a personal war against the arcanists he used to serve. If the meme wasn't enough of an indication, I like the idea of arcane being considered heresy(if only as a foil to my main PC). I had an idea for a Mystran sect that would seek to regulate arcane magic wherever they went, and yes, some of those members might feel any use of it was a bad idea. As I theorized, the most likely group that could feasibly do without arcane magic would be a group of Mystran clerics who, because of Mystra's domains, have a lot of the same powers and functions of a Wizard in a community. Given how(in their view) all magic is regulated by Mystra, and she herself can give those same arcane spells to her faithful if she wants, there really is no reason to allow people to attain that power on their own, who may be unworthy to wield it or have bad and unchecked intentions in using it.

Carvelan wrote: I'll have to look into those things. Any recommendations on source books regarding magic and mainly sorcerers and different ways they can have gotten there powers? Both normal weave and shadow weave. 3rd edition is not your friend when it comes to fluff for Sorcerers. You have a few dragon-flavored feats they can take, I think a few pacts, but on the whole, the most it says is that sorcery can stem from any number of magical creatures being in a PC's family tree. It's not very well-represented in how the class plays, however. For something a bit more informative, many people including myself look to Pathfinder. It's a different setting, but it goes a bit further in explaining how sorcerers can get their powers and represents that in-game via different bloodlines. These "bloodlines" are not all genetic, however. While most of them are from some sort of magical creature heritage, a lot of them stem from circumstance, prophecy, fate, or pacts made by ancestors of the PC. So, the paths to being a sorcerer are many, and you can decide for yourself any number of stories or backgrounds that would lead to a PC being one. If you're looking for an IC source, a *ahem* certain PC did a census and study of Sorcery many years ago. It's an IC work, so it's undoubtedly biased and laden with his own particular views, but it does at least offer a window into what sort of bloodlines people have claimed on Amia as well as the IC rationale for Sorcerers appearing and operating as they do in NWN. Now. Sorcerers and the Shadow Weave are a particular thing. Sorcerers can come to use the Shadow Weave, like any arcane spellcaster via the Shadow Weave Magic feat, which requires you to either lose a portion of your sanity(Wisdom loss), take Shar as your patron, or have your patron deity strike up a deal with Shar somehow. That's all to say, by the bare rules, I don't believe a sorcerer can be born using the Shadow Weave; they'd have to convert at a later point in life. To my knowledge, there aren't any creatures that naturally use the Shadow Weave rather than the regular Weave, so it being handed down by a bloodline seems unlikely. Perhaps it could be reasoned, however, that Shar would "gift" someone with Shadow Weave Sorcerery, either as result of a pact or by her own fickle whim, in which case perhaps you could start off as a Sorcerer using the Shadow Weave. I could certainly see any Shadowvar sorcerer being born using the Shadow Weave, due to Thultanthar's intrinsic tie to Shar and the Shadow Weave. In any case, you'd need to request using the Shadow Weave as a PC on Amia, thus you'd need to request it at the time of the PC's creation, if you want them to have always used the Shadow Weave in their backstory.

I seem to remember seeing something one time about Character Journals able to be used IC? Perhaps I misunderstood, but I thought the idea was: If you put it on the forum, expect it to be used, thus, eliminating metagaming, since... you understand that it can be used.
Anyone on the team have a statement on this? I can't seem to find what I read.

So... who are the DM's now? This page: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=55945Seems outdated. Amarice-Elaraliel msheeler- mostly a Dev, right? PaladinOfSune - not all that active ingame anymore, but settles some disputes, unless I'm mistaken? Tarnus Lutra So.... realistically, we have three DM's? Not judging, just curious!

Maverick is a DM, like msheeler concentrating on Dev work. I assume Disco has DM status, but like Ao, Lord of DMs lol Nakomis Wolfen is a DM again, too.

You can sort the member list for rank. If you press rank twice, it showns it sorted by ranks. According to that, (And I'm not counting purple names, because those are weird) the DMs focusing on DMing are: Amarice, Lutra, Tarnus and Nakomis Wolfen. (PaladinOfSune, no idea what is with him) Seriously though, I think everyone would appreciate if there was a clear distinction between DMs and Devs, and DMs that also do Dev-work. Or rather, a list of everyone you should talk to for DM stuff. 4 active DMs, if you aren't counting the temporary leave Amarice, Lutra and Tarnus are taking. Edit: Found the quote for purples: Amarice-Elaraliel wrote: Terra isn't, no.
The current devs/admin that hold a double position (albeit more focused on dev) are:
Maverick Msheeler PaladinOfSune
(and Disco is still the Amia-Overlord. But just like Ao, he keeps his existance a mysterie and doesn't grant divine blessings. He can make the world burn though)

