Yes. Quite honestly, I like the five points, and agree with Gribbo 100% here. I think especially point 2. was something that bothered a lot of players. Many times, you got no answer for a while. Sometimes, a very long while.

And, this is meant honestly, I really like that you actually spoke about some things that bothered you. Personally, I dislike the teams descision that certain stuff is not allowed to be talked about, because some things really need to be said.
I really stand by my point on changes to the server: We won't likely gain much from changing things on a massive scale, like disencouraging evil, or banning powergaming, but small-ish things that players that already are here don't mind, and players that left might think is good, is, IMO, one of the most important things to keep the server going. So, and that is why I was a bit upset in the thread earlier, I think we could very much use the information players that still frequent the forums bring us. They left, but are, for the most part, still interested in the server. Otherwise they wouldn't be lurking here. (At least I wouldn't really see a different reason) So people just complaining won't help. But people like you giving their opinion on what can be improved might be incredibly good for the server.

At least that is what I think. And I know I could learn a bit from my own words, especially on the ground of 'complaining won't help, feedback will'.

And well, if it still bothers you, I would suggest talking to the DMs about your character. I can understand it is a bit frustrating to lose a character, especially about what I've heard about yours (as in, was quite developed, as far as I've noticed, sadly was before my time), but in my opinion, asking about it wouldn't hurt you, but might help a bit. If even to understand the 'why' a bit.

And especially on the staff choices, I can understand you. Especially since I'm pretty sure I know what I'd have done: Not spoken up about it. Personally, yes, I would agree to some more transparancy, but I feel there are a few points that can be metagamed. On the other hand, and this is a completely fictional situation, if you had a team inclined to do that, they could just wave anything through, without any sort of control.

Can you give some examples?

I've had the same sentiment in the past, but it was more tied into having to request anything non-vanilla and essentially having to re-request PRCs at one point. I'm not sure if that counts as "doing things," but for me it definitely fed into the permission-creep I saw happening at the time. Not only do you end up with people feeling like they can't do anything without a DM holding their hand through it, but you clog the request pipes with stuff that isn't that serious and still sits there forever to get a handful of DMs to give you the go-ahead.

Additionally, there's an implicit stigma that goes with requesting things. "Oh, you're asking us to say Yes or No to this. That must mean there ARE reasons to say No to it. Let us proceed to find every reason to say No to it, no matter how simple or insignificant the actual request is." It's not the fault of the DM team. It's human nature. You place two options in front of someone and ask "Which is worse" and they automatically assume one must be worse, forgoing the possible conclusion that they could be equal or only trivially different.

I'm less gun-shy than I was maybe a year or two ago, but my concerns are still the same as ever when it comes to that stuff. I want to trust the DM team and to be trusted. I don't want to feel like my PC(s) histories exist at the whim of the DMs, there to be fiddled with any time it doesn't match the current group-mind of the team. Not when it can change so drastically in the course of a few months. I wouldn't mind PRC tokens. They can help DMs that aren't familiar with certain PCs. I just don't want to feel like I'm being put on trial when I've not actually asked for anything but what I already had. I want to see DMs work with people making requests, rather than simply saying "no" and waiting for the player to come at the idea again, especially if its a newer player. I send a good deal of PMs to newer players when their ideas get shot down, saying "hey, here is something that exists in the setting that is close to what you want. Try using this/look into this idea." Requests can be daunting if you're not a hardheaded lore-nerd like some of us. But helping players through it is pretty simple most of the time.

1: Identify what the player wants. I.E. A House Cannith Artificer from Eberron
2. Identify what fits. I.E. Artificers do exist in Forgotten Realms, with long histories in different cultures.
3: Identify the incongruous parts of the request. I.E. Eberron/House Cannith does not readily exist in our setting.
4. Identify the essence of what they're asking to play/to receive. I.E. An artificer, possibly with nobility backing.
5. Suggest viable, congruous alternatives. I.E. A Ruathymi Court Artificer

I just wish some form of common law was respected. I'm currently attempting to emulate the first skinchanger ever given, the DM's even told me to talk to the PC that got the first ever skinchanger. But now they say nevermind, and they don't do it anymore.

