We're looking into OOC restrictions on items, removing those that aren't justified and leaving those that are.
First, though, we need a list of everything with an OOC restriction on it. Do not bother with the Deity Rings, though.
Dev Disco wrote: For shop or specific critter drops I need: name, item type so I can find it on the palette, shop name For loot bin stuff I need: name, item type so I can find it in an inventory, loot bin
The difference between the item types is that I need to know "Bastard Sword" for the palette (or for example "Plot" for plot items), while just "Sword" would be enough to find it quickly in an inventory. Just gimme something to focus on in the latter case, that will be enough.
So, if you want to help in Amia's developement (what a cheap way to get others do the dirty work!), you can start two lists:
One with OOC restricted items in shops or specific critters: Name - Item Type - Shop.
Another with OOC restricted items in the loot bins: Name - Item Type - Loot Bin
Not everyone can access every OOC restricted item, so this is how it works as a group effort:
Copy the most recent list in the thread, edit it to add your own discoveries, and post it. At the end, we should have a complete and flawless list on our hands. Make sure you add the current restriction!
As I said, don't bother with Deity Rings (Edit: or AA arrows). Other than that, go nuts. You get to be a part of something great!

Just ask yourself this question first: is this restriction justified? For instance, I think that at least half the restrictions in the Grove shop can go. There's no gameplay reason why people can't use an ironwood shield, there's no IC reason why people can't use an ironwood shield, so there shouldn't be an OOC restriction.

You obviously don't have to list individual items in your inventory, if that was your question. Do list everything in shops or as loot, though.
Let's say this right away: AA arrows will keep their restriction, so they need not be listed.
We haven't made up our minds about, well, anything else yet. Might as well be thorough now that we're doing it.

What about some of the unique harper scout items they can craft? Are the OOC restrictions in place to prevent some player make a HS and distribute his stuff among his OOC buddies?

here is a question do the yath armor counts as ooc restrictions, for they say if i am not mistaken exactly this "NOTE: for clerics of Lolth only" So I am not sure if it even has the ooc restriction. I will take a look when I get home to see what items have the ooc restrictions.

That's clearly an OOC restriction, yes. It's not an IC note tacked on the back of the armor.
As for the HS stuff, I don't know. I bet some enterprising HS will know and come post them here if it's relevant.

Those come to mind: the ring is neglectable, the chime is not that useful but the death ward item is definately nifty. I am not for nor against this OOC restriction, I merely bring it up for discussion and I am curious why they were made OOC HS only in the first place.

Incidentally, what override are you using for those awesome looking boxes?
EDIT: They were made Harper Scout only IIRC to prevent them from being passed around/sold, yeah. I don't claim to be a know it all when it comes to Harpers, but I don't think that's something they do!

+5 AC boots in the Tarkuul shop. why OOCly restricted to one particular class? I could see 'evil' but are they special priest slippers? There's no logical reason for it.
I dislike the OOC restrictions at all.. except for some very rare exceptions.
WM weapon restrictions are one of those.
Deity rings are another.

Any occ restriction that is reasoned by that item would not be sold to outsiders fails as soon as a PC buys it and tries to pass it on.

That is why Arcane Archers rarely give arrows away for people they dont know. And when they do, they never give all they have. At least the AAs I know.
It preserves the specialty of the class, promote the need of arcane archers to integrate with other Arcane Archers. It becomes a secret of the class, something that is special, made by them for them, as any society of specialized things should do. I am still listing all I find. But, I would think that many of the things I am adding here should keep restrictions to preserve the class using them. They could be sneaked into the black market. But, no good aligned person or lawful person should ever buy in the black market anyway. I know it gives an advantage to people that are neutral or evil, well same happens in reality.
EDIT: I am slowly moving things to one unique list and adding the details Disco need. I am only leaving my comments.
I would think Shadowdancers would take pride on preserving their items for them to use only and they would mostly kill people selling those. But, I think they could be found in the black market as well so not sure about removing or leaving the restrictions on.
Actually I think it would be interesting that elves would kill people using AA arrows without being arcane archers, as being an insult to their knowledge. So shadowdancers should with people using their equipment. It would be just too difficult to distinguish them, so maybe the restrictions exist because of it, destroying the possibility of a black market based RP scene.
Hidden rogue store in the Winya area:
Why doesnt he buy stolen goods? <.< He is a rogue for God's sake.
EDITED: All items I described added to the first list.

