People of Cordor,

You have Thayan Wizards creeping back into your gates. Today I write about one of them. He goes by the name Valkin, is of human build with black hair and devilish horns on his head. The man wears the typical Red Robes of the wizards.

He manipulates and schemes behind us all, wringing profit from those that are suffering. For any who watch him, you will soon see this man is just like all of the others.

It was my impression that the Thayans were ran out of Cordor. I thought I was safe. Apparently, we are still under the same danger as we were years ago!

I plead to the guards to step in and apprehend this man. Keep him away from our beloved city.

With concerns,
Jacob Cooper of Theatre Street.

Amenia sees the notice and frowns, Red Wizards already under the 'bad people' list in her mind.

*Crimson's spies report back to her* "Hmm very interesting, I will have to meet this one." *When her spy turns his back to leave he can hear a crackle then all goes black. Crimson looks down at the chared body and laughs* "On more to Talos, I will return sooner then they expect."

Another note appears in the city of Cordor, though written in a different hand than the first.

"It has happened to me too! A man wearing red robes killed my husband, and then took his body. We were in Cordor's Outskirts, behind a farmhouse. The man claimed to be Valkin of Thay. He also had horns on his head. Please, guards, anyone... Do something about this evil man! I don't feel safe in Cordor anymore. How can I be expected to raise my children in the farmlands if the Thayan Mages are back to harm us all?
With pain,
Mary-Jane Firehair."

The home of the late Minister of Law, Hector L. Carton, caught fire in Western District of Cordor today. Sergeant Neveah Tarvencia reported eyewitness testimony that a darkrobed magician was responsible for the conflagration which claimed the life of the Carton family's oldest houseservant, Bernard De Beers. The magician fled into the Southern District and there tried to make an escape through the portal leading to the Ruathym island, and slew a representative of the Mystran Monolith through a devstating form of death magic. After turning to unleash a torrent of deadly spells on local witnesses, the magician was slain by Sergeant Neveah Tarvencia, ostensibly in defense of all of the citizens of the Commonwealth. Officially, no motive for the arson is known, and no public statements have been made.

Unofficially, word on the street is that the recent rumors of Thayvian activity are deserving of more credit than they were previously given. Those with obvious horns find themselves scrutinized more than usual, particularly by members of the Mage Guard, but not outright accosted.

He makes a final trip to the Cordor Library and then locks himself in his room at the Nomads Return.

*a fine envelop arrives its borders decorated with fine decorative oak leaves etched in gold, the seal is that of red wax & the symbol of the Red Wizards of Thay*
*upon opening the letter you would see the following scribed in very fine hand writing “calligraphy” on what appears to be pure white parchment with gold leaves etched into the boarders*

Greetings to the Officials of Cordor, I am valkin an I am writing to you in regards to past and current vile rumors flying around about myself an of course past events that have taken place within the city and outside its grounds involving people thought to be agents for the thayen government or more commonly know as red wizards.

Firstly, I myself have not murdered anyone in or outside cordor, nor have I attacked anyone without provocation nor have I engaged in any vile plots to undermine the fine authority or good foke of your fair city or any other city.

Secondly I fear that past eventsl regarding rouge agents within Cordo have set a bad light upon Thayen people, I write to advise the officials that yes some official representatives of thay have arrived to your island of amia, we are hear to correct the wrong done by the roge agents that are considered to have been enemy's of the thayen state as well as yours.

We have come to offer our magical wears and support your fair citys and people with our magic arts, we wish not harm to anyone only to repair what damage has been coused to people and property by these vial people.

I would like to request that I have an audience at some stage with an official of your city to perhaps discuss a concession that would allow me to freely enter your city so I might sell my wears and perhaps continue to repair relations with our nations.

I do hope this has somewhat clear up any misconceptions that have been set in circulation and that we can try to move forward in a positive light for cordor and for the good foke of thay.

In the context of the post I made above, with Thayvian suspicion creeping higher, it is not at all strange. This is the second time we've had to tell you not to be so touchy about it. Please keep this thread IC.

Hanali's Grace, Amrissa, old Mesmer would have a field day here.

