The one thing you must be careful about though is the number of goodly cities to evilly cities raito. If it ends up only Tarkuul for evil cities on A-mia. Things could get awkard. But I'm into this. Simply because I would love to see the shadowscape expanded, bring back the awesome waterfall area and the massive bit outside the gates. Except include more areas and place shadow based enemies in the area. Or enemies with Shadow Armour permently cast, maybe with ghostly visage and stuff. Just think it could be quite cool. Shadowscape has some awesome potential that was unable to be tapped back with only one server.
Mhm, Shadowscape can be so much better, if it's moved, then we've freed up areas on A-mia and also given more space to develop the planes/lesser known areas some more.

I actually copied the most hunted creature from A to B, thinking the duplicated challenge would be a good start for the Frozenfar. Yes, they are exactly the same as those trolls you farmed about a million times now. Many creatures are also old ones in a new jacket. Some challenge, same XP.
Seems most of this is between your ears, folks, and I can't help with that.

Bullshit, nd it's, again, that exact attitude that keeps it being that way.
They ARE one gameworld You aren't a "A-server Faction". I shouldn't NEED to go to A if I want to interact with a Salandran and I shouldn't NEED to go to B if I want to interact with a Dwarf. That's not how it works.

Well that is how it works. I agree that it should work as all one server, but the reality is that it's looked at as two different places.

I am afraid I agree with Phearnun here. Saying black is white doesn't make black any whiter.
Tormak has a good point, though, when it comes to it being one server. A lot of your complaints are basically equal to "it isn't Amia as we are used to have it". It is Amia, however, and the changes are not much different than adding new areas to the old one. If you don't want to use it, fine, but that's your decision and not one I will cater for. The 65 player limit will stay, and popularity still increases, so I'd suggest a slightly more constructive approach from the player base.
Anyway, I agree with many observations.
1. Factions.
It would be good to have factions move to new areas on B. You are basically sitting on eachother's lip in A and a bit of spreading wouldn't hurt. However, I must say that the reaction to my first request/suggestion to a faction to move to B wasn't very promising. Any volunteers?
2. Few players
As far as I can see the issue is that you are all waiting for somebody else to make the first move. If only a few use B then the complaint is that there's only a few people using it. Can't deny the logic, but you spot the problem there, I bet.
3. Moving more regions to B
Already processed the Abyss. I just need to test it and then I'll link it up. Shadowscape is next.
4. RP areas
Gonna add a few soon. Djedet can have a few interiors, including rentable houses. Also added two houses to the updated Zanshibon.
5. Shops
That just takes a bit of time. I added/created about 80 new areas and critters during the last few months and that's about the upper speed limit.
6. Difficulty
I'm gonna be blunt here: this is not a kindergarten. If you fancy blablabla RP you can play Second Life. I am not gonna give you a player guide, or a set of maps. Explore and compile that yourself. It is what this game and this server is made for. Uberuce is always open for comments on the difficulty of individual critters and fixes will be made if needed, as you can see in the Announcement logs.
Probably forgot a few things, but the Head DM is whining about hunger, going out for dinner, and such silly things.

IF the UD was on B, the drow factions would be more then happy to be moved to that server IMO. Dev Disco wrote: 2. I agree with this statement. The world is dangerous and should be treated as such. I myself like the idea of exploring and just discovering new places, it is neat to find new places IMO. But when have stories of exploring been about just going to place A to B safely without danger? almost never, danger makes exploring fun.

Rentable houses in Zanshibon? Huzzah! *does a celebration dance*
Also I must admit for many old players I think it is much more a question of habits rather than a rational choice. We are so used to be trolling around on Amia A many (including myself) wouldn't know what to do on Amia B other than explore.
Though if the Amia B project still is in the "under construction" phase I'd rather wait to see the finalized version before really reviewing it.

In addition to the "two seperate servers" image moving the drow playerbase to B would support, it also wouldn't help with spreading out factions; surface factions that don't interact with UD factions anyway would still all be in the same crowded areas, and the UD factions would still be lumped together, away from the surface they don't interact with. The goal shouldn't be to seperate the playerbase into A-goers and B-goers, but give everyone reason to visit both A and B, based on who they want to interact with and where they want to go, any given day.
But attitude is also a big factor, and Disco can't change that with a life of module design. It's up to the players, and admittedly, the DMs to bring life to the areas on both servers. Of course, you can't expect every place to be active when our playercount isn't unlimited.

Agreed! The gist of this thread (seems to me) is about giving players a reason to go to B other than xp grinding. Currently, except for the dwarves in Brog, there doesn't seem to be any RP centers around which players can base their PCs. Once this is incorporated, I think the A/B split will simply be a technicality.
And I'm glad to hear it's underway. Let's all be patient and help the process along.

