Thanks Maias.

For anyone else looking for information on Kara-Tur: Be aware that there's two books out there named Oriental Adventures. The first edition one is the one that deals with Kara-Tur; third edition's Oriental Adventure deals with Rokugan, which isn't in the Forgotten Realms as far as I know. I didn't read too much into it, really, because I'm looking for information on Kara-Tur specifically.

I'm very much looking for information on Kara Tur - in fact, I posted a thread about it just a minute ago before i noticed this one. D'oh!

BUt.. you have done a great service you see..as now that I am aware that there was another Oriental adventures book, I know where to get it.

Does the 1st/2nd addition D&D book Oriental adventures correspond as Forgotten realms cannon? Or is it somethign else completely different?

I'm sure the AD&D Eastern Realms boxed set is canon. As far as I can tell, Kara-Tur wasn't touched in third edition, and I think the boxed set is the most recent mention of Kara-Tur.

It really doesn't have much effect on the rest of Faerun, anyway. Most kara-turan countries are xenophobic, Wa especially, though I read somewhere that Shou Lung (the biggest Kara-Tur country, which is China-based) was slowly expanding colonies across the Hordelands / Endless Wastes to create a safe trade route to the rest of Faerun.

Can't recall quite where I read that, though.

Hi. First time post on the forums. Hopefully I can get some info on the following :

1)I would like to know everything I can about Akadi or any other deities that have to deal with the wind and/or might have wind elementals as servants.

2)I would like some lore on air elemental savants and how a druid could actively become one.

3)How does one learn a new language in Amia ? I have a 16 int character with 18 wis if that has any effect on the learning process. I remember reading somewhere a while back that Intelligence had an effect and what languages you have and how many you could learn.

Thanks for the help.

Heya and welcome to the forums:)

As for you questions..

1:

Sadly our Amia Wiki is down at the moment else I would have pointed towards that.

I have managed to dig out a few alternative websites;

http://www.nwnthevast.com/lore/deities/dminor.htm

http://www.firedragon.com/shadowgate/deities.htm

http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Akadi

Otherwise if you can get your hands on Faiths and Pantheons you can find the entry on page 90-91

Generally Akadi would be the most obvious choice for connections with elementals.
Though it is easy to imagine deities strongly involved in the use of magic might have something to do with the summoning of elementals as well.

Mystra and Azuth would be good options for something involving elementals.

2:

I must admit I do not know much about druids nor really where to find information about them. About elementals in general I was able to find this;

http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Elemental

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elemental_ ... 26_Dragons)

I suggest if possible you get your hands on Manual of the Planes and look it up on page 68-70

3:

About the languages there's a bit about in the official rules and lore forum

There's also a thread about learning languages in general

Hope this can help you out.

Regards

Anyway,lore question:

Do elves worshipping the Seldarine get judged by Kelemvor before going to Arvandor? I personally say no, other players said otherwise to me. I always thought Kelemvor does judge the worshippers of the human pantheon exclusively.

It shall be done.. as soon as I get hold of Grave.

About the judgement of the dead I think, juding from what I read in the Avatar series that it works like this;

A person dies, in this case an elf. He then goes to the Fugue Plane.

There he or she will be "picked up" by the messengers of the Seldarine and taken to Arvandor.

If the elf was false or faithless then the soul will be taken to the halls of Kelemvor and be judged.

So it is possible for Kelemvor to judge elves but only if they fail in upholding their faith in the Seldarine. At least thats my thoughts on the matter.

What I have understood is that when elf die their soul starts going to Arvandor right away, they don't need to wait. In the elfs old days the elf starts feeling tired and slowly starts drifting into Arvandor. Those elfs that has betrayed the Seldarine wont be getting into Arvandor. My knowledge is based on the Book: Evermeet. What I understood from there dead elfs spirit/soul goes right into Arvandor. Thought the Queen who died did return from Arvandor. Thought no elf does it enjoying it, plus you need to be very strong elf like the Queen of Evermeet.

Also, elfs spirit/soul can be kept for a moment from entering Arvandor, if some information is needed before they were able to give it. But. No elf takes easily holding other elfs spirit from entering Arvandor.