*The small child beside her, roughly ten in human terms, shakes her head, murmuring, "I don't remember Mesmer, Mommy."*

Just as well you don't. Him and that thrice-damned Kalasin. Scumsuckers, all. Thay turns out nothing but rot, dear one. Nothing a'tall. Arelith was the worse for them, and so will Amia be. Mark my words....let's go see what Tempest has planned, hm? The twins are getting rowdy...damned barbarian..*The last is said fondly; maybe a bit more than fondly.*

Another few notices are posted around Cordor:

The Mystrans ran out the Thayans for the better! We were safe! Trust the Mystrans, whose trade and profits are used for the good of the world. Get rid of the Thayans, who profit from evil deeds and acts.

Slavery, Experiments, Darkenbeasts, Undead, Drugs. The Thayans delve into it all. They will reap the benefits of Cordor's distress! They will profit at our expense! We are the ones who will pay the ultimate price if the Thayans are allowed to stay.

Signed, The Citizens of Cordor.

"I remember when the Thayvians attacked, I was only a child back then and lost a few friends in the Orphanage fire. They truly disgust me my friend"

After a short conversation the two men hop into a portal and go home.

A common human farmer from the Western Outskirts of Cordor delivers various flyers to shops and homes in Cordor. He has numerous copies for each shop - Just in case they wish to hand them out to customers.

The flyers simply say:
"Support local business! Cordor's economy suffers when average working people can no longer produce reasonable goods at a reasonable price. There has been an increase in Thayan activity, who make their trade and profits on the backs of slavery.
All know that slaves cost less than hired work, and can produce more product at a lower price because of this. Allowing the Thayans to remain in Cordor is going to cripple local businesses. Please consider this when a Thayan next tries to sell you their wares."

Greetings again good officials of Cordor, I humbly request that the propaganda that is being displayed around Cordor be baned, as I believe publicly insulting or slandering of anyone is a terrible act of trickery and is well insulting.

Pleas consider my request as I am certain that you agree that said propagandize and litter; being spread about the city is unwanted not to mention it possible implications on igniting a whirlwind of events possible riots even if he continues to spread such lies about my people, I assure you that our intentions are pure and we wish no harm to Cordor or its people.

Each of the letters/notices/flyers are distinctly different. Being written in different styles, made by different materials and having different inks used. Different people delivered/posted each set. ((Please send me a PM if descriptions are required.)) Upon further inspection of the letters/notices/flyers, one would see the following:

Jacob Cooper's letter - This was a single letter, written on cheap parchment in simple common. The ink used was of poor quality, and the parchment has a musty smell about it, as if it had not been taken out in a long time. It was publically posted just near the Cordor Market Hall.

Mary-Jane Firehair's notice - This was a single letter, written on a sheet of fine paper in simple common. The writing is rather elegant, in a flowing style typical of the richer folk that tend to live in Cordor Central. It was posted publically on the bridge between Cordor Central and Cordor West.

Thay NOT welcome notices - These are small, cheap pieces of parchment with big letters printed over them. It was obviously mass produced, and some of them may bare the tell-tale signs that a stamp was used to create them. The red ink is cheap and smells faintly of grapes. These simple warnings were left scattered over the streets, pinned to trees and doors, stuffed into windows, and left without regard for the poor people who will end up having to clean it up.

Why Thay=Bad notices - 15 copies of these notices were made. They are handwritten by a professional scribe in an easy to read script. Blue ink on white paper, with the occasional red ink to highlight. Each copy was posted in a public spot in Cordor that tends to see alot of traffic. Two were on the middle of the bridge by the Temple of Waukeen in Cordor East.

Support local business flyers - These flyers look to be professionally made. They have been mass produced, likely through a roller-press technique. A number of copies were given out to shopkeepers incase they wished to support the idea and the rest were left in public places that were unlikely to cause problems. (i.e. on tables in a Tavern, left 'accidently' on shop counters, slipped into mailboxes, given to any interested people, left under doors of citizen's homes, etc.)

Close inspection from notice to notice will find that none of these are forged, and that they were each simply written by different people, using different materials, in different styles, left in different places, in different manners of posting. The only thing that seems to be similar is the topic: Cordor doesn't want a Thayan presence.

Rumors spread through the city. Obviously word of these notices and notes, along with the recent events has gotten around. Those touched by paranoia may think that this is part of an elaborate plot. In reality, and to the public eye, there is simply more and more of an outcry at the threat of a Thayan presence in the city.