Quote: About the attitude... I believe certain people are being a bit too emotional and paranoid about this. Amia a and amia b will not turn into two camps with different players that war for dm attention, slander eachother and break further apart. Most people have more than one character, so there is a large potential they will play on both servers.
Ill objectify Herra Tutteri and Opustus to make my point. They both play dwarfes located on amia b in Brogendenstein, however they also both have Kellie characters located in Benwick Hollow on amia a. Same goes for most drow players, herkles for instance has a ultrinnan drow and a winyan elf.
You're only proving my point. People don't need more than one PC to play on both servers. Why can't the Kellies go smite on B? Why can't the stumpies protect dwarven interests on A? Does not the issues of Cordor affect them in Brogendenstein? Shouldn't they WANT to hang around? The Kelly characters are not "A" characters, and the dwarves are not "B" characters.

I don't know tormy, maybe because their factional base is there? Perhaps that might just have some small factor in deciding where someone plays? Phearnun has said that he does go to the other server as well. I think you just want the server back as one server un splitted.

if you move the underdark
im going to have to relearn where everything is
and who the hell wants to do that?
and to the person who said it should be one server...it once was, and their were far more complaints then than there are now

Dont hurt me for this: Arelith has one server for surface and one for underdark. underdark characters are likely to get in lots of PvP on the surface and vice versa, but there was nothing more fun than the RP that preceeded it. Tensions between factions are fun, and putting one on the other server seperates them; as long as they hate each other ICly and fight, it really doesnt matter.
I like to think I'm with Tormie on this. The only mechanical difference I even see is that of the player slots filling up. other than that, its just another transition between two areas.

Quite honestly, this statement says to me "Please remove all faction bases."
I'm a total fan of the server split, especially as an area designer. This opens up new opportunities for me to design some awesome areas, and I already have been doing so.
But to see people claim they are a server A faction, or a server B faction, just because of where their "base" is located....well, like Tormak said, it's ONE world. The events of one "half" are going to affect the other, and if what you are saying is that having a character in a faction means you are only gonna sit around your faction base stagnating, not bothering with the other "half" of the world anymore, simply because the transition to it includes a login screen.....well....I'd say that's equivalent to saying that faction bases have served the wrong purpose, and should be removed.
A faction base is supposed to be your home. Not your world.

Until B has areas that serve the full range of player levels, it will be limited to the epic level players, and as such, will be a limited-use server.
If my PC isn't hanging out around his faction area RPing, he's out hunting and exploring areas where he can survive. This limits my play to A for the most part, as I only have one epic char that can survive on B.
Once B becomes a "full service" server, it will simply be a 'transition away' like any other area on Amia.
I know there's an area for lower levels, and I read Nes'ek is on B too; those are steps in the right direction. As long as the devs keep at it, this A/B discussion will eventually be a thing of the past.

Phearnun wrote: I think that perhaps I must make it a bit clearer what I mean with the term Server A faction and Server B faction. Factions usually have a geographical home where they are most active in. The Triadic Knights have Kohlingen. Now, to repeat myself slightly, I see the Triadic Knights as a Kohlingen faction, meaning a Server A faction. This does in no way mean I am suggesting the Triadic Knights should only concern themselves with Kohlingen and neither only with Server A. This is one gameworld and they will participate in those areas they believe they should, independed of the fact some areas are on B and others on A.
I fully agree people should not stop "bothering with the other "half" of the world anymore, simply because the transition to it includes a login screen" and I believe that fear is not very real at all. I do not believe any faction is ignoring areas because of a login screen.
The point I have been trying to make, do not close your eyes and go "lalalalala" to just ignore the Server Split is here, because it is. Do not go into an over dramatic rant on how this will end the gameworlds life. Server A and Server B exist, they have different needs due to having different areas, for example, critter balance of the Quagmires would hardly affect Server B. Some RP areas will be more active that others, meaning the playerbase will never be balanced completely. Cordor and Bendir are just prefered over Wiltun or Endir's Point. The good thing is, we are hardly splitting the playerbase into two camps and with the easy transitions there is no fear that they become independed of eachother.
I was typing something up but phearnun sums up my views pretty well.
A group will locate around a place, a base or a city or even a whole region, that is of revelance to their charachter. For instance the kelemovirites, they tend to be on the server where their own shrine is located. does that mean they are a "server A" faction. perhaps, but they spend time on server A more often then they would over B because the areas that matter to their char are on that server. it can be applied to any group, people will gather in areas of importance.

