The Job System is more or less ready. It will be ready for use in the next update (1.81).
Before you use it read the Job System pages on the sidebar.
Some things have not been properly tested. Some things aren't ready yet. Some things are broken. That will all be fixed/expanded during the next weeks. Don't go all mental if you thinka job is worthless, it will probably get a bit more attention.
Some jobs that are on the attention list:
* Towncrier - needs to be fleshed out a bit, especially the back office.
* Alchemist, Inventor, Herbalist - the products they make aren't that flashy yet.
* Carpenter - Is going to make instruments.
Herbalist also has a few hidden recipes. Not sure what to do with those yet.
Resources that need to be created or changed
* Dates, figs, and other tropical products in Khem
* A better distribution of almost anything
I guess the best thing is to let you play with this for a month. I'll then put some PLC in the Entry that allows you to reset your jobs once. DMs can also reset you if needed.
I will make two threads in Things to Change, one for bugs and one for suggestions. Mind that I won't add many more jobs. Refining, debugging, and expanding the current batch is the priority now.

I am soooo looking forward to signing up for this when I get home from work.
For those who havent thought about it in detail, I'll point out that you can get the following distribution of job ranks at max level:
321
31111
2221
221111
21111111
1111111111
A note on the Minstrel - looks like you can only use it near a Minstrel instructor, which probably means in theatres. Havent been to the Cordor Festival Grounds lately, but if there isnt one standing by the stage, there should be.
Also recall that Performers need Perform, but Beggars dont!
I think Xavi's going to go with Masseur 2, Preacher 2, Herbalist 2 & Performer 1.

Can you grab preacher if your deity field is empty?
According to a previous chicken-post, Yes, but you cant spawn an altar.

No clue. Same question would apply for regular praying at idols and such. The only way this should happen is if DMs alignment-shift you and dont check if the deity still matches, I would think, because you cant pick a deity in the first place if your alignment is wrong.

I assume you probably filled in the deity field manually at character creation in regards to your second question?
As for the first question, you should chose one deity even if say you worship two or three equally. I'm sure spawning alters for multiple gods would just be too complex to program on NWN.

I wasn't talking about multiple deities ... just not being able to let others pray to the god I get my spells off because of my alignment. It's not a problem, just wanted to see if there was a way around it ... if not, Theologian it is.

Out of curiosity, since i haven't been able to find it myself and saw on the pdf thing explaining the job system that was posted a while ago that it wasn't finished, is the fletching profession in and working? I found places for making stuff still haven't found a trainer for it.

I'm confused. How is the Demonologist job supposed to work, Specifically? You cannot use it in combat, as it is a dialogue, to "observe" demons (attempted to do so earlier). And when approaching a research desk, an item of some sort is supposed to be placed within. Are there books/items I get from other places to research? If so... where?

I managed to use t on the demons in the Abyss (but I needed paper ) .. hang around invisible and use it.

Just a question ... if paper is so rare (the amount of people producing it is low), what are the notes on the notice board made from? If they're from parchment, why aren't they being used to make spell scrolls?

