If someone attempts a pickpocket on you and they get a critical fail, or any fail where your character sees them, are you then allowed to immediately go hostile and kick their butts?
I have searched alot but cant seem to find an answer to this.
I cast forceful hand on pickpockets and then kick them in the groin repeatedly. Most don't try to steal from me again.

Sometimes they run, I think that the you have a right to kick their ass if that's what your character would do without saying anything if they run without emoting or saying anything at all. Yes or no?

To what end? If you catch them you're either forced to stomp them right away or pause to try and say something at which point they run off. In the end it comes down to a complete lack of RP.

I never said the RP had to come before you smacked down the non RPing 100% obvious pickpocket spammer in thhis specific situation only and not in general PVP where you need to follow all rules of the server.

Someone trying to steal from you in my opinion is enough to rouse a character to want to kick their arse. It's a normal reaction for finding someone's hand down your pockets tugging at your car keys.
I found my best solution of being pick-pocketed was to count the times it gets done.
Had somebody nictch me 3 times and I told them I was counting for the 5 limit. Well, OOCly. Sure, ICly I was an easy target ^^ But they chose not to take those other 2 picks left.
Heh.
I just wait to see... Really haven't had issues with bad pickpocketers save maybe once.
And yeah, you really are allowed to whack to moron who got caught and then explain why. It's how it'd flow
I've had more issues with a hin randomly kicking everybody in sight to the point I said "I no longer accept your IC and deny to realize it"- it had also gone into metagame, but I think that is the worst I've had to do to give somebody the clue that spamming "kicks [name]" by macro wasn't cool.

I dunno... if someone won't stop even as you chase them and they won't answer to your speedy typing as you try to keep up, I say stop them down. I don't think that's unfair. IC actions get IC consequences right? It's almost like someone buffing after threatening you, you tell them to stop, if they don't, you stomp them.

If you catch me pickpocketing, feel free to curbstomp my char at will. Though, I wil admit that I would find it a bit "meh" if a Level 30 Cleric depleted his greatest favors from his god in order to smack a mere pickpocket reaching for his purse in a crowded market. If you react to a pickpocket as part of the enviroment, and not blatantly over-priorititize it because it's a PC, then I would be impressed.

I would if pickpockets were guttersnipes and not powerful enough to overthrow a small mainland country.

I have one character, I think, that wouldn't jump a pickpocket instantly, if it failed. Any of the others would give chase, and if they caught the bastard, most likely hang his/her dead body from a tree, and invite the town's kids to check out the new pinãta.

Well you don't know they are magic items. If I'm correct the whole detect magic debate was run a long time ago.
If you're evil as Satans flatulence then I guess you kill them. On the other hand, if you're not really really evil (like CE) then out right killing wouldn't be too smart and should get you in more trouble then them.
Fo r STR builds: Dangle him upside down in a river and ask if he got enough 'loot' from you yet.
For dex builds: Eh, don't think you can even be pickpocket if you spent a few points in it.
Cha Clerics: Buff up and ask if he wants to try again.
And there is always teh Acid sheath or fire shield variant. 100% pickpocket proof since they will get burned. Hah.
At least RP wise.

That would be nice if they didn't just bugger off straight after trying ... you can't do any of that if they keep running around ... you just simply can't type it.

In my opinion if someone who's been discovered pickpocketing transitions to an obviously guarded area they should be stopped. Think about it, if guards see two guys running through the streets, one of them yelling 'Give me back my wallet!' then they're going to do something.

And they end up metagaming the guards. Which they ignore.
Which you should screeny and still beat them to a pulp for the effort, mind I know my mercy would disappear after running for ten minutes.

Cast the spell and pose afterwards, they were after all trying to run away and there the rules say can you do that.

If i pickpocketed, and got caught, i'd probably use some bluff skill and try to lie my way out of it. If i couldn't, i'd be ready to get beat to a bloody and sad pulp. running away is the coward's answer. Most likely the people on amia have quick enough reflexes to grab my hand and instantly kill me.

7. If you do not give the other party time to observe the usual protocol, you can't expect them to stick to the protocol. This means that by resting, buffing or other such preperations to hostility, you forfeit your right to a warning: The other party may attack you immediately to stop you. If you have not set them to Hostile before, you can't blame them for having to act without it. Both parties should strive to set eachother to Hostile after the immediate reaction, however.
8. The above goes for fleeing from hostile situations: If you turn tail and run without a word to avoid IC consequence, you can expect to be stopped by any means possible. Always give others reasonable time to react with RP!
You shouldn't smack someone straight away if you're given time to react via text. If you're not given that time, though, the above rule comes into effect.

I still prefer the tactic of getting death immunity or whatever and then sitting all day in the middle of a constantly recast horrid wilting. That puts the buggers right off.

If it's rped out well enough, even if the server says my PC noticed it I'll let it go, and have them note the loss later, by grabbing for an item and noticing its missing, assuming it was lost.
...Unless its on Rras, if he notices a pick-pocket he proceeds with Draconic Prime-Directive 1.
When dealing with thieves:
Demand they return it and grovel.
If complied: Wee! -Grrr!-
If not->Proceed beating till one or the other's blood stops pumping out of the holes.

It's a good way to clear out a room if you suspect a SD came in. Haste, Shadowshield and spam horrid wilting. If there was no SD you're in a locked room where you can rest. If there was, there now isn't.
But if someone pickpockets you, RP accordingly - what would you do if you saw someone's fingers on your pants (beside break them)?
And if they tried running, all bets are off.

A critical failure means that the PPer is knocked to the ground with their helmet removed for 2(?) Rounds. There is no running away. The PPer has not just been seen but caught and is at the mercy of their intended victim.
Running away is the perfect IC response to a non-critical failure.

Um, no... The response is dependent on the character and the environment. A Paladin, for example, should never kill a failed PPer, except under very limited and specific circumstances. By the same token I would expect a Blackguard to torture a PPer and a Necromancer to drag them off to Tarkuul for experiments.
Something else that people often forget is that you can use non-lethal force. Using your fists to Knockdown someone is an excellent non-lethal response. A Wizard shouldn't resort to Wail when they have Hold Person.

Naturally it depends on the character, but it is certainly a reasonable response, especially since they're going to come back alive later.
Death is a learning experience.

Personally: Depends on which character I'm playing. If someone attempts to steal from one of my more Chaotic Neutral/Evil characters, they'll get beaten up. From Lawful, they'll try to get the person into trouble. And from good... some of them would even try to make them see the error in their ways.

So, I have come to the conclusion that Yes, you can whop their butts into a bloody pulp if you catch them pickpocketing you. Thankyou all for your inputs, most valuable and appreciated
