Question relating to the epic boss spawning change in 1.90

Now, I am not someone who goes out epic hunting a lot, but i just want clarification on the change.

Say I go with a party of 4, and beholder majesty spawns for us. Is that our once a reset for all 4, or just one?

If its for all 4, what if one person runs in, spawns it, then parties up and we all take it down, clear the lair again, rest and repeat.

However, if what i just said is considered an exploit of the system, feel free to delete it from my post.

It's per character,a nd a spawntrigger won't be triggered if a character that reached his quotum walks on to it. So, a party of 4 can spawn the boss 4 times (respecting the usual 15 mins break and spawn failure chance, of course).

Its a nice change. Unfortunately those people without epic loot are kinda screwed. Most people who got their epic loot got it by farming bosses in the first place. Now its limited to once a reset meaning newcomers now have little chance of getting their hands on epic loot.

Given more thought, I guess on the flipside, there will be that much less epic loot coming into the playerbase anyway so yeah, great change. I just wish this one had come in sooner!

Does the spawn failure count against your 'one spawn'?

I'd rather it just be a one time per reset with guaranteed spawn.

And how do we know if its a missed spawn or everyone's quota is used?

Uh....you ought to be able to remember if you've fought the boss during the reset or not. Same for whomever else is in your group?

So if you haven't, then I guess it'd be a failed spawn.

This is a good thing.
As a farmer, with a respectable hoard (thinning it out amongst the deserving), this is a very good thing.

Less loot. Less super equipped people.
I fail to see a problem.

Now if we got rid of spell components for cash deductions...

:D

I agree, it is a good thing. I can put up with it, likely because even before this, i would Kill an Epic boss a few times a week, to once everyday, upto three a day at the most, each time spread out. So it's not really any different to me, since usually, if it were more than once it was after resets.

Less people to be worried about running around showing off their epic items, which they just spent four hours of grinding to get is a guurrd thing methinks. :D

If you get a failed spawn the 15 min timelock goes in, but it isn't counted against your quotum.

Hey, at least you don't have to repeatedly kill placeholders* in the hopes of eventually spawning a creature with stuff you want. Showing up (and not having killed the boss already that reset) is sufficient to get a boss to spawn.

*Placeholders are creatures that spawn instead of the creature that you want, to make you have to do work to make the fecker spawn in. A fiendish concept devised by MMO developers to make rare stuff highly-prized and rare.

I like this change, although that time-block is going to be an arse - I thought it was in there to stop people from farming? Since they can't farm anymore, wouldn't it be better just to give one certain spawn instead?

15 minutes isn't long enough to stop someone doing the trip, it just meant you couldn't camp out at the spawn. You could go kill the ASB, drop by to Maxi, run up to Kraven's midget replacement and then head back to the ASB quite easily in 15 minutes.

None-the-less it never bothered me that people farmed them till death. Honestly I couldn't think of anything more boring then doing the epic boss tour every reset (except leveling characters) and if it makes epic loot alot rarer then hell it's a good thing. It doesn't disadvantage me as a cleric at all considering all my gear can be turned from +2 loot bin to epic material easily.

Though I am yet to get epic loot on any of my characters, I'm assuming this is a good thing based on the other comments of everyong having a few hundred epic loot from boss grinding.

I am really worried this makes Epic Loot even harder to liquidate but I'll keep my hopes up.

I seriously doubt that it will matter for non-bossfarmers at all. I think my PC's combined kill 0-2 epic bosses a week (when I haven't got the flu). 1.90 doesn't make it less probable for "ordinary" adventurers to get their hands on blingin' spoils.

While I like the idea in theory, I do have to point out a few things.

People have been complaining for a long time about Epic loot costing millions of GP, meaning that only the richest of the rich can afford to purchase any. Simple supply and demand means that this change will force up the price of those items enough so that Yoss is the only person on the server capable of buying them.

I'm really getting tired of hearing about how all Epics are multimillionaires because it simply isn't true, and this solution will do nothing to change the status quo other than make the already rich richer. For every multimillionaire Epic on the server there's dozens of others that have never even seen 1 million GP and likely never will, especially since their only opportunity to acquire items they can sell for large amounts, which comes in the course of regular leveling and not camping on Boss spawns, has been so severely curtailed.

This just seems to me like a way to curb the activities of, at most, a couple of dozen people, in all timezones, at the expense of the entire playerbase.

The better solution would be to find a way to prevent players from acquiring Epic loot unless they have killed the spawns on the way to the Boss. In my experience, Boss farmers do not kill spawns, they just run to the Boss room in GS, kill the boss and move on to the next Boss to do the same thing. It is a physical impossibility to kill ASB, Maxi, and that undead guy, that nobody ever seems to recall the name of, in under 15 minutes without the use of GS or something similar. Punish those people, not the rest of us that spend up to an hour reaching the Boss room because we fight our way there.

There's always the random DM quests, which might result in some epic lewt being handed out. You never know!

It's the usual 15 mins block that's on any spawn.

I shall try my best even under the new system to keep the supply of epic loots up sir. :)

That's not the loop people do anyways.

Maxi -> ASB -> Pirate -> Darkness -> Pirate -> ASB -> Pirate -> Darkness repeat

And it's Bidoc the Black.

You could more or less do that by having each group of minions have one part of a key or token or such, distributed at random. A certain number of keys parts or tokens or such will let you (you meaning a party of six, tops) pass into the boss area.

Once you've used the key it gets eated, and once the boss is defeated and looted everyone in the area gets punted back out. If you want to fight the boss again you have to kill the cannon fodder troops again.

These keys or tokens or whatever need not actually be loot items, they could be set as a 'party variable' which means that you wouldn't be able to hoard key parts or tokens, but if you split a party or someone suffers connection loss everyone would retain progress. Leaving the area or going through a server reset would be what clears this variable.

I've never been to any of these boss areas so I dunno how do-able this is or whether it needs to be done, I'm just saying that from a coding point of view it's possible.

I know, but random spawns can be spawned more than once per person - epic bosses cannot, so wouldn't it make sense just to have it auto-spawn if it hasn't been spawned?

Oh, unless that means it would spawn for everyone at once / immediately after the previous one's death.

Either way, I like the new approach.

The loop that people do is not the point. The point is that people run to the Boss in GS/Invis thus avoiding all spawns, kill it and then go and do the same to the next.

I have seen people do it. Among others I have seen someone enter the Beholders in GS, run to Majesty and then exit the area in GS all in under one minute (and when my party got to the Boss room we found that the usual spawns were there, near the door meaning he only attacked the Majesty). This enables them to get, I dunno, 50 Boss kills per reset compared to a party that can do maybe 10 kills of the same Boss in the same time because they actually fight their way there.

They are the people that have dozens of pieces of Epic loot. They are the people that need to have the brakes put on them, not those of use that actually take the time and effort to reach the Boss in the hopes of reward.

As I said earlier, I couldn't think of anything more boring then boss killing and character leveling, it reminds me of going to work and doing the same old data entry all day. If they find enjoyment in it, best to not throw stuff at them for it.

As I said earlier aswell, being a cleric player I'm not affected by this change at all. I can turn my Laeral's Storm Armour which I got in the mylock caves, my invincible shield which I bought in Shadowscape and my Thousand Needles morningstar which I bought in Brog into epic loot with none of the risks involved.

And those are the people we've stopped. Joe Party Members tjhat go through the beholders here and there adnd then check out the illithid here and there or maybe go fight some sahuagin will notice no changes.