This sort of thing is why people are asking for transparency. At least some degree of it.

Yeah. I sort of don't understand that. What can I reskin my EDK into, if not another dragon type. Yes, one is undead, one isn't, but as soon as we are emulating, we have problems. So where is the problem? I seriously don't understand your case, and would also personally wish that either public requests are public, or all requests are secret. Unless I am missing something, talk happened in PMs. And since AFAIK, what one person requests, another can, in the same way. Which is exactly why build isn't factored into requests. Except it is. I don't understand that.

I mean, could the team maybe establish some ground rules for requests? I mean, a wizard who has EMA took a feat for that, why is he punished for doing that (by having to request +5 AC on armor)? Or the same mage having to request +5 on a weapon. And, and this seems like the weirdest case, cloaks being the universal +5 deflection. I mean, I remmeber the same +5 AC applied to a cloak, when one could have a +5 AC ring, for example, and would be forced to buy +5 AC on a cloak, just because EMA. I mean, does build factor into requests? I've heard the team say an absolute 'no', to the point that intimidate was a mechanical benefit skill, but then executed as a maybe, as with commies weapons, IIRC, that just got that power because he can't keen them himself.

Could the team perhaps try to write down a standard, also what EMA/EDK is allowed to be reskinned into what, and things like that? It seems incredibly random, at some times.

Am I even allowed to reskin my EDK into anything other than one of the standard dragons? Also, for the undead immunities, in commies case, where is the problem? Kilmar's a wizard. Dragon will usually have MB on it. It should be immune to sneaks, because dragons. Less powerful things than a literal undead dragons have a fear aura, especially on this server.
Actually, unless I something got changed (and it did, but unless dragon immunities were changed), the dragon only missing poison, disease and crit immunity. Poison and disease, it's virtually immune anyway, just by the way saves for those work, and crit immunity: Wow. It's slightly less powerful than an undead dragon should be. I literally don't see the problem here, and as an outside observer, it seems incredibly random to just say 'no, not undead dragon'. It still has its frightful presence, and would, as far I see it, only lose breath weapon and TS. And it still would/could have blindsense. And that seems like less emulating than literally making the skele familiar incorporeal, but it still isn't 50% concealed. I mean, really. How far away from the original form are you allowed to emulate?

Not to mention the reskinning was invented to reskin an emd to an undead in a world where emd always summoned an undead.

(redacted)

And despite the community overwhelmingly asking for more events, even long before the poll, it's still silent. It's dead silent. But I see DM's pc side.

What's going on?

Well I am still on a break until after my holiday as said. While I do a bit of casual stuff PC side, until I actually am out of the country in a little over a week.

I would like to point out this is my first break ever since I became a DM 5 years ago. (much to the dismay of of some, it seems)

Meanwhile we have other stuff going on, did you know an Amia resident is literally immortal? Kill them and they stand up instantly due to some custom script voodoo. Happened like six times in a minute. No official word on that has ever come out.

This no longer exists, because the millisecond I found out about it as a DM I made sure it no longer existed by making sure the discussion was not allowed to end until it was so, because that was the most egregious piece of plot-bullshit I had ever seen in my existence of the server, and was made even more so by the fact that somehow, 75% of the DM team at the time did not even know it existed or how it worked, despite it being custom scripted and in the module.

You knew this before you made that post though, which makes you look really disingenuous right now, so I'm pretty peeved you brought it up.

Nobody knows due to a lack of transparency. That was the point.

Your point could have been made without suggesting a situation that was resolved over a year and a half ago still existed, and without insinuating that I let it exist and was part of letting it occur.

You talked about it like it still happened in the present day and framed it in such a way to insult everyone involved, accusing them of covering things up, when much of the remaining DM team, the ones that were around at the time, (i.e. amarice, mostly) where some of the biggest voices against removing it, the second it was found out.