How far away from the base form can I go with reskins? Can I reskin a corporeal undead to incorporeal? Can I change the air ele EMD to fire? A EDK to fire ele? (especially the red one, but could I do that for any?) I mean, especially commies request has made me wonder this: How far may I go away from the original form, both in power, and in theme? Also, would it be possible to swap dragon summons? I mean, say, I wanted to request a... blizzard spectre, maybe. Could I do that with the Red EDK? DO I have to be good to do that? Could I have the summons swapped? (I mean, it's not like they are balanced around actual power anymore, afaik all three are the same strength)

robbi320 wrote: How far away from the base form can I go with reskins? Can I reskin a corporeal undead to incorporeal? This has been done before. Undead are pretty interchangeable. Corporeality and Incorporealality don't usually make much difference in NWN, as compared to P&P. All it really does is give you concealment and let you move through other creatures. If you change a corporeal summon to an incorporeal appearance it won't have those benefits anyway( incorporeal traits have to be set when you create the creature and a reskin doesn't change the base creature blueprint to my knowledge). So as long as it is still some form of undead, you're generally good to go. Quote: Can I change the air ele EMD to fire? As I understand it, the Air elemental was made pretty neutral and resistant to a lot of elements for the express purpose that when it's reskinned to another elemental it still "works." You could likely do this. I don't know if the elemental does any elemental damage on hit, so it might be a bit strange when a living pillar of fire hits your enemies and they don't take any fire damage. Quote: Could I do that with the Red EDK? In a pre-Mummy Dust change Amia, you could reskin dragons to just about anything(treants, slaad, giant eagles, shadow lords). Now that we have other fitting options through EMD, probably not. No reason to have a non-dragon summon with all the dragon vulnerabilities and abilities when you can choose an Elemental-based one. Even if Air Elemental doesn't have all the specific quirks of a Fire Elemental(fire damage onhit, cold vulnerability, etc) it still has all the appropriate elemental traits, including being affected by anti-elemental properties and Turn Elemental stuff.

I feel kind of stupid asking this, but I'm having problems with a PnP spell. How does Undetectable Alignment work? Especially considering the saving throw. Is the saving throw to casting the spell on an object, or to actually detecting the aligment through the spell?

99% sure it only applies if the object in question is able to resist spells in some way or another, or has a will modifier. If not it should work just fine without a save beeing needed at all, same as some buffs have will saves on them just in case someone or something would want to try and resist them.

That's not in the drops. Some DM has hand picked it the way it is.
So no, +5 AC +3 stat +8 (this one also is +6 btw) is not the "new standard"

so random gear then, IS allowed to be better then normal drops or request gear? or request gear can be at the level of random drops?
such as a +5 ac, +3 con, +6 disc neck?

Not really, no. As said this item was selected by hand from the chest and picked in exactly that combination.
It does not drop on its own.

Would I be allowed to request exactly that amulet?

I suppose so. The combination is not overly fortunate.
In the end however, sometimes bad decisions are made in both DC requests aswell as plot items. So the mere existence of an item is never a guarantee it would be approved (again) especially in the light of things changing. I especially remember an item for example that would not be approved again for sure with the spell school changes.

It's not con but wisdom. The con was only mentioned in commies example.

Is permafreedom ever getting the axe or can I safely build and request DC items to the current meta? I have been intentionally not wearing freedom gear for a year now waiting for permafreedom to go and it's still there.

As far as I know, it's still up in the air. I don't know what they plan to do about it. Replacing it with castings of Freedom doesn't really cut it for me, it's not in the same spirit of it being a passive bonus. And of course permafreedom immunizes a PC from a slew of effects that make certain tactics against them useless with a single item. So something does indeed need to be done.
I'm not sure if it's possible, but my dream fix for it would be that Freedom "dumbs down" the effect, rather than completely nullify it. As in, when a character is affected by Paralyze/Entangle/Slow/Movement Speed Decrease:
Paralyze is converted to Entangle Entangle is converted to Slow Slow is converted to Movement Speed Decrease Movement Speed Decreases are Halved
It would still possible to request Immunity Paralyze/Entangle/Slow/Movement Speed Decrease as individual properties. But Freedom itself, as a single property, only mitigates their effects, not completely nullifies them. It still remains very useful, though. If you would be paralyzed, you'll just be entangled and still able to cast, attack, use items, etc. If you'd be entangled, you'll be slowed and can still move around somewhat. And so on and so forth.

Na. Slash it all. Let the meta decide what the new "good" is.