There is no response from Cordorian officials, but the people seem to be speaking loudly now that such a fervor has been created. A strong community mindset appears to rise, and the population of Cordor seems very firmly cemented against any active Red influence.

Shopowners swear up and down that Thayvian goods steal the souls of good, hardworking people. Signs begin appearing in the windows of various storefronts:

Thayvian Free Since 1371

A large contingent of citizens begin wearing bright scarlet sashes tied around their left arms, and the fad begins to catch on like wildfire. They can be heard to cry out, at times during the day in the busy marketplace, or whenever the subject of Thayvians arises, "Remember the Orphanage!"

No violence breaks out. No riots are staged. But the people of Cordor stand together in a way few have ever seen them stand together before.

Cordor has truly become a Commonwealth.

Guards and Citizens alike remove those posters when they are seen. In a shocking symbol of almost martial solidarity, the people of Cordor work together to squash the voice of this sole Thayvian. None accost Valkin if he is seen physically attempting to put these signs up...

...but he soon comes to realize that the Thayvians do not have the monopoly on delivering the Evil Eye.

Not long after, a sole clerk from the Commonwealth Center crosses the square and knocks gently on the door of the Guard House, bearing a sealed envelope, which he hands over before scurrying back to his duties.

A small, anonymous note is scrawled on many of these latest notes.

'So, does that mean that anyone who donates gold to the orphanage is merely bribing them? If they are genuinely trying to improve the lives of the children there, more power to them. Put yourself in the shoes of such community services who need donations to survive.'

A letter is delivered discreetly to the Cordor citizen government, and a copy is posted in East Cordor Square. It reads as follows:

In every man and womans lifelong pursuit of their place in the world, and what seems to be just compensation for their efforts along the way, oftentimes it is an easy matter to be swept up in a shortcut. Duty and the promises of the past seem distant when one is removed from those who would remind them, and the hospitality of a foreign land may be taken for granted in the passion of advancement. Failing in this way were a group of renegade Thayan wizards, who came to Amia to flee their own government. In their mad thirst for power, they committed atrocities unbefitting modern citizens of Toril, and forsook the mercy of Cordor and the Red Wizards alike.
In the wake of these acts, that we shall not here delve into, no man nor woman from Thay has been allowed open passage through the City of Cordor, a very reasonable precaution after the mad schemes of these rogue wizards rocked the city. These men were defeated, and Cordor has turned its eyes to more important matters in the time after.
It is now that the Empire of Thay, with the whereabouts of these runaway charlatans unknown until recently, has sent its own official Red Wizards to come to Cordor, see what has become of it, and make reparations for the terrible deeds of its rogue children, who would have been killed had they remained in Thay.
In the country of Amn, for example, criminals are often executed by their government for their crimes, and the same spells true for our country. In Thay, there are few crimes greater than harming our name in potential trade arenas, as was done on the island of Amia. In foreign relations, we are a mercantile nation, and our fine magical goods go to the adventurers and militaries of many of our neighbors. Trade is the blood of Faerun and Amia, and this blood has been spilled by rogue elements of our nation. Thay has sent men, not including myself, to carefully observe your city, and determine how best to do right by you after what has been done, so that the bounty of trade may resume in earnest, between the Empire of Thay and the City of Cordor.
It is with the offer of goodwill and open diplomacy that the Empire of Thay hereby issues an official apology for the damage caused by renegade wizards born in our country, and a request for open audience with Cordorian leadership is issued. Until such a time as the Thayan officials may openly move about in Cordor has been reached, I, Rogg Kurlo, shall be your connection with the men of Thay in Cordor and back home. The time for dialogue and trade is here, so let both our peoples find mutual ground in the medium of diplomacy. Yours truly,

Rogg Kurlo

*A certain foppishly dressed man in puffy pants and sleeves of green and cream taupe stood about the city, staff and spiked mask upon his face, finely crafted gloves holding to his staff in front of him, assuring a group of noble gentlemen that the negative sentiments on Thayvians of any form are well founded. His words are spoken with an odd, long drawl and pronunciation of every letter within each word, obviously hailing from a place where formal speech, and vocalizations are the norm. An amulet with a hand with a single raised glowing finger is clearly hanging from his neck about his frilly collar*

"Know that the Red-Thay are not only all that have been described, slavers, vile experimenters, necromancers, but also promote the crossbreeding of humans with all manner of evil beings, for experiments to create a force of world conquering super-human soldiers. They have no morals, and murder, vile assassination is not only legal but compelled by their very society to do so. They summon demons, and consort with evil drow constantly, to make pacts to serve their nefarious, Lich Leader's goals. You may remove the Wizard from Thay, but you'll never remove the Red from the Wizard. No Thayvians!