The SD restrictions are mainly for OOC reasons, IIRC. Some of it is really good and is meant to offset the fact that taking more than 6 levels in SD is really just handicapping yourself.

Some of the arrows explicitly say that unless you're an AA, they're worthless +0 pointy sticks, some hint at it and I admit I got bored of saying so over and over when I first made them, so after the first few I just reckoned the AA's would get the point, therefore many don't mention it at all.
But, for every single one:
All of the AA arrows are OOCly restricted for the simple reason that UMD does not allow you to imbue arrows with magic. Unless you can do that, the arrows are actually worse than mundane ones from the Cordor Fletcher. You can have 127 UMD, but you still won't be able to supply the magic that makes the arrows work.

I think the restricitons on the Salandran based armour makes sense. You wouldnt have anything but a Cleric, Pally, COT walking round in religious armour. This could probally be said the same for the weapons due to the religious symbol that they hold within the church?

I disagree. Remove them.
Also remove the SD stuff, or actually add rogue items to the module. >.>

The Grove stuff is -meant- to be for Druids and Rangers only. Why would the Druids and Rangers let outsiders use their Ironwood and other sacred items? I think that stuff should be left alone, personally.
Same with the Bendir Dale stuff. It's made small. The larger races shouldn't be able to us it. Hin, Gnomes and maybe Dwarves. But not anyone else. Okay, maybe Elves and Drow because they have sissy little girlie bodies

But let's assume they do get ahold of them. (because they can and do, let's be realistic.) What mystical force stops them from wearing Ironwood armor? Hell, what stops a mundane fighter from making ironwood armor if he gets the ironwood?
Nothing.
EDIT: Re: small sizes. Magic items are specifically stated to be able to size up and down to within 2 sizes of the base item size as made by creator.

There is a difference between class restrictions and OOC restrictions, btw. As far as I am concerned, class restrict whatever you want. The privilege of UMD is that you can fool any item, even holy items, into thinking you are deserving to wield them or use their power; if you are neither smart nor talented (nor metagamey) enough to pick up ranks in it, you don't deserve the full gambit.
The only thing I prefer OOC restrictions on is WM weapons, for obvious reasons.
Deity rings? No OOC restrictions whatsoever. As far as I am concerned, the gods are too busy with the latest season of All My Avatars and As Toril Turns drama to give a damn about investing genuine divine favor into a collector's set of rings that some enterprising merchant mass-produced and mass-marketed to the adventuring community for purely secular profit.
However, there may be some rings floating around that do have the interest of the gods...
...as DM quest rewards. Not as random loot.

Ironwood is kept Ironwood by a Druidic spell. There's no such thing as "Ironwood", as in, a tree of Ironwood or anything like that. Ironwood is a Druid spell. It has to be kept going with a fresh spell everyday. The fact that people will meta using it anyway shouldn't really matter, should it? People meta fighting in front of guards but that doesn't stop being a rule. ::shrug::
As for the Bendir stuff: I didn't know that it can be reside and all that so I bow out of that one.

I think it would be a IC restriction imposed by the players on the items. I think I even changed my mind as I read this topic. I think the OOC restriction is silly, that we should have IC restrictions. If someone with a high enough UMD can get hold of a longbow for elves only, let him use it and elves need to learn how to make their things less available.
But, to take off the restrictions in the items. The Salandran temple merchant by the crafting table should not sell the armors Salandrans made to honor their God. I think some more restrictive items should be like the merchant in the Grove, where the option for certain things are for druid/rangers only.
Shadowscape main store for Shadowdancers are a very restrictive area as well. If you want to sell it in the black market good, but somehow I would vote that a code was created, IC of course, so anyone selling those products openly would suffer penalties from the academy of shadowdancers. Maybe even a bounty for this person's head. Same with the arrows for arcane archers and many other things that are very specific for a group.
And if that is the case of ironwood, shouldnt we get a widget to do so in spite of having weapons and armors made of something that doesn't exist?