Yes, PHearnun, herkles, you caught me. I'm secrelty plotting to undo the split, because this is something I could easily do. You got me.
Whatever. Continue to live in your little "Bmia" and "Amia" places. None of you are listening to what I'm saying, and I'll just get to say "I Told You So" again.

From what i have noticed is AmiaB is the action portion and AmiaA is mostly the RP portion, because you are more likely to get DM attention on A then B, and people go where the DMs are

Have you actually played the server? It has the full range, from CR 1 to about 40.
Anyway, I doubt I am the only one who lost the plot in the ongoing argument above. Starts to sound like a Catholic dogma discussion about the unity of Christ in flesh and spirit. As far as I can see it's very simple:
1. Amia has regions.
2. Regions have their inhabitants.
3. You move between regions with a transition, cart, or boat.
Whether a region is on server A or B is just a technical matter, and irrelevant to any IC event. You can't see what happens in Cordor when you are in the UD, so why should it matter you can't look into Cordor when you are in Djedet? The fact that our heavenly intercom (read: accepted metagaming device) called the chat channel doesn't reach over the servers is probably the main reason why people want to be on Amia A. There's little I can do about that, I'm afraid.

I'm not sure if anyone has pitched this idea yet... but instead of transferring whole faction areas (this also applies to the underdark) there is the option of simply creating an outpost for them on B.
Maybe create a second drow city on B to give the drow players a home away from home, or another chapter of the Kelly church?
Just try and make it so that faction players have areas they feel matter to them on both servers?

Blehg.
Amia B, or Bmia as some say[?], just needs TIME.
Time to be discovered.
Time to get more attention.
Time to be understood.
Time to blah blah blah...
Bacisly it's just going to take Time for people to get used to and understand B-Amia.
*Didn't even read more that 3 posts.*

I disagree with two sets of faction areas for one faction.

I don't give a damn about the philisophical faction arguements between the split, because as mentioned several times before, it's just like walking through another transition.
If the UD is moved to B, then both servers will probably be evened out population wise.
It would make the server that tiny bit more efficient instead of eight hundred people spamming direct connect every few minutes when A hits 65.
If they want to hide in their faction base and not come out, that's their fault.
Anyways, Disco Knows all, Tormak will insult and disagree with all, but they have a miracle method that makes things work out some how.
Let em handle it. Woot.

That's the spirit!
I think this has to do with attitude more than anything else. Change your attitude, and you'll have loads of fun. The Devs and DMs are still working on the split, so chillax.

I'd like to see lots of sneaky hidden areas on Amia B waiting to be discovered. I love the elevator and the rope thingy and other fun things like that. I'd like to see another Epicy area hidden in some of these hidden regions waiting to be discovered and most of all, I'd love to see a Dragon of epic uberyness (50% win chance for a party of 6 level 30s/50% lose chance) in one such an area (maybe a shadow dragon or something fun and different) with lots of hp (10,000 maybe 15,000?) and several heals to boot.
I think that'll move people over who want to explore. One current mode of behviour atm is level frenzy. That is, people want to get to level 30 quickly and then when they get there, find that epic areas get a bit monotonous after a while and then hang out in cordor.
Having hidden secret areas that can only be accessed via doing a quest that gets increasingly more difficult with a big nasty dragon at the end of it for that epicy battle.
This is sort of like the Map Key quest on Aertheca. Where you need a combination of puzzle solving and fighting hard fought battles (where failure is all too easy) to get each piece of the map, then locating hidden areas (via small transitions) before battling the big bad boss which, if defeated leads to a secret hidden shop for you to buy rather nice items from.
Think of it this way, combine the Bastion with the Pirate/Forrstakkr Quests and add in epicy big boss at end and then throw in that secret rogues shop and you've all the hallmarks of something both Knights and Rogues would love. In effect, its an epic quest that can't be done in one 6 hour session but would take many weeks to solve/win.

I am actually designing a rather epic quest that you can only do if you access many regions. I am even thinking about adding level requirements to each step so it's not some waltzover for Epics but something that progresses with every few levels.
It's gonna be a bitch to test, I am afraid.

Does that mean that existing characters above a certain level will be unable to complete the quest at all, or will it be possible for them to hire people to complete certain stages for them?

That'd be a shame, but understandable.
Anyway, my opinion on B based on this thread was "Uh oh, Bmia doesn't sound like a fun place to RP!"
And when I went there...
This thread no longer holds water.

The amount of activity there yesterday, when Amia A was down, was amazing!
I vote we get Amia A down again, so people go back to Amia B to get acquainted with the place. >.>