I give this to you freely, as a friendly warning, as an Ambassador of Halruaa, we know very well of the encroachment of Thay, and the inhumanities -any- red wizard is capable of. Listen not to their ploy gentlemen. They will disrupt the progress that has been made toward securing and stabilizing business, trade, on the isle, and try to usurp profits at any cost. There are many counts of competitors to Thayvian business that end up dying of mysterious illnesses, dissipating into dust or spontaneously combusting... Need I say more?"

*The well-spoken man continued his talking and chit-chatting, repeating the same sentiments across those congregating outside the former duchal palace over the course of the day.*

A letter is delivered to the Watch house as well as the local temples city hall an other major factions within Cordor*

*A Cream Envelops arrives in your hand, it is scented with rose oil and seems to have no marking as to who it is from, a red wax drip seals the letter shut an a scarlet ribbon entwined with it*

To (official/temple agent/Order Master & so on)

I write to you again to seek the gift of forgiveness for the tragic events that did besiege this town, I Valkin Mulgin have donated to several charitable organizations, I have also helped many citizens in whatever they have required to show my nature and my intentions for the good foke of Cordor.

I live in hope that someone will consider my request to not be considered an outcast within your fair city, I seek forgiveness for those that did wrong, an hope that I can help in earning that forgiveness for myself an for others of my country that might wish to visit your fine city.

Let it be known that I am happy to agree to most terms should my people be allowed entrance to your fair city. I have recently received updated orders from my thayen masters an they have urged me to continue my good work if at least to allow us entrance to your city again an to trade our wares an peddle our enchantments.

I offer my services to the city of Cordor in any way they might need me, an hope that someone out there will head my request in light of my actions, I am happy to meet with any official that wishes to discuss this further, but I feel as many have stated there dislike for ym kind it would be best in a neutral location.

*Signed*

Valkin Mulgin Of Thay

Owen Belmont, with his blotchy black spotted skin and wretched cough, listens to the commotion and reads the signs and begins to post ones of his own.

Dear people of Cordor.

This man, this Valkin is an imposter!. The Red Wizards dont allow any other race, not even ones of infernal heritage into their acadamies except for humans!, add that to the fact that he is offering magical lessons? Rubbish! Thay guard all of their magic secrets with utmost zealotry!.

Do not make this man into the center of attention for any person with eyes can see this man is a complete and utter farce!

Scrawled onto Vichal's note:

"Well the citizens of Cordor want you gone. Stand by our Commonwealth Government and assist them in removing yourselves from our city."

Amongst the sprawl of notices put up around the city regarding Thayvians, another one is added.

Despite all the anger and hatred shown for those from Thay, it all appears to be a biased argument and xenophobic propaganda. While in the past, Red Wizards have caused harm to Cordor, that is the past and this is the now. Many years ago I was tortured and forced to undergo a terrible ritual by a sect of malicious thieves; however, in the end, it was a Thayvian who risked his life to free me from their clutches and help me escape to Amia. He showed nothing but kindness to me, and even the Thayvians I've seen on Amia have been utterly polite.

At the very least, these representatives from Thay should be given an opportunity in this fair city to trade. My experience with them has been good, so we cannot judge the whole nation on the rash actions of one group of rebels.

*Willow passes through the Cordorian Square, she glances at one of the many notes littering the ground, and after reading some she rests a delicate hand on the sheath holding her favourite thyvian blade with a smile.*

An Older gentleman can be seen, at times when wandering the city, Talking aloud about how he was in the wrong trade, and that he should work in a paper mill to aid all these people in there quest to turn cordor in to a sea of pretty little notes.

Sergeant Tarvencia recieves the letter at the Watch House after checking the mail. Prior to merely scanning it, she begins checks the return address, postal marks, and speaks with the door guard who likely recieved the letter for clues on the where-abouts of Valkin.
