Alrighty, well I have a character which is an expert of mind manipulation who just so happens to likes to be pretty evil and would very much like to spread some good old fashioned chaos.
For example, making a brain dead orc attack a guard prehaps?
Or maybe something not so harsh.
However, roleplaying domination is hard as nails, normally the person I have just dominated seems to think they have godly powers of negation, I would understand if they make a save or pop a mindblank etc.
Would this be a good idea or a bad idea Mr.DM?

To give my 2 cents, it is a bad idea because trying to get someone to play their character in a way that is not completely their way will typically get you nothing but grief. Many players are uncomfortable with their characters being mortal and not winning at nearly every turn. There are exceptions, certainly, but don't plan on finding one.
I would offer that having a character whose concept is based on dominating PCs is a scrappable project in this environment.

I'm not a DM, so feel free to ignore me, but the lore of Dominate Monster is that it goes kerplooey any time you ask the subject to do anything they really don't want to do.
The person that decides what's on that list of things is not you; it's the player of the character under Domination. Their definition of 'really doesn't want to do' may be very different from yours, but their judgement gets precedence.
The biggest bone of contention is whether a character would really want to stand there while the mage then tosses damage spells onto them. I'm in the 'Don't Be Stupid: Of Course Not! *guzzles Mindblank*' school of thought.
I'd be inclined to say that playing a Chaotic character, normally the easiest RP choice, should have the downside that there's far more things you could be commanded to do that you're whimsical enough to give a try just for the giggles.
But, you might find that the player of a Chaotic Neutral anti-authority trickster nonetheless decides that his boy would never ever want to spit in a guard's face and have that command break Domination. Meh.
Equally, you'd have to a git of a mage to begrudge a Paladin of Ilmater the right to break out of it for that same reason.
All you can really do is shop around players until you find one who's on the same wavelength as you.

It doesn't break domination, but every time they do something that they normally wouldn't do, they receive another save.
Quote: Subjects resist this control, and any subject forced to take actions against its nature receives a new saving throw with a +2 bonus. Obviously self-destructive orders are not carried out. Once control is established, the range at which it can be exercised is unlimited, as long as you and the subject are on the same plane. You need not see the subject to control it. Quote: Once you have given a dominated creature a command, it continues to attempt to carry out that command to the exclusion of all other activities except those necessary for day-to-day survival (such as sleeping, eating, and so forth). Because of this limited range of activity, a Sense Motive check against DC 15 (rather than DC 25) can determine that the subject’s behavior is being influenced by an enchantment effect (see the Sense Motive skill description).
As we can see, it also becomes increasingly obvious that the character is not moving undder their own power, so to speak.

Ah thank you for all the feedback!
This idea seems to require a willing person to be dominated and probabily under DM suprvision, if somehow I could find somebody who doesn't mind being dominated which probabily wont happen.
I'll keep this is mind then for when I try to roleplay a domination, ofcourse only with willing players ^^
Edit: If for example, a warrior type was to want to break my character, using domination (like dominate humanoid, creature etc) and assuming they fail the save, would it be it safe to assume that i could make them simply turn and walk away, maybe even apologise if my evil nature come in?

Apologise, not so sure.
Making them turn away instead, that would rather be possible as far as I can tell.
Sorta like the jedi mind trick: I am not worth your attention.
Still gives them ample opportunity to play it out and what not.

Someone tried to dominate my character once and I totally disliked it. I could have gone with it, because Delarwyn's will save is quite poor. But, the thing was just pissing me off. So, it will depend of the situation, it will depend if you ask me first to enter your role play in spite of making me have to go with it while I am in my way to something else.
There are other people playing dominate in game and if you do use it, please be sensitive to what the other player have to say, dont just say: Look, I am a freaking good mage and you cannot save against my spell. I will be obedient and go with it for the duration of the spell in game. I wont keep role playing, depending of the case, after it runs off.

The way I see it is that if you cast a Dominate Person or Animal on another PC, it counts as a PnP spell, because you can't just look at the NWN mechanics. So this action must be approved by the victim beforehand.
That said, I think Domination has its uses. As long as it is used by a responsible player -with- (not to) another responsible player, the results can make for a good story and/or character altering events.
It just can't be applied with "OOC force", because then it seems all rotten. DM supervision is a plus, I'd say.

