how long are we allowed to wait there?
Sometimes I'll scroll through the list to see who I should select, and if I hop on at the beginning I'll wait till theres like 60 or so IG before I hop in

Be advised that I do this (not for 15 minutes mind you) - scroll through to see who's online, and pick my char accordingly. I have been booted during the process, which I found pretty annoying. I do not think 3-5 minutes is an unreasonable time to decide what char to play; does anyone disagree? 15 probably is.
Don't do it. Simple. You take up slots from people who would like to get ingame.
From now on, if I catch people at it I will be giving out bans. And I just found a way to catch people at it.
Sometimes I go on a lark, and it can take me up to 30 minutes to create a character, as I try to figure out what I wanna do then make sure I spellcheck/grammar check the profile. Or sometimes end up comming up with a different idea and starting from scratch. Or deciding after awhile I haven't been able to come up with something so I.. choose one of my already made ones and log in.

Well, that's true that some people take their time creating their characters and such, but... If there are some dimwits that decide to go to a restaurant for a dinner or watch a football game that lasts an hour before logging (and thus just reserving a slot by hanging out in the character selection screen) I'd say ban them for a week.
Maybe we should start informing the DMs when creating a new character? Or would that be a too hard procedure?

You'll have no trouble getting in once I caught the two more people who hang there.
We had total 5 people hanging now, and 3 of them logged in with a non-level 1 character. It doesn't take half an hour to select a character, and if it takes you should log off.
That's 5 slots out of 75 taken for over half an hour. I am dead serious about this. Don't do it.
Frankly, if the method is block and then kick anyone who logs in after the servers locked, you can just kiss goodbye to Amia. This might serve as a one time warning, but this really has to be the most inefficient way to organise something like this, and at this rate, the playerbase will just get tired of 'improvement measures' such as this.
I've been pretty vocal in my opposition as you've noticed. Why? Well, I have better things to do, than wait for two slimy gits who took it upon themselves to block severslots, to log in, so Nekhy can boot and ban then.

It might be just me, but I don't understand whether Numbers is with or against booting pricks that block slots...

yeah I look to see who is on and see if its worth loging on, but that takes all of 20sec and its not hard for me to pick from my long list of 1 char.
As Herra Tutteri said about informing the DMs when creating a new character, why dont they just make thier character off-line get stats/name..ect all ready then just put it on a sheet of paper so you are just copying it when you log on amia.

Oh, so that's why the server is passworded now?
More control, more rules...
Bleh, I guess I'll stick with my break.

Want me to say it out loud or did you already manage to figure it out?
Let's start the mantra; "Nobody forces you to... You can do something else... This is not your life... The life is out there, not in here..."
I'm sure you get my drift, if not, chill out other some other way. In the games that people PAY to play for month, there are once a day hour breaks or such, the fact that you're not paying for the service you're receiving should be enough for you not to bitch and whine about short breaks.

That was kind of harshly put, but true. I suppose. Possibly.

AS to doibng other things, this is time I set aside for Amia.
And because of 5 morons, we all have to suffer half an hour of a locked server.
So, there are, at least 15 of us, who could log in, and be RPing meaningfully.
So RP suffers because of OOC concerns about a minority.
And Kil, I have 3 hours to play every day, not even in one block. When I have 24 hours in my day that I could play if I wanted to, then I might consider that perhaps 30 mins is gone, is not so bad.. It's like, not ONE SIXTH of my time anymore
((and don't fuck with me, I know fractions.))

Well, agreed that it's nice that everybody's being punished because of a couple of idiots. Oh well, I suppose people will learn after they're done with those 5.

Thats perfectly acceptable, however: Its a holiday in the US (Numbers isn't in the usa tho.) It could be prime time for him?
Could be the only time that they have to play today. Perhaps wanting to do something or continue a Rp from previous the reset.
Lots of reasons. I understand Amia is free, but some might see this as using a bazooka to kill a fly on the wall.
I personally just want to play at the moment because I've already done all my chores and want to unwind before dinner. Because I have to move this week and will be without internet for awhile.

Numbers, what you fail to see is that you won't get in anyway if there's 5 people sitting idle in the selection screen. No matter if the counter says 70/75, you won't get in thanks to them.
No offence, folks, but get a grip: Half an hour of your life isn't worth batting an eyelid for.

But it doesn't. It says 5somethine/75. - I dunno, I'm playing another server

No, you get a grip. Not all of us have 5 hours a day or whatever, or the possiblity to play all evening. I myself have an exam tomorrow and I desired to unwind. Instead I'm a bit more wound up. Cheers.
And for your information half an hour is a quarter of all the time I had available tonight. All of a sudden, it's not so small, neh?

There are better ways to go about it than PW'ing the server. I'll do some digging for the hooks for you, Nekh, and pass it along..
For everyone else; chill. It's a computer game, not your college certicate. It's frustrating and bothersome, I know, but there's a point where I start to wonder if some are a little bit too addicted to this server.
No, it won't be PW'd all the time, btw. I am now doing research on how to stop this effectively, so we don't get this problem at all. And Ron, if you have a solution, let me know.
Those who were booted now (and you were booted, because I found you), don't hang there for an hour again.
I personaly have about three characters to select from. It takes me...30-50 secs to look through the player list and select a character. As for waiting or taking a smoke break. Take the character and log in. Whats the diff?! THEN once your in take your smoke break
That be like telling people who stand around cordor looking at each other for hours on end (Days in game) through the rain and not saying anything.
I do it, but if nothings happening for more than 30mins, I FIND something to do. Dont log in to just STAND and STARE, Stand and talk, fine, stand and joke, okay. But do something, or at lest TRY and do something. Otherwise log out, do something else or change characters
The difference between AFKing in the entry screen and AFKing on the server, is that any DM can free the slot from an ingame AFKer, but not even an admin can free the slot from selection screen AFKer without manually going through the whole server and checking which logins match to those listed as online.
AFKing in the entry screen is just the same as AFKing ingame. It's not allowed, period.

If I afk, I'm never gone more than 5 minutes max, and I let a dm know through a message.

When disco did his 1 hour long maintanance breaks, people werent getting up in flames. Why? Because those breaks didnt happen on their 3 hours time? Perhaps. Or because they knew that after all, it's not end of the world.

Yeah, but unlike the 1 hour breaks, I don't know when that final slimy sod logs in after watching the football, drinking an ice cold beer and laying his wife.

Agreed. Or, better yet, take your smoke break before you log in. You shouldnt generally be AFK longer than 5 min unless it's unavoidable, in which case you should log out.
