No it doesn't. We have no obligation to stand there and observe. Personally, I'm usually off working on these dynamic world-changing events so these people can tell stories about it.

Anyway, a real solution would be for DMs to give DCs individually to people who are telling stories. I know that the times I was there, a lot of people would just go AFK for the entire thing, and come back to a DC or two, just because a DM would swing by and drop one on everyone. What I usually saw was a minority of people actually RPing, and only a small percentile of them providing DC-worthy RP, those being pretty exclusively the story-tellers, and not even all of them.

People shouldn't treat the event as a DC machine though, but rather as an opportunity to share some tales and, in my char's case, get to meet some new folks *shrug*
Well to be honest I'd still swing by Story Night if I am able, DC's or no. I always had a good time when I did and not always did I get these "guaranteed" DC's. Admittedly, I didn't always hang out for the entirety. I don't go to events or roleplay to get DC's, I go because they are fun, and for me Story Night was fun. I say bring it back!

Whether or not you have the opportunity for great RP is totally irreverent. When you don't have that chance during other things, do you say, "I deserve a DC because I could have participated, but didn't have the chance"?

Agreed whole heartedly, give the story tellers DC's and anyone who actively contributes.
Oh and make sure that it doesnt take six hours and that everyone gets chance to their story if they wish.
Seriously, I find it really demotivating that an attempt to bring back a harmless RP event many people enjoyed gets dissed so much. Is there something people won't complain or argue about?

Sadly, no. And because it's the internet, even worse .
This is an event to RP, if DM's give DC's great, if they don't, great. They aren't forced to. Neither is anyone forced to attend.
Uh, yeah. It's really irrelevant to the topic at hand. DMs reward the kind of stuff they want to reward. My gut feeling is that DMs nowadays are less inclined to DC Story Night guests. Or maybe not. It still has nothing to do with voting on a time, which is the topic at hand.

Numbers you dont get DCs because it is really tough for anyone including DMs to appreciate anything you do, because even when you do great you are such a sour person that even the people that try to be your friend sometime question if it is worthy the time. And then you ask, why nobody likes me? Well, that is one of the reasons, you pick a nice tread where people were trying to organize and turn into a selfish discussion about DC.
I think Story Night is great. I have my bard presenting there before. I have heard many fun stories and I had really enjoyable moments of story telling there. And guess what? I didn't get any DCs on it and I didn't care either, because what I enjoy about it is the ability of people to tell stories, their emotes, and all that they can present. Rith once told us a story that made me applaud alone from my chair having loads of giggles. No DC can give me that.
So, please just restrain from comment when you have nothing good to say about things people are trying to do for the good of many people that enjoy that type of thing.

When I first started playing Amia I went to three of those story nights, didn't get a single DC, Heck in a year I've got eight of them and I don't really shy away from role play at all. Does it bother me? No. Sure I'd like two more for something special I had in mind, but waiting for something and doing something for something makes it all the more fun when I finally get it.
(Side note... why am I posting so much here... This can't go right very long *looks around paranoid*)

What's wrong with that? Those who deserve DCs get DCs, and those who spend the entire time AFK sitting there don't.
That said, any DM that supervises gets to make up their own mind about who they DC, and no one else really has the right to tell them who they can and can;t and nor should they be forced to list down everyone who RPd -
surely, if a large amount of people do, it is better to see a couple of people who don't deserve it get one than a couple of people who do miss out by accident.