Alright, thanks for this feedback again.
I'd never just jump into something like that, much the same as pvp, i'm not too hot with the meele, just a defence.
I'll scrap the chaos plan I had and just get back to epic loot grinding then, thanks again!

oh? so if you cannot dominate people you go grinding? Is that the only RP you can afford to entertain yourself with?
I think you still can do many things that cause chaos. Maybe find some buddies to do it. So many things could be done.. Qirlan was pure chaos wherever he went and I didnt see him dominating people, actually once with another girl that was doing so for him. But, not usually. Your character can just hate a group, lets say Triadic Knights and bring loads of trouble to them. Abduct one, kill another, make a mole to spy on their actions. Maybe participate of one of the factions and create trouble with another faction.
It is not because you cannot go one way that there are no other ways to go.

Turn people against each other by spreading IC rumors, or telling the opposite one that the other is saying certain things about them. RP strong hatred toward certain Races, Factions or Religions. These can all bring chaos.

Chaos is not fun, neither is random evil. I'd say that if one comes up with a great plan where the only goal is spread chaos for chaos's sake, ditch it and think of something else.

I wouldn't say Dominate falls under PnP spells, because its description is quite clear in NWN as well, and it's common sense. How exactly it works, that's a matter of PnP mechanics and therefore the details should be agreed to by both parties. I don't know; it shouldn't ever be an issue, because why on earth would you try to dominate and RP with someone who's an utter jerk you don't get along with?
It's really just rolling with the punches. You shouldn't get to say your character wasn't dominated, just because you're not comfortable with it. It's a world where everyone is a target for anyone, and you need to get over your discomfort to play the game. Amia shouldn't be an RP-lite server where you can pick what RP you want to acknowledge and what you want to ignore, based on your personal comfort, IMO.
Domination is PvP anyway, and therefore your PC will never be dominated before you're given a chance to back down from the PvP. Beyond that, it's just rolling with the punches.
"Random" evil can be fun, too. Anything that provokes a reaction is good, at least in that it provokes a reaction. It's more a matter of where it goes from there and how it ends. I can't really say in advance whether something would be fun or not, until I see how it's played out.

I was wondering what is the cool/fun part about Dominate RP. It is really fun for one dude because he gets to play two characters. The other players reverts to watching a movie.
That is how I see it at least...

The key thing with anything like "dominate", is that rp should always be fun for everyone involved.
I've been dominated once only, and it started out as amusing, and I went along happily, but then became utterly ridiculous, and significantly un-fun, at which point I put an end to it.
It comes under the heading of "just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you SHOULD".
Fun for everyone should ALWAYS be part of any rp action you take, to the extent possible.

Only time when I ever used domination spells was with my Drow, for some interogation.
Asked beforehand too if it would be ok, and that the length of the domination spell could/should be rped longer, because its over far to fast for any interogation.
Also the wording: "Answer the next questions truthfully. " left the player with a lot of room, I mean, if it goes against his character can he break free and i might not even notice.
Don't think everyone had fun, but no one was bothered. Its the Drow way, they could've been heretics and what not. They weren't. though.
Whatever.

I charmed people for fun, and of course I told them ahead the time and they said, sure that could be fun. Then, i went ahead.. Some chose to stay even after the spell ran away. But, it was a joke, everyone participated and such. Same with domination, but dominate makes you a bit of mindless for a bit, that kind of sucks if the person that is dominating dont play it in agreement with the dominated taste.
I am never saying dont use. I am only say have taste and above all ask oocly to do things that may not be of the taste of the dominated.

Domination is a tricky spell to implement in nwn. And as others also have pointed it out, it is simply vital that if used it happens with a good level of understanding between both caster and victim.
Without such an understanding it can easily become a very messsy afair and as it is a pnp spell the victim mostly have the upper hand. Though as it have also been pointed it can be the logical consequence of actions taken by your characters.
It is very tricky playing an evil character on online nwn server. What I find really important to remember when you dabble in the "dark arts" it is people you are interacting with. You are both playing amia to have a good time. Having this in mind it is quite obvious why things like player killing or griefing is against the rules; It simply ruins the players targted's fun.
On the other hand, having the rule of nemisis or some well carried out and rped crimes can actualyl be interesting and rewarding for both sides. To give an example; If you are pickpocked by a limb and fat goblin in South Cordor as it related the story of how it once was the Coronal of Myth Drannor I would enjoy it. Enjoy it because of the effort said goblin have put into making it enjoyable for both sides.
To sum it up; evil can boon to both the one playing evil and the one the evil dude interacts with. Just remember it is actual people who very likely care about their characters you are interacting with. It is not a spawned monster that can be killed at a whim. Being considerate and nice oocily oftens yields the best ic results.