If I am wrong please tell me :)

Having now looked through both Elves of Evermeet and Comanthyr Empire of the Elves I withdraw my former statement.

It seems indeed that elves do not go to the Fugue plane but rather "pass on" to Avador.

There is a few other cases presented in Elves of Comanthyr, elves can become Reveered Ones, baelnorns and some even Dryads or treants.

It is also detailed there that those that die young or in battle are buired (different rituals for each subrace) while on the other hand those that pass on are not buired as it is not something sad.

It is a bit more vauge in the Elves of Evermeet book as I read it, it is implied it only rarely happens elves reach the state of "understanding and harmony with the universe"

Perhaps this one of the things that is meant to be shrouded in a fair bit of mystery?

I was under the impression Kelemvor judges *everyone*, then after your judging, the appropriate messenger comes to take you to the deity's realm... which may or may not be the deity you worshipped, depending on how you lived your life.

Evermeet also described that elves who pass on and answer the call from Arvandor just vanish, hence no need for a burial. :D

Tormak's probably right. There's contradiction between 2e and 3e cosmology, including afterlife. Chalk it up to a new man (Kelemvor) in the office.

Mind that Elves of Evermeet is not a reliable source, from an IC point of view, as it is deliberately written from a human visitor's perspective. That's what so cool about it, and many 2e sources. It might be true, or it might be legend. I'm inclined to believe that "passing west" as a physical event is legend rather than truth. After all, there's no way Carreign Macumail, the "author" of Elves of Evermeet, would've known about the intimate end of an elf's life for certain. And, from a cynical OOC perspective, it's a neat way of explaining 3e retconning. It happens a lot, especially with elves. I consider Cormanthyr the most reliable source of elven lore, even at the expense of newer changes, but, alas, things as big as the afterlife can't be ignored. Maias put it well, though: it should be shrouded in mystery, even to us.

Aha, the novel I have yet to read. I guess it's not available anywhere, anymore? Spoilers aside, could you tell us a bit more about them vanishing? Does it only apply to a few select ancient elves? I am sure that the grand majority of elves leave behind quite carnal remains. Then again, elves in 3e have been de-mystified and their Tolkienesque flavour has been obscured. The latter I think is a good thing, even if it means a bit of retconning.

Quite available.

There were two really ancient elves, a couple iirc, that long felt the call from Arvandor, but hesitated because no heirs were present for the reign afterwrds. At one point, they literally decide it is time to go west, leave their place and just vanish to join the other elves in Arvandor. Though those two also were somewhere "favored" by Corellon himself, at least the male had a very direct connection to Corellon, iirc.

The simples answer for a monk becoming an outsider at lvl 20 is because of the definition of an outsider.

Outsider is defined as a being whos body and spirit are one and the same. A normal person has thier spirit housed in thier body, and outsider has thier spirit as thier body. This why you can not ressurect an outsider, because when you destroy the body no spirit is released, which requires a wish or miracle to be used.

The exception is a Native outsider, which can be raised and ressurected freely, also Native Outsiders need to eat, drink and sleep/

Aasimar, Genasi, and Tieflings are Native Outsiders, thier home is the prime plane. Another example of a Native Outsider is a Couatl

So when a Monk reaches level 20 and gains the perfect self feat, it means they have such a strong link between body and spirit that they merg together into the same being, and become a Native Outsider

Righto, question time.

Would it be concievable for a duergar to take dwarvern defender levels?

I get the feeling it would be since they can be lawful evil and also have members of there society and culture whom protect the Duergar Cities and people.

Just want some second opinions on this. I have numerous books, including "The Slayers Guide to Duergar" and a Dragon Article on Duergar Ecology.

I don't see why not, though I guess it'e the same arguement as a Drow Arcane Archer.

To my knowledge Duergar weren't cursed into existence by Moradin or whoever like Drow were, so I'd think going DwD is just peachy keen for them.

Looking for some links on information on Ubtao and Chult.

Are there halforcs in Chult?

What's the jungle like? Dense foliage or thick canopy and open jungle floor?

