Then instead of*wonders why he talks* why not say something like *tilts his head to the side giving a puzzled expression, arms crossed* Or something to that effect and tell the people around you exactly what they are looking?

When people do thought bubbles or God emotes, I simply do an emote back.

*suddenly develops the psionic ability to read [name]'s thoughts (or feelings)*

I then act on it IC as having known their thoughts and react accordingly. After all, if they emote something that my character couldn't possibly know, then I assume they are actually allowing my character to know, otherwise, they'd not be able to emote it.

They then have to deal with the IC consequences.

That's called metagaming and roleplaying powers your character doesn't have, which is worse than someone who's being irritating in thought bubbles. Don't do it.

Or it could be seen as being perceptive and intuitive to emotions, facial expression, attitudes, non-verbal body language, etc....

At least, that's how I see it. Remember 90% of all communication is non-verbal. If they're emoting thoughts and feelings, to some extent, you're going to pick up on their vibes and empathy. That's how I see communication working for these sorts of things.

*Proviso* only works for highly perceptive characters (High Wisdom, High Spot/Listen, etc).

That is to say, if they emote OOC info, IC, then their character is reacting in a way that allows some kind of visual or non-verbal cue to pick up on it.

Guess then I'll go with the consensus and just ignore such emotes...I was just trying to think of a way to incorporate them into the RP so as to roll with the punches so to speak and try and keep everything that's IC, IC rather than interrupt the flow of rp.

Fighting you? I am not fighting you, trying to get you to see the point. If you give someone information that they couldnt have, then you are not giving them what their character would know so its OOC right? You either give them info they can react to and its IC, or you give them OOC info which I guess is meant to offend them? I think a good response to that is to turn it back on them and take it IC as information given to you somehow...its either that or they are OOCly making attacks afterall.

Your premise, that you can only exchange information between players that their characters would know and can react to, ICly, is wrong, IMO. It's a style, but not the only style. Call it OOC, if you like, but there's nothing wrong with the odd:

*For a moment, the monk withdraws into his barren mindscape to medidate on the tradition of his forefathers, renewing his Ki-energy as he considers these paragon movements of the past and how well they translate to his modern enemies - down ahead in the dungeon.*

If that floats your boat, I mean. To use this perspective to take jabs at other characters is simply lame though.

Well, I don't think that is so bad personally...but there is still something a bit wrong with it. The difference, though, is that if other characters had that information ICly it probably wouldnt massively alter their RP anyway. Whereas the insult thing may.

I think the thought bubble insult is just a way of doing something you couldnt otherwise. It changes everyone's RP around you, as well. For instance, let's say you turn up and someone in cordor says in a thought bubble (I hate this guy because _insert reason_) then most players metagame that in some way, if only that they 'wait' for some IC excuse to hate your char because of what was said in the thought bubble. I've even seen a situation occur where two characters (A and B) had a talk behind character C's back, then when all three of them were in cordor east B delivered what A said through a thought bubble and C mysteriously began to hate A. It caused a real OOC mess if I remember correctly.

So yeah, if a situation like that occurs I will undermine it by reacting to it as well.

Worse case scenario: ban. So the choice is basically get pushed around by someone on the internet, or potentially be banned from an online computer game. That about sum it up?

I feel sorry for whoever chooses the former.

Why is it you constantly take every opportunity to do the opposite of what we're told?

It's pretty simply, you make a CHOICE to do what you will do. Just do it and be adult enough to take the repercussions, or not, but don't talk about doing it and then get all pissy when your told you can't.

Let's start now.

.oO(That Wyjyn guy, well, he gets pissy poorly)Oo.

No no, that's not the the choice at all. It goes:

A) Just don't care.

B) Care and get annoyed.

C) Join in on being a git, and get punished for metagaming (due to the psionic abilities).

I'm sorry, I don't really see the part in which anyone's pushed around.
