I swear that this was modified on Amia somehow. Is this true? If so, what is its implementation.

It has a set dc, too low to open anything.

Bot page spawns lock picks though, which is nice, they go to +10 depending on caster level.

Ahh, I see. So something like a Chime of Opening means nothing to a rogue except an elaborate paperweight?

As far as I know, it's no use to anyone other than as an elaborate paperweight.

Vendor fodder.

Knock DC should get bonus points for spellcraft.

Or caster ability modifier.

That would be great. Yet another way to remove the importance of rogues altogether

*plays a rogue* 8)

Still have traps. Plus we can get meatshields to try and force doors open.

Could just have Knock give a skill bonus to open lock instead, I guess.

That's what the +10 tools do ... :) I haven't tried, but I suppose you can also give them to a rogue, which would be a lot more useful than trying to open that lock yourself.

I don't think you can use any bonus unless you already have one rank in that skill

True, it requires training. But it's cross-class, meaning two skill points is enough to get access to 1+10 (thief tools)+take20 = DC 31 doors. Without items, a minor DEX bonus etc.

iirc, Only rogues can tackle locks higher than 30, or some number.

Personally I think it's fit as it is, mostly because I'm being biased and I play a rogue who uses Open Lock. The spell creating +10 tools is perfect, you just need to make friends with a rogue. If you don't, then well, thats your problem.

Amia is a team-server, as I've heard so many times before. You -cannot- do everything by yourself
That is how it is intended, and thats how I believe it should stay.

Side-note; It would be nice for some wizards to buddy-buddy with some rogues sometimes!

You're thinking of disarming traps. Unless Amia changed the open lock skill. However, Assassin and Rogue are the only classes which have this skill and not many tumble-dumpers invest in it, I suppose.

They do! It's called the Pixie familiar ...

But seriously, the BoT Knock is a very nice party spell. It's too bad that implementing more spells like this (Find Trap giving a bonus to disable?) would disturb the balance.

You're probably right on that one, I'll look it up later though.

And I meant -players-. We rogues could use some Wizards friends, you know, and don't even dare say "get some scrolls". >_>

I mean mostly in the sense of RP, with some fighting help. There's been so many ideas I've come up with that would be accomplishable if I had any wizards with the same ideals.

I know when I have a caster I love rogues. Summon meatshield, enchant the rogue and watch him tear through everything with sneak attack.

Just use a fey as your familiar. It's the same as a rogue only you don't have to feed it.

We've already covered that. (Note: You *can* feed it. That's even better!) The next step in teasing rogues should be:

Yurell wrote:

Or team up with another mage with the panther to complement your pixie. :)

Ah ... I should stop now.

PS: Looking forward to meeting rogues in game!

Only if the mage, meatshield, and rogue don't know what they're doing?

Mage is too blanket term.

More specifics.

I would rather have actual party members as opposed to summons/familiars for the simple fact that the PCs can think and communicate, know who they're supposed to go after, and won't get stuck behind a doorway or PLC. Nothing more frustrating than having your pixie/panther familiar attacking the only monster it can't do sneaks on.
