I am looking for information upon winya, including winya lore, so I am making a thread for them. I do have some questions of my own, and maybe other people do as well. but here are my questions

1. What is the percentage of the individual elven subrace population?
2. population in general?
3. relation to evermeet?
4. how many wizards?
5. what are their imports and exports?

That is all I have for now, but there is info from the wiki on winya, yet I am unsure how correct it is or not, so I have it here for reference, but unsure about how correct it is. So I would like to know more about the city and get my answers I have above, since what is listed below might be wrong.

Answering to the best of my knowledge here:

1 and 2. You'd need a DM's call on this one. I'm sure Iron will let us know. I'd say that most of Winya is Moon Elven (30% at least), with the next greatest being Sun Elven (20% at least).

3. Like any other Elven City, Winya has close ties to Evermeet. Vilmandel has a sphere in which he can contact Evermeet in times of dire need.
Most of the Winyan Guards were highly trained in Evermeet, before being sent to help protect Winya.

5. It's a self-sustained city for the most part. Winya would likely have an export of their arts. Swords, Armor, Paintings, Music, Wine, Magic, Books, etc. I'm not sure that anything would really be imported in bulk, but they would obviously require the materials for their crafts.

Mind that most of what i write is what i asume or belive, and may not be exaclty how it is.

As far as Winya's Guards.. otherwise known as Evermeeten Guards or what have you, ive alwese RPed that they are under the soul command of their Captain, in Winya. Who in turn answers to his boss in Evermeet. In otherwords, the council cant command the Evermeeten guards to march to war, or go defend the Dale, or whatever. Their job (afaik) is the protection of Winya, more pointably, the Life Stone.

Winya has its own population that can, perhaps, be called to war and what not.. every elf can use a bow.

I also noted somewhere on the fourms, perhaps in the above link, that i dont think winya would have ANY exports, not in any kind of bulk anyway. The Elves live off the land, they dont need to trade their stuff, for coin. I dont think Greed is something the city suffers from eather. Their not a trade city, their not a village you stop in after traviling in the wagon for a day. Its a semi hidden, off the road kinda place. This is kinda what why there isnt a road leading to Winya itself, they dont move things along there often enough to keep the grass down.

Biggest trade thing i think they ever did was with the Dwarves that built most of the current Winya. Besides that, i asume they keep to themselves for the most part.

I belive Iron also said Winya has very little magic, for an Elven city. I think its asumed that most elves can cast cantrips, but there arnt more then a dozen practiced Wizards.

Nothing's canonized.

Relations to Evermeet are distant, I reckon. After all, the part of original Winyans that came from Evermeet chose to leave the island, ignore the Retreat, Return. That's something that obviously will colour the attitudes of the original inhabitants, though I reckon the majority of the population hasn't lived there for that long. That's also why there's such a lack of ancient nobility and elitism: that kind of people never came to Winya in the first place, and those Retreating from mainland Faerûn had no reason to stop on Amia but instead would've continued on to Evermeet.

Evermeet has its own problems, and its relations to every other settlement are remote, if occasionally warm. Nimesin's attack and the war in Evereska strained the island greatly, and the Council attitudes you see in the Last Mythal series are what would be prevalent there. (It's still undecided whether we're in the middle of Last Mythal's events or not.) There's absolutely no reason to assume any kind of support from Evermeet, and this ought to be obvious to the locals.

I still feel it's a mundane city. It's simply not very cultured or prosperous. Not many high level wizard NPCs. (Currently, none named, but that's subject to change.) I'm inclined to think there are more wood elves than I originally estimated, because wood elves are specifically the guardians of old kingdoms, those who remain in elven homelands on Faerûn. Moon elves don't have many realms outside of Evermeet, they tend to blend in among other races or stick to Evereska (and some woods in the North, such as Moonwood and Ardeep, I believe?) whereas sun elves have largely abandoned everything outside of Evermeet and Evereska's city walls for altogether. (Even the hills around Evereska are inhabited by moon elves, not sun elves.)

There are no drow, avariel, aquatic elves or lythari in Winya. Neither are there any snow elves or shadow elves. (PCs excepted, in all cases, of course.) There's probably only a handful of wild elves, though I reckon it's not unreasonable that some have travelled to Amia from the nearby Moonshaes, whose elven population consists of wild elves (or the "Lewyrr", but they're apparently green elves).

I don't know about trade. They trade, that much is certain, because they practice the kind of crafts that wouldn't be possible if they lived off the land. They've jewellers, smiths, weavers and scribes, after all, and Winya doesn't have massive production of raw materials. They don't mine for ore or gems. I reckon they sell luxury products for raw materials. Elven cloth, weapons and such would be in high demand among the upper class humans.