Re: Hexx's post: Are we already discussing abuse of the job system?
Suggestion: Level 3 dairy farmer, level 1 drink trader, level 2 ingredients trader. This way you are entirely self-supporting. To make this run more smoothly you need to have at least two friends that are max level with the same "build". I assume you have these two friends.
The idea: XP is generally good for level 3 standard rolls. Dairy farmers get two standard rolls where others get only one, because they are refiners for their own products or can buy these products from others as well. Then you sell things off at Level 2, to basically get standard rolls according to Level 3/Level 3/Level 2 from 1 of your own resources. (Some other jobs also get to process stuff twice, but many do not.)
NB: This is theory only. I don't have a dairy farmer, so I'm not entirely sure how this will work.
"How to be an Archmage over Night!"
Step 1: Speedies. Then take Dairy farmer 1, drink trader 1. Everyone spawns cows (that's about 7 cows). Put up your NPC merchant box. All of you milk as much as you can, all sell the milk to your box. This gives you xp rolls for milking and also many more xp rolls for what the other ones are doing! Step 2: After a while you will be Level 9. Take Dairy farmer 2. Spawn more cows. More Milk. From now on, keep the milk in your infinite storage. Buy all milk from your friends (the price is 12gp or something, don't cheat!). Take one of your buddies and make butter with all that milk (that's a lot of xp from THEIR milk as well). Sell the butter to your friend's NPC chest (that should pay for the milk and maybe a little more). Step 3: You're suddenly Level 18. Take Dairy farmer 3. More cows and more butter. Master xp from milking your own cows and master xp from ALL the milk again when you make butter. Step 4: You're Level 21. Take Ingredients trader 1. Cows, butter. Sell self-made butter to your own NPC chest, no need to take that buddy with you any longer. That gives you a little more money and a little more xp. Still you would want the others to sell their milk exclusively to you. Step 5: You're Level 27. Dairy farmer 3, drink trader 1, ingredients trader 2. Continue a little longer as before (or start helping a low-level which will also take you to level 30 just from milking for hours). Step 6: You've reached Level 30.
-----------------
Now ... math: Level 1 standard roll gives about 19 xp on average, including failure and bonus. Level 2 standard roll is 45 xp. Level 3 standard roll is 89 xp.
I don't know what the cool-down on the cows is. I asssume 2 minutes.
Step 1: (Dairy 1, Drink 1) You get 19 xp every two minutes yourself. Meanwhile your two friends produce 5.4 milks every 2 minutes from their 6 cows. So with your 0.5 milk/2 minutes, that's roughly 6 milks / 2 minutes. That's another 114 xp with the drink trader. So you're gaining 133 xp in 120 seconds. You need Level 9 before this improves, that's 33000 xp ... That's 8 hours of grinding cows. Oh well. Step 2: (Dairy 2, Drink 1) You have two cows and each gives 45 xp and 0.7 milks per 2 minutes. Your friends still provide 5.4 milks, so you're close to 7 milks and 90 xp / 2 minutes. Now you want to spend 5 minutes to make tons of butter ... That's another 45 xp for each of the milks, so comes out to an additional 315 xp / 2 minutes of milking. So you're making about 400 xp / 2 minutes. Not too shabby. Level 18 is 117k xp away. That's another 10 hours of grinding. Step 3: (Dairy 3, Drink 1) You're gaining 267 xp and 2.7 milks / 2 minutes. Your friends give you another 5.4 milks. That's 8 milks / 2 minutes. 8 attempts to make butter is another 712 xp / 2 minutes. That's 979 xp / 2 minutes. You want Level 21, that's 57k xp away. That's 2 hours of grinding. Step 4: (Dairy 3, Drink 1, Ingredients 1) You're still gaining 979 xp / 2 minutes from milk and butter. Now you can also sell the maybe 6 butters you make for 114 xp. Up to 1093 xp / 2 minutes. You want Level 27, that's 141 k away. That's only 4 and a half hour. Step 5: (Dairy 3, Drink 1, Ingredients 2) Selling butter gives you a little more xp now. You make 1249 xp / 2 minutes of grinding. Level 30 is only 84k xp away, that's less than 2 and a half hour.
Total time: 28 hours for you and your two level 30 buddies for pushing you legally to level 30 without ever seeing a monster. The time almost scales linearly in the number of friends you have, so this can be used to easily build up an army of dairy farmers. Epic weapon focus pitchfork included.
The interesting part really happens when you have level 3 dairy farmer, so here at level 18. It takes just 9 hours to reach level 30 from there! That seems quite good to me.
Pros: * Absolutely no risk. * Anyone can do it. * Level 30s can help low-levels "legally", no twinking, no anything. * XP is really good from level 18 on. * Even faster with even more friends. Bring 10 friends and you could be level 30 within two resets ...
Cons: * Only one guy gains a lot of xp (that's kind of the point, though). * You don't get loot and you don't make any money. * Might be a bit boring for everyone involved ...
Of course, if dairy farmer works differently than I thought, then file this under PHAIL.
Regards, Ts
I thought this'd be a better place to post my question ... is this right? Would it work?

Even if it would work, what then? Should the xp be lessened or make the timer much longer and such?
It's like archers using placables as a blocking object, nothing can be done about it except punish whoever would use the system abusively, imho.
The alternative would be punishing everybody else.
Did I at any point state my dislike for the idea, or insinuate that there should be less xp given, or even that such actions would be against the philosophy of the job system?
I was just asking confirmation if that is possible, and if possible if it is allowable.

I made some similar calculations when the job system was being discussed. I'm sure you could probably do this, or something similar. On the other hand, you and those few friends could probably spend that 28 hours grinding monsters (if you're one o' them powerbuilder types ) for only slightly more effort and presumably rather more fun, and all of you could reach 30th in that time and get a lot of cool loot and loads of cash to boot.

The Job system is meant to be a viable alternative to grinding.
But some jobs fare much better on the xp / time scale than others. Maybe for a reason these jobs don't give a lot of money, though. You never know with that chicken ...
Anyway, yeah, 28 hours (actually 64 man-hours) for level 1-30 is a long time. As has been said, you could take an entire party of 3 from 1 to 30 in that time. A good hunting party will be much better.
But if your friends don't have chars that are within +- 5 of your char, then the job system can be really helpful. I think the best use is to cover the stretch from level 20-25, before you can run with half the server again.
Fine, if we get swamped with dairy farmers, I'll put my hands up and admit it - but honestly I rather like the differences. So it's not perfectly balanced? Meh so what?

Good point. I saw some people in some usual empty places. Simply because the Job System took them there. Me like.