What native species would be common for use as a ranger companion? Warthog? Panther? Any Others? Some of the others seem more likely to come from a temperate climate.

I know there are some trading ports on the northwest side of Chult. Would trade vessels therefore travel to Lantan/Moonshaes/Amia perhaps?

Ubtao as a deity is probably a poor choice. IN the Time of Toubles, he was forced into a pact that prevents his influence from leaving thee borders of Chult land. So you'd get no blessings from him, your cleric magic would be gone, etc, outside Chult, a.k.a. all of Amia.

Is Laeral's Storm Armour fit armour for druids? The Desc specifically states it is made of a strange nonmetallic material from another plane.

Pros - Not metal but full plate class
Cons - From another plane - just as unnatural?

Awww rats. No wonder there's no idol. At least he's less than 10th level so I can bind to an idol and switch. *sigh* Any dieties in-game I could choose that would be apropo for a CN jungle savage Ranger? Uthgar? Malar?

I think Evereska and Evermeet are the only remaining places where high magic can be cast. You need a high magic tower, at least one to five Selu'taar (high mage) and dozens of other wizards to form a "circle". There are not even enough Winyan PCs do that I think :D

In theory, you need only one high mage for the simplest of rituals, but its meh if you ask me.

http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/High_Magic

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/2/fr_d ... sr1165.zip - also covers high magic.

The Evermeet novel covered quite a bit of High Magic too, but I don't want to spoil this here.

Uh... I was under the impression that he willingly undertook the burden that he carries, not that he is barred from operating outside Chult, rather that other deities are expressly forbidden to operate within his territory.

Ubtao is the king of dinosaurs and creator of Chult. He's a god, but he doesn't do godly things. Instead, it's his job to protect the world from the Night Serpent, an aspect of Set (I believe), and in doing so his territory is not even contested by the most ornery and cantankerous of deities. Chult is his and his alone, and if any deity dares to break that deal, well...

Forgotten Realms Wiki wrote:
Ages ago, Ubtao made an agreement with the rest of the Faerûnian Pantheon to guard the Peaks of Flame for the day when Dendar the Night Serpent enters Toril and ends the world. As reward for this service, the other deities granted him sole control over Chult and agreed to leave his lands alone and never to spread their own religions there. Over time Ubtao's essence began to split into many nature spirits which now are spread across the jungle, one of these was the shadow entity Eshowdow. Shar recently absorbed Eshowdow, and it is believed this activity might be the beginning of the end for the agreement between Ubtao and the rest of the deities.

Eh, it only says it may be broken, as in the future.

But since in the future the spellplague did it, it doesn't matter.

Ravens can speak and mimic even in real life even.

Pseudodragons can telepathicly speak common and sylvan. (cept on amia, but having them just 'speak' it is okay.)

I would assume that familiar speaking depends on the familiar.

Example: Panthers dont usually speak or?

So I would assume that animal familiars dotn speak expect among it own kinds and with druids that cast speak with animal spell.

Familiars that are humanoids like pixie. I would assume that it is able to speak. After all pixie is a faerie creature but is under the mages power because it most likely has chosen the mage as its rememberer.

What comes to dragonic familiars and other magical familiars I doupt that they can speak. But then again it depends on the familiar.

Well, dragons can talk. They have the ability to. I always saw pseudodragons as the only familiars that could "talk", and that's why I always chose them. >.>

Actually, Psuedodragons are the only type of dragon that can't talk. They lack the ability. They tend to purr, chirp, growl, etcetera as a means of presenting themselves. But, they're also telepathic speakers on the side, so them being table to 'talk' on Amia doesn't strike me as that bad of a tradein.

*cough!*

DM's can talk to.

You just need to give them a good smack around the head when they refuse to. *nods*

Ravens can speak and mimic even in real life even.

And more importantly, since nothing that occurs in real life with animals that also exist in D&D counts unless it's also in a D&D book (WHAT I'M NOT BITTER) here's the excerpt on that you actually need:

"A raven familiar can speak one language of its master’s choice as a supernatural ability."

Thanks!