I would say that iron's comment is right for the most part, I would wager that the relations with evermeet are distant but warm. We for example have Evermeet Guards here, plus some of the PCs are from evermeet, Amareth for example is from the city of Ruith on Evermeet, she also is a councilor. I know you aren't really figuring in PCs, but I am figuring as I said it is a distant relation but a warm one, sort of like a releative of yours that lives far away and you don't see often. It is distant as you don't usually see each other, but for the most part it would be a warm one.

I do not exactly know winya's total population number, but I am going to guess the number of sub race brakedown, of the elven subrace.

45% wood elf
25% sun elf
25% moon elf
5% wild elf

This favors wood elf, but also for the most part the subraces are on about equal repenstation, as I see them. This of course can always change with various things but that is how I see it.

For magic, I see them having several mages, not very powerful ones but several. There is for example, a good number of AAs in Winya, i believe so I imagine that magic would exist, but not many powerful ones if any. Divine magic though is probaly a bit more prevelent, Vilamendel is after all a high priest, and i assume capable of casting alot of magic, I would aslo assume several of the NPCs are just regular priestess/preist of the salderine.

For trade, I do see them making luxery items, at least for humans anyways. jewerly, silk, elven weapons and armor, and books. I am not sure who they would trade with, I can imagine they might trade with brog for the raw materials of jewels in return for making them into items. I do see them though as largely be self sufficent, not needing much from the outside world, but trading what they do need.

As for the time line, that will be for another thread alltogether, though i personally see it as that the elven army from evermeet has managed to just beat the fey'ri army near evermeet. that is just my opinion anyways, but we really do need to get a good knowldge of when the heck is it.

P.S Carter finish the new winya, it is said to look alot cooler so get it done.

You assume Evermeet is happy to have lost part of its military strength and population to some small settlement on a human-ruled island. Especially with the island's recent troubles and the slaughter of much of its troops, it has turned inward in its politics and no longer cares about the outside world much. In official capacity, at least. Personal relations between certain individuals are warm.

The relations of elves all around modern Faerûn is fairly warm, in general. The elves of Evermeet feel they are one with the elves of the High Forest, but it doesn't mean they agree with them staying on the mainland or care enough about Faerûnian lands to dispatch much troops in their aid. This is exactly what happened in Last Mythal, no?

My personal preference on timeline is that the campaign in the High Forest has calmed down and Myth Glaurach is taken, but the Crusade has yet to track down the Fey'ri to Cormanthor. And they won't, if I got to say, because the story would then finish differently and Amia would take off from the canon timeline. But this is just speculation, until we settle on anything.

More moon elves, less sun elves, less wood elves, I'd say. Most of the prominent NPCs are moon elves, and that can't be coincidence (though I'll just chalk it up to unimaginative design).

I still would like to know how many people live in winya, I doubt this would consider PCs even if I might. If I know that, then I can do a quick rough estimate of how many elves of each subrace are. so how many elves((all together)), fey, and half-elves live in winya? I do not think there is anything else save maybe animals but that is up for the DMs to decide.

Also what is the subrace of some of the NPCs, like say what of Vilamendel? Amilith? the 2 shop keepers?

The number of fey is unknown. They're most unseen to the elves. They are not numerous. You'd catch a glimpse of sprites amid the branches above, the cackle of nixies by the river, maybe some wild dances of half a dozen or so fauns and one or two dryads at night, but they're not the type to bump into you on the street.

Winya is a town. I guess its size depends on how big the other cities are. I dread to say anything specific, because I don't know the island's overall population. Anything between 400 and 1 800 I guess? Not canon at all.

so it would be a bit unreasonable to say there are a total 2000 elves, fey, and half-elves living in winya?

Yes, yes, you asked that already. I don't know. Vilmandel is a moon elf, and so is Ellaefar. Apparently, Amilith is as well, though I'm not averse to changing that if it's never been part of a story before. Moon elves are a bit over-presented among the NPCs.

okay, though I thought that Amilith was a wood elf.

2,000 population
90% are elves, or about 1800
9% are half-elves, or about 180
1% are fey, or about 20
subraces of elves
47% are wood elves, or about 846
33% are moon elves, or about 594
18% are sun elves, or about 324
2% are wild elves, or about 36

1800 population total
90% are elves, 1620
9% half-elves, 162
1% fey, 18
subraces of elves
47% are wood elves, 761
33% are moon elves, 535
18% are sun elves, 292
2% are wild elves, 32

1,500 population total
90% elves, 1350
9% half elves,135
1% fey,15
elven subraces
47% wood elves,635
33% moon elves,446
18% sun elves,243
2% wild elves, 27

I have to go to my next class, but I shall write up some more estimations when I get home if others actually would like me to do so. all the numbers are estimated, they can be altered of course, but that is what my math has provided.

I reckon there are more slightly moon elves than wood elves. When I said there'd be more wood elves than originally estimated, I thought I estimated the number really low the first time around.