That's disingenuous. You're not stupid. Don't post this way.

As an aside, I'm genuinely curious in the responses for "Amia should be less lore-heavy", because I think that's a really interesting answer and am wondering the rationale behind that answer.

More meant (what a few were complaining about at least) to be less strict about lore and allow more homebrew lore and/or lax in lore than actually easing lore. More allowing more exceptions to stuff.

We do have some pathfinder stuff already, actually. Aswell as some homebrew.

I know a few people were opting for more liberty with non-standard character races. Some on the other hand wanted to remain more close to the books with those.

I wanted to add both options, no matter which side I stand on.

I can understand that on one level, but on another level, a lot of times players have a sort of tunnel vision in their requests. I've learned this by helping others with theirs.

In the DM team's defense, the question of "could this PC exist as anything else" is a great first one to ask. The obvious answer is yes. But you want people thinking about their request to the point where it seems like every choice is necessary. To paraphrase the old quote on perfection, it happens not when there's nothing more to add, but nothing left to take away. If your non-human Red Wizard is only non-human to be a dejected outcast, then allowing you to play one isn't worth re-writing the established lore of Red Wizards only being Humans from Thay. He can be from a poorer class or institution from within Thay and human to be an outcast. If there are ways to get what you want that don't involve doing something very improbable within the setting, they should be sought first.

Same goes for racial stuff. Ideally, ideally, if your request for an Evil Aasimar is being denied, it's not only because Aasimar generally aren't evil in the setting, but that what you've described to the DMs seems like it could exist without stepping over that line. Same with outsider/construct/non-humanoid characters.

Events being more spread out into EU-friendly times (and no, starting at 22:00 GMT is not friendly).

Otherwise - fairer distribution of DCs, better access to extra stuff, more randomly talking NPCs to make this huge world feel alive.

Má pravdu, předsedo!

I mean... he's right! Though to be completely fair, I've noticed more DM activity in GMT friendly hours (1800 +/-)! So... *thumbs up* Keep it up.

Yeah that is a pain. During my time on Amia I mostly played in EU hours but there was no point logging in before 21:00 GMT or even trying to schedule anything for more EU friendly timezones. That's an unfortunate issue but I think we are moving a bit towards the EU friendly times...for those of us who can.

I've recently discussed Amia with my friends, that our experience is, that all major players and therefore all events start at midnight and that is just unbearable. Otherwise Amia would be sort of nice place to settle.

If the situation is getting better, I might start playing here again.

I hope the new changes with EMD make some of the struggles easier when it comes to reskins and having to pick another (more fitting) subtype for your chara.

You're now no longer stuck with one, but can switch between all the option as with the other summons.

A few things answered up front that will likely be asked:

- Yes, Epic Spell School still prolongs duration of the summons and only the summons (EMD) in question. Though the others will still be usable for you, because with 20+ or so caster levels, it will still last long enough.

- Yes, you can reskin each and every one of them, it won't interfere with eachother.

- The alignment-base on the outsider summon still applies.

- If you use a summon you should not use by alignment or dogma, consequences can still be applied if caught (alignment shifts, falls, etc.)

I personally really enjoy this change, allows for a lot more variety with characters, and a lot of possibilities for summon reskins.

Sick!

So like, Kilmar has the nightwave emd, I could also reskin a sirrush and use that sometimes?

When you take the EMD feat and pick your summon, this scroll-like thing appears in your inventory that used to fix that particular summon to your character and is undroppable. Since it's no longer revelant, is it possible to make it droppable so people can throw it out?

Sweet change, btw.

You guys are on the same page

I'd love more bosses. I get tired of fighting the same bosses forever.

Yes, but in terms of priorities we all universally avoided it which I thought was funny.

More bosses would be nice, bur what -I- want most is at least one DM online at ALL times working whoever's on. It's been a lot better with this lately and it rocks!! So, it should be this way even on non-peak times. If there are no DMs active on those times, find the people generating RP who ARE on and make them DMs so they can generate more RP. If people think there will be awesome fun no matter when they log on, they WILL log on.