Actually, it is Permanencied on in the creation process so that anyone can use it. Truefact.

Keep in mind, that part of the problem is that we cannot have an unlimited selection of items in the module.
However, different classes may benefit from the same things on an item. So, the choices remain as:
1) allow the item that IS in the mod, to be used by anyone who might benefit from it.
2) create and add into the mod 20 different copies of any given item (such as an ironwood shield), with different ooc restrictions on each, so that other classes have a fair and equal selection.
3) Leave things alone as they are, which means leaving in place a rather unfair system, in many causes brought about by old dm's or their friends getting things that would benefit them into the module.
Yeah it's cool if a druid has a special druid only item. But it's not cool if someone else could use that same item, but is restricted oocly from doing so, thus being forced to spend dc's to get what a druid can get for mere gold.
DC's are for the cool special unique custom items.

This, the OOC restrictions make it difficult if you have devoted most of your character to Rogue and then discover that there aren't any high level rogue items, only SD and Assassin.

Barak Runedar in general. Either move the store outside the fortress, or make it possible for everyone to gain access.
The dwarf's are a bunch of rude, racist bastards, so it makes it near impossible for melee classes whom don't adhere to there rules to get decent items.

Maybe removing the OOC restriction by adding some of the aforementioned items to the rouge shop. Maybe with a certain UMD requirement added to it.

I'm afraid pure Rogues get screwed over by the majority of people who take 1 Rogue level and dump a bunch of ranks into UMD. It makes it hard to add good items for the class when so many people use it for cheese purposes and only cheese purposes. Ironically, you could alleviate this by rewarding pure or even pure-ish Rogues with OOC restriction items that require [x] Rogue levels.

I agree with this ... remove the OOC restrictions an SD stuff - I can understand the store only being able to be ICly accessed by SD's, but the items themselves shouldn't have the restrictions.

IMO the idea of Rogue only items is even sillier. Rogues have UMD innate, so the idea of something that only a Rogue can wear when Rogues are UMDers... I dunno, something just strikes me as "off" there.

That's why theres the Level restriction.
Just because we have UMD doesn't mean we shouldn't have items for -us-. Sure, a bunch of people skill dump on a rogue level, a good number of them even take the UMD skill on that dump. But that doesn't mean that they should instantly be able to use items made for -actual- rogues.

I'd be convinced of this OOC restriction... if it were for 30 fighters instead.

I'd be even less convinced. What make s alevel 30 fighter so much better at than a WM, or a DwD, or a CoT, or a *whatever*?

Well, for one, fighter that multiclass in those 3 or other classes will actually be better than a 30 fighter, but I digress. I was just taking a poke at the idea of a rogue-only OOC restriction, not necessarily advocating OOC restriction for pure fighters or any other class for that matter.

I think they want OOC restrictions for IC reasons, not OOC ones.

I dunno if I agree with all the WM restrictions, myself... but that's simply because I just don't think a lot of the WM-restricted items are all that more powerful than other not-WM-restricted items. I could order those items easily with like 10 or 15 DCs upgraded to a mythalled longsword or something, right? Or do you have to be a WM to have any powerful/cool weapon?
Just kinda seems weird to me that I can order DC items that are more powerful than WM-restricted items. Probably even some in-game that aren't restricted and are more powerful.. eh.

Disco, is it easier to have them split up by store, like I did? I worked on the assumption you'd have to go into each merchant in the toolset, rather than via the item palettes because of the stupid way it stores their inventories separately.

No, shops are spawning from the palette themselves. Only the lootbins arfe completely independent from the palette. In other words: I rather look for shop items by item type, and I have to browse a long list of unsorted stuff in the bins (so some visual description would be handy).
I asked the shops bit as background info.
Don't worry about the mess, Iron will make a nice list for me.

Righto. It does it oddly in my toolset in my character build module, then. Maybe because I tend to make items by modifying standard ones direct when I'm making the merchant?

I'd just like to point out that if the logic of WM gear only is because of directing ki, shouldn't the same logic apply to monk stuff, or even more so?