More like 40/35/20/5 Moon/Wood/Sun/Wild as a rough estimate. Pretty much the same as yours I guess, swapping Moon and Wood around. Doesn't really matter all that much, though.

I would wager the number of fey to be bigger. It would just be that they're mostly hidden and keep to themselves, and so not available for counting.

EDIT: Or, yeah, what Iron said a few posts up. Blargh.

I've always viewed Winya as the properous yet quite secluded outpost protected by a strong force of Evermeetian troops.

Being that I'd certainly agree what have already been written by Iron about the population breakdown. The Wood Elves being the most reluctant to heed the retreat back to Evermeet they would be the numerous. The sunnies being there I imagine the armed forces themselves make out a considerable part of that portion as well?

Futhermore such a large armed force settling in the city must have caused a increase in both exports and imports as well as an increased production of various items as well. I am not sure on the actual numbers but I imagine the force numbers at least a few hundreds?

The increase in production I imagine most likely to be in the typical Evermeet products as the Evermeet guards must have supplied both skills and manpower for a more commerical production.

As for the main trading partners that one is a bit iffy. The road to Uhm, Bendir/Cordor, Brogenstein and Kohlingen are all blocked by various monsters making intensive trade problematic. Though judging from their demands and supplies I'd suspect Kohlinngen and Borgenstein being the main trading partners closely followed by Cordor.

The luxuery products which elves are famed for I pretty much assume to be in decline in Cordor considering the revolution and all though offcourse the war affecting Kohlingen have probably made a major impact as well.
As to how the many raw materials from Brogenstein would actually get to Winya... I'd think perhaps they were shipped to Uhm and then transported by cart with armed escort?

Anyhow always thought trade to be an interesting yet sadly often overlooked matter as the ramblings above might have revealed:p

Actually, the company of guards from Evermeet only originally numbered 40 or 20, I forget which we settled for. Not the best elite the island has to offer, lacking magical prowess of their own (bladesingers, divine champions and armored cavalry are probably Evermeet's best troops, apart from the mages and Eagle Riders) but well-trained warriors making a mobile light infantry. No one's kept track of them dying over the years, though, so there might be less.

I imagine Winya has a fairly small full-time military force. Apart from the Evermeet unit, there are some rangers and the like. What they lack in numbers they make up for in quality, and I guess every Winyan scout and guard is better trained than the average human guard. I think Winya lacks the resources to make a signifigant contribution to any campaign outside its borders, whereas the fact that every elf from youth to elder is capable of picking up bow, spear and sword, and the city's position atop steep cliffs, makes it easily defendable.

Oh I'll amend the statement though I still think most of the central points about the trade in general holds I belive?

Though then I am bit puzzled about the Evermeet force uses. If only at best forty warrirors arrived when called for to protect a population of approx. 2000 elves why were they needed? The main bulk of the fighting force must then be made up by the local full time military forces and the citizen levy troops. I may be calculating with a bit too high NPC numbers but it just sounds a bit silly to send a defence force of only 40 rather mudane troops from Evermeet.

Wouldn't that make them more of a symbolic act from the isle that they regard the settlement or in this case the life stone under its protection?

Well, Winya wasn't always that large. It literally appeared out of nowhere, an empty city of old, some RL years ago, which I'd call several decades in game. The troops from Evermeet were dispatched immediately, apparently to guard the settlers and/or the Lifestone. 40 trained warriors, in general, is a pretty strong force. Thunderstone, a village of ~900 people in Cormyr, maintains a garrison of 100 Purple Dragons, for example. Considering that Winya has other protectors, is well situated, and the guards are highly trained, there's little need for more of them, IMO.

They're still pretty kickass troops on Amia's scale. The NPCs are among the best guard NPCs in game. Which isn't necessarily a good thing.

I don't really know about trade. I guess you're right. It's hard to put into perspective without the rest of the island defined.

Eh, i dont really like the idea of counting how many of our guards are offed.. i mean, if someone is on a mission, they can whipe out most of our guards over the corse of a year and then were SOL as far as elite guards go.

Besides, its safe to asume, i think, that any guard killed would warrent a Raise via scroll or Vilmandel. If the body is gone, a True Res from Vilmandel is a possablity too. Though i suppose that dosnt rule out people kidnapping our guards and locking them away tell we dont have anymore. *sigh*

I do agree with that if only because there are only ever 12 Law Knights plus Sir Mark Dorne in "rotation" at any given time, but this is often flagrantly disregarded. >.>

Well, my subtle goal would be to slowly decrease the number of the permahasted über guards with an actual IC explanation to go with it. You can't assume there will always be 40 of them ready to serve at any given time.

Oh, I know, I'm just drawing a correlation between the whole "counting logistics to the man" thing betwene Winya and Cordor.