Curious about this... I actually think I remember many other DMs claiming that it was more of an RP-lite server. Unless a DM is there to watch over the events and OOCly enforce this idea (or perhaps if the whole situation is screenshotted, and enforced by a DM LATER), isn't it rather impossible to instill in the populace of Amia to be okay with RP that they're not okay with? Heh.

I think Tormy will kill you for that :P
But at any rate, I like Dominate being used like the PnP version, but most people will ignore it - they even drink pots of mindblank in the middle of PvP, because winning is more important than RP (yes, there is sarcasm there).
Wasn't it suggested earlier preventing drinking pots and such when under the effects of dominate?

I don't think so. Haven't we heard at times the DMs say they've tried to instigate some sort of plot with random adventuring players who would then ignore it or would send them Tells that they would rather keep hunting without the DM interference? More often than not? To me that tends to qualify Amia towards the RP-lite end of the scale. (At least in general... I don't, myself, fall into that RP-lite...)
Anyway, that wasn't really my point. The point was moreso how to go about instilling in people that you should be okay with accepting consequences that might happen upon your character that you might not like. I find that to be something I wish I could do/help with -- without a DM -- but I find it impossible in a lot of cases.
...edited some words in there...

Dominate Person is highly amusing when the server is set to Full PvP.
Your character is automatically added to the caster's party and whatever is hostile to them becomes hostile to you, including formerly allied Summons. IIRC there's also a semi-Confusion effect where you wander randomly.

The only reason the misconception of 'RP lite' continues to thrive is people perceive it to be the case. The RP here is as 'Lite' or 'Heavy' as you make it out to be in your own mind. D&D is about adventure, treasure, and other stuff too. The adventure treasure and other stuff should be equally as fun while you're RPing your characters doing it, not a 'chore' of doing it, or OOC hunting.
'Real RP' doesn't mean you have to deal with game mechanics governing your character's need for sleep, to eat, and take a dump or getting impacted bowels, and getting 1xp per kill and permadeath due to a level 3 orc getting a lucky string of crits on you.

Not "RP-Lite"
Not "Action"
Not "we are hardcore Nazies taht if you dont rp will will stab you in the face then bann you"
But we are definatly a RP server and RP should not be ignored, but for the sake of everyones enjoyment things like Dominate Person/Charm Monster should be used with concent from both parties. If a DM uses it on you and requests a save however you better jump to your dice bag or ill smi.. *cough* i mean they will smite ya *cough*

I like to think of it not as 'RP Lite', but 'Tolerance Heavy' for everyone's preferred playing styles.

That tolerance can only go so far. Throughout Amia's history, it's played a pretty big part in the server culture and has been endorsed and enforced by both DMs and players alike. Recently, though, the sentiment from both sides seems to have been that enough is enough. I don't claim to speak for anyone else, but that's my impression and that's what several recent rulings suggest as well.
I want to discourage the idea that Amia is your sandbox where you're entitled to RP however you feel comfortable. It shouldn't be a luxury that you can expect others to provide for you. It should be something you work for, yourself.
If you don't want to be dominated, you can take that IC Out from PvP that you will have been given beforehand. You can let go of your pride and beg for mercy or run far away. If you do that, if you engage in hostile RP that equals a PvP consent, you should expect the worst possible consequences and suck it up as they come. You shouldn't get to cry, "I don't wanna be dominated!" You should've thought of that before you engaged in hostile RP/PvP with a mage.
I maintain that it's not a PnP ability and while it absolutely must be used responsibly and in a way everyone enjoys, you simply don't have the right to completely ignore it. Unless the dominator explains, correctly, just how it works in PnP, though, I guess you're free to make up your own rules. >_>

You can't roll a save from within Domination since the rest menu and non-potion items can't be activated, which is tiresome.

