I couldn't find somewhere more appropriate to post this so i started a topic.

where exactly does Amia fit into the FR Faerun map? I'm not asking if it actually exists on in the world, just where is it meant to be on the map?

you see my pc is born from Thay and has travelled around the sea of fallen stars, through Thesk to Cormyr then to Amn, the last place she lived for a time. so from there i dont know if she went N S E or W to reach amia.

^^

Well as long as its the general location she travelled its good. as long as i know she came to be at Amia via the Moonshae Isles and its west of Amn its all good.

but if you can find updated maps you would be aces

I would say close enough so that we have a load of elves from Evermeet here (Winyan Guards for instance) But far enough away so they can't get back

Ruathym is a canon island, and it's a mountain range! The Amian areas are just smaller islands near the main island. Though I guess you were making a joke. Hrmph.

Unholy, those maps are made by an Amian player. Amia doesn't actually exist on Toril. There's an updated map of Amia, the island, on the forums somewhere but it's not yet in R&L because Jaq was apparently not yet finished with it. Just search for map and Amia, and Jaqueline's posts, and you should find it.

Evermeet is far enough. Completely seriously, it shouldn't be much further than the Moonshaes, but nobody sails west of Amia. That way lies dangerous waters, and I daresay no ships sail far west off Amia's coast, even to go around the island.

All that matters: The Underdark connects to Amia.

Or the Amian Underdark is just under the island?

If it was connected, there would be a way to the mainland. >.>
But it would be a bloody heck of a long walk.

Probably a waterway *shrugs*.
But down this path lies the whole Baenre not being Menzo argument.

Amian Baenre is a branch of the Menzo Baenre. A cousin's sister's husband's niece sent to take over a backwater village as a gift from the gracious grande madre Baenre.

What part of Icewind Dale is Frozenfar? I'm guessing that the 10 towns are further north and that this is part of the coast, but what part of the coast is it exactly?

I have always considered there to be a connection of some sort, probably a waterway, to the mainland. When I went away for a long time I said Isen got a boat from underport to the mainland to visit the city with the largest concentration of selvetarm worshipers.

Its (waterway) the only way that would make sense, IMO.

Cori said it was more located in the Spine of the World's Edge Mountains rather then Icewind Dale.

Well, it's also contradicting the official stuff. If you look at the maps you see no UD branches extending below the oceans. Would be a bit dangerous: one crack in the ceiling and you are literally flushed out of it in a humongous geyser. My assumption is that the original Drow settlers arrived by boat and that Amia has an UD that is as extensive as the island itself.

Plate tectonics and parallel evolution could be another explanation. :D

Alternatively: Lord Ao did it!

South of the Spine. The Dales are North of it. The Frozenfar is basically the area around Fireshear.

:D interesting stuff
its a shame Amia is not actually included on the official maps, apart from a island mystically appearing out of the sea i don't think there's a reason it shouldn't be.
I see no reason why it shouldn't be immortalised within FR/Faerun.
Its the most popular server of its kind and I'm sure people would like to see that become a reality.
i bet a Forgotten Realms or Dragon Lance novelist or two plays here who would like to see Amia just pop out the ocean :Þ

Well, to get on those maps you gotta be friends with the Wizards of the Coast. However, I'd probably be more comfortable with being part of Stalin's inner circle around 1936 than to be close to WotC and its lawyers.

I reckon your life expectancy would be longer by a loud Trotsky supporter around that time too.

Um... The two most popular servers on nwn you mean. Though they may be extremely different nowadays, Arelith and Amia are still similar in several aspects.

They both have Cordor,
They both have Brog
They both have troll caves, Kobold caves, Bramble Woods in the same place as each other
They both have a Grove in the Amia/Arelith forest (etc. etc. etc.)

There are differences yes but if you know Amia well, it's possible to navigate around Arelith up to the Arelith Forest like the back of your hand.

I always thought Amia's Frozenfar was just north of the Spines (as it's never specified on any maps, I think), but this is much better! Illefarn only reached as north as the Spine, so this gives reason to hunt elven relics there!

Frozenfar is in the mainland?!?!

Now -that- I didn't know... I thought it was on the island of Forstakkr or on a small island near it. Shows how much I know