Lastly, requests should be priority number one for the team. If a player spends his or her hard earned coins and valuable time posting a request for the team's approval, it should have most team member's comments on it within 24 hours and a decision within 48. If everyone did it first and took it seriously it wouldn't take nearly the time it does now, with everyone reconsidering things after days of not thinking about them. Consider the time that people put into requests and get them done immediately.

Just an opinion since it was requested. The activity and energy lately from the team has been amazing!

The big problem, me being from one of the lesser time zones (we all know we are inferior to the gloripus American time zones), is that around noon GMT, a lot of the times, the player count goes to zero. On both servers. I'm not even sure if we have enough active players that -can- play around those times. I mean, the US is sleeping then, Europe is at work. I think then it would be mostly up to Asia and Australia, of which we apparently don't have too many players around. So, 'easiest' would be one of the few players we have from there to DM status, but even that, well, it wouldn't help too much. (But then again, I'm not the most knowledgable with the server and its population, currently)

I think that if there were DMs online then who would give as much attention and work to whoever is on as Lutra, Dicey, Rosary and the other active DMs have been giving, that people would come back from Arelith and other servers to play on Amia again with their preferred characters.

Arelith is at 60+ players every night, people. Is Amia going to die?

Amia is currently seeing a return of a lot of players who left because of a recent resurgence in activity, we're on the upswing but I doubt we'll return to the old days of having 40-50 players on all the time any time soon. I'm happy with the 25+ ish we get now and anyone else who comes by.

Mhm, he's right. Don't push it, let it spread on it's own through the former player base that Amia is back in black and the player count will rise eventually, I'm sure.

25+ already is sweet.

I think if it continues like this it will be stable for a few more years for sure. The Dms pull a big load. Just need to pull in more Dms eventually I think and give the current hard working DM crew a lot of support and understanding so they do not burn out! :)

Even in the old days there were rarely off-peak DMs on. There's an untapped market that is in line with the OP if we have a DM on at all times. Make the Belenoth and Tarkuul people DMs so they can serve those times.

We don't want end up having more DMs than players, mind you.

The DM activity as it is now (at least GMT time) is gorgeous.

Yeah but back in the day NWN was a lot newer and we had game spy up to get random people walking in, the chat room where players from the server would chat about stuff that would draw in people because they would hear what neat stuff was happening before reset, we had a large DM staff, a server so full DMs had to kick AFK people so people could log on as we had tons of people waiting in said chat room till they could get on.

From checking the Arelith server right now, they have 105 people on right now, 53 surface, 51 Cities & Planes and 1 Prehistory ((what ever that is))
I don't know if they just did a better job keeping players over the years or if they are doing that social media stuff, like facebook pages, posting on GoG NWN sections to plug their server, NWN wiki...ect but they must be doing something.

It's really simple.

Amia: Flavor > mechanics. We have so many custom requests and so much DM interaction, it can be quite fun, but it's all geared towards making unique characters and let people feel special, and it requires a lot of DM interaction to do lots of things.

Arelith: Mechanics > flavor. Elections? Scripted in-game. Job system? Mechanically important - you can't survive, literally, without it, and much of the best gear in the game is from the job system itself. Custom requests? Don't really exist except for people sacrificing a level 30 char, and succeeding on a 5% roll afterwards. Leveling? Slower, because when everybody is epic level, nobody is. Faction bases? Scripted in-game. Faction messages? Scripted in-game. Custom quests and events? Not often - make your own quests and get together with players.

I'm sure both dev/DM teams on both servers have issues, and I'm sure Arelith has at least as much OOC drama and crap as we do, if not more. But, they have a different way of playing. Everything relies on the characters. On Amia, a lot of things rely on DM's.

EDIT: Also a lot of people even in today's day and age can't be bothered to find our HAK and download it and put it in the right folder because the average person is garbage with computers, and lazy. "I want to click the install button and then play, anything more is a chore and not worth my time"