Sometimes a person can become so attached to a PC that they begin to morph into them and vice-versa. Some have strong feelings and anything that removes the control of their PC from them, is damaging, scary, and not fun.
For those type of situations, it is impossible to ever do something against the will of the PC without violating the player's wishes.
We all have some attachments to anything we've created and invested time in. Sometimes that is very hard.
I think, like any other spell that emulates anything different than what is in the engine should be treated as 'WYSIWYG'. PCs are Dazed but not controlled, unless PnP effects are agreed upon by both parties. That, or the DM team comes to an agreed rule for its use, likely DM overseeing.
Personally, I find in those situations it is simply best to either let the opposing player go without 'bothering them' if something would not be fun.

Dwagin, people who want that kind of control over their character's fates should write books. This is roleplaying, multi-player, in a setting with horrendous monsters and (!) DMs playing gods, natural disasters, demons, assassin NPCs, Mind-flayers.
You are not safe.
While I agree, from a pragmatic point of view, that it can be best to leave these kind of people alone, they should not be allowed to set the premise for our hobby. That is a real threat, IMO, one that should not be taken lightly.

Personally, my interest in roleplaying isn't hindered at all by people who are far less willing to do anything meaningful with their characters.

Yeah. I was wondering how to deal with that threat, though, as a player, without being rude/instigating/creating player-player problems. That was what my posts were trying to get at. What to do about people who attempt to set that premise -- especially people personally involved with you in RP. Probably not much advice to give, I know I run low on it, but I indeed found myself always tending to "give up" or as Dwagin said: "not bothering" with these people who hate bad things happening to them. You guys have the title of DM on your side. What do we, as players, do?
It always seemed too tiresome, unless you want to get the DM Team involved. And I just didn't know if I had the energy for working out problems like two children with Mommy DM overseeing the shenanigans. (Not that any of you do bad jobs, at all!) And I'm not insinuating that I've really had any major specific disputes that I need to PM anyone about, but I have definitely "not bothered" before. And rather than doing that, I'd like to figure out how to work things out better to that end? And help others do that, too. Portraying Amia as the RP server it should be, instead of seeing so many people "not bother."
Lately, because this sort of thing hit me awhile ago, I've tried to take the stance that I still can't force anyone to do anything they don't want to -- nor do I want a DM to do so -- as it's not fun for anyone involved. But instead of "not bothering" with them, I've tried to exemplify how having a diseased/mutilated/tortured character can be fun... entertaining... and can even have some twisted sort of depth. It has turned a few people over into the realm of "Wow. Bad things happening wouldn't be so bad?" I think people could benefit from any other ideas. I know I've run out of them time and time again. And others probably do too.

Domination in PvP is a great idea. It opens up so many options for good RP, more so because the person Dominating doesn't know when you get to take a will save and, as I understand it, doesn't always know you have passed the save. You probably would need a DM to supervise if you planned on doing this to cause chaos but it would be fun.
Dominate a paladin then tell them to smite all the necromancers in Cordor. This shouldn't get a save as it follows their core beliefs. There's some chaos for you.
You would need to find the right people though, most of the player base are really precious about their primary characters and their primary ego.

You are commanding the Paladin break his/her code and go against the Laws of the city he/she is in and his/her alignment, dont you think that might break the domination?
However is you add bluff or persuasion in the mix you can perhaps convince the Pally that the Necro has broken some law that warrents such action

Really? I always though it was kind of lame that hard core paladins could even tolerate being in Cordor, what with all the evil types swanning around flaunting their evilness. I always expected that the law of a paladins Order would supersede the laws of some city they walk into. I never managed to successfully play a cleric or paladin like that because I would be banned from everywhere except the Ghost City of Kholingen
I mean, Dominating a cleric or paladin of Kelemvor and telling them "He's a necromancer, shouldn't you smite him?" would get a simple and agressive response? It's what they want to do after all.

The thing that separates a Paladin from a vigilante (although there is some intersect>.>) is the strict adherence to the 'Lawful' trait in 'Lawful Good' Asking them to break that is against their fundamental beliefs - the example Won keeps bringing up IIRC are paladins in Calimshan defending slavery.

I don't disagree with anything you've said here. I simply don't feel I have the right as a player to impose such. DMs do, and have the ability to enable players to do so via rules.
RP consequences are something that needs more buffing, and player's preconceptions need the most nerfing. It is a shame that these topics never have been truly brought up with the same fervor on these or the TtC boards or same effect...
