I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but I am very new to the server and I tried doing a search in the forum and had no luck. Therefore, how is the percent chance of loot being dropped determined?

Are the characters stats/skills/feats/etc affect the chance of loot being dropper, i.e. higher search yeild higher chance of a drop, or is it set formula? If it's a set formula, what determines the chance of a drop?

Thank you

PS - so far the server is very kick @ss. :D

A d100 is rolled vs a set amount, 5 + additional party members.

If the roll is beneath the number or equal to it, you get loot.

Unique enemies drop loot 100% of the time.

There is a little chance that the loot might be scrolls, or that there might be some mythal in it.

Hey thanks. I saw the roll output for each kill but was not sure where it came from.

Thanks again.

Also, mythals are on a different table than that loot drop roll.

Yes. You can get loot and Mythal sometimes. Sometimes just mythals. Or just drops.

And Summons don't count as extra party members when considering loot drops.

Yup. You make a loot roll and a craft item roll.

Also epic loot is only a 5% chance regardless to party members.

Are there any lists of the epic loot or the creatures that drop epic loot?

I got some wonderforged weapon drops. Are those form the highest loot table or is there anything beyond that?

Sorry for the questions. I'm new here an avid item collector on every server I play.

The DMs have a list, but we won't divulge it and I'll whap anyone who does.

wonderforged does indeed come from the highest loot bin.

can i give a hint? pweese?

if you are in an epic area, and you come to an epic boss? chances are you have a 5% chance to get epic loot when you kill that boss.

Since when is Epic loot a flat 5% chance? AFAIK the more people in the party the better odds of a drop, and it's been that way for quite a while. A flat drop rate means a player is better off to solo Bosses and given the number of complaints of people soloing I would think this is not what most people want.

Watch the drop rolls. It's a flat 5%.

And you're right.

How about 3% + 0.5% per party member? That'd be nicer ... six people = 6%
Of course, that still means you only have 1/3 the chance you did when soloing (6% divided amongst six people), but the job's easier.

I thought that was the point of Bosses spawning once per player each reset, to encourage parties and cut farming epic loot down.

It just means people cant farm as much.

Doesnt encourage parties at all, because they run, kill the bosses, then find something else to do.

Nerfing the percent roll wont help the majority of players who don't farm.

It does if they want Epic loot that much, with a party they can farm a single boss multiple times. Alone they can't.

That was the wrong solution to a problem that only exists between certain people's ears and serves to create other problems without actually fixing the perceived original problem in the first place.

The proper solution to the perceived problem would have been a server policy that Epic loot may only be traded for gold within a certain range for a given class of item - Wonderforged weapons, for example, may only be traded for between 1 and 2 million GP.

Instead we have a "solution" which means that only those players with builds strong enough to solo every Boss have a reasonable chance of getting Epic loot for themselves... and if they get a Wonderforged Longsword instead of a Wonderforged Scimitar they can still offer it for sale at an exorbitant price only the wealthiest can afford.

Limiting the number of times a given character can kill a given Boss per reset does nothing to reduce the Demand of Epic Loot. It does, however, reduce the Supply thereby increasing the price and ensuring that only those players willing to do the grinding to attain tens of millions of GP can afford their purchase.

This. It did kind of make the elite groups more elite, and the lowers even more screwed.

See: Cyrus (61.8 million gold, 80% equiped with epics) Capable of soloing.
See: Debonair (500k, Sh** all around, and never to dream of affording something like that. ) Great in Parties

The DM staff is aware of this, and are always trying to fix/rebalance it...

But I'll take one for the team, by saying it's a complicated issue without a perfect solution.

A OOC server rule limiting the IC price of items is not an adequate solution in any case. IC change must start IC and stay IC.

It also discourages the sale of epic loot, making the only way to attain it to already have another and trade.

At least at the moment some does trickle down. If they can't be sold for a reasonable price, I doubt any will.

Diablo II did have a meaningful currency you could use to buy items. It's just that gold coins were called "SoJs."

Unfortunately, the current setup favors powerbuilding and soloing. I vote to do away with them. I -liked- the thayvian system. Lol. You couldnt make powerful weapons, but you could have onhits, and items with neat spells. I liked the system. . I. .

I'll just shut up.
I said nothing.

Everyone liked the Thay system. Who wouldn't like a system that let you make every piece of your gear +5/10 elemental resist/+3 stat/spell X/day/Onhit anything/Keen/elemental damage/+3 regen? Oh, and permanent Haste.

Powerbuilders liked the Thay system just as much as they ernjoy Mythal, so don't try that line of arguing... and you had to farm for the high end Thay stuff just as much as people farm for Flawlesses now.

with the loot system how it is.. I'm not to good with maths, but isn't it better to solo than party.. since an etra party member is only 1% more but your uddenly getting half the loot. just thoughts that it won't encourgae party.. but I'm a greedy git and soon as I hit level 4 I go buy a 4k scroll and go out hunting.. and usally I'm good solo, but soon as I use that scroll in a party.. I'll never get that 4k back in newbie hunting area's

am tired, hoping I'm thinking straight

Oh and mmmm thayvian gear.. yum yum, give me +d10 damage rapiers

The farming and gold inflation was no where near the problem it is now IIRC.

No where near.

And perma haste was removed.

Instead, you made items specifically that were 'desirable' instead of finding components to build your own.
That inherently makes every item much more expensive.

There's my cents.

Done with the topic.

What about the possibility of adding more umpf to some of the higher end Mythals, like 1d8, 1d10 damage for weapons, bigger mass crits, +4 +5 and +6 stats, to let you craft your own flavor of the item you want. +10 +15 +20 skill, let people craft their own thingies, instead of dropping specific items.

Expand the mythal system's higher tier, allow higher quality mythals to ignore the power limitations on some enchantments, making the epic drop, like an item that can be used by -anyone- that gets it, how they want, not a 'Yay! +5 Sickle..'

Admittedly, looking at the mcs chart, there's some places on the chart that could get some serious lovin.. without unbalancing the system.

IF having this "elite division" is a problem, the solution is simple. Make epic loots common.

If there exists a bastard sword that's more powerful than what's available through the mythal system and shops, my toon would like to have it. If it means killing bosses, so be it.

Personally I see no problem with it, like any other game... you'd like to have your character to be equipped as best as allowed. As long as people have fun, why not? Who cares if x and y is wearing all epic loots and is a billionaire.

I always saw the change to the pirate etc. bosses was so that people wouldn't camp inside/outside the ship in GS as was so common then.

I'd suggest making that its own topic with specific examples (so it doesn't get lost / ignored in here). The idea has plenty of merit.

*looks at DC items.*

And I guarantee is would. Mythal is already dangerously close to being 100% broken. Ever notice how no one complains about Dev Crit anymore? It's because of Mythals.

You'd be incorrect. Farming has always been a problem, and gold inflation has always been an issue, the only reason it's stacking up now is NOT because of the changes to bosses, no, it's because we had a rush of players who do literally nothing but bossfarm 24/7, network amongst themselves, get extreme amounts of gold, do little to no roleplay, and through this system invalidate a large portion of the playerbase's works in GP and items.

Thayan items were more expensive than their mythal counterparts, and in todays market would be worth even more. A ktitted out meleer could have +15 regen, maxed out STR, +5 armor, shield, and deflection, +5 weapon, 2d6 elemental, keen without touching his rings, belts, amulets, cloaks, or boots, freeing up all of those slots for even more gear.

Thay gear was the Age Of The Meleer more than anything, and the XP and GP costs encourage farming even more along with the need for extremely rare, separate table Thay loot in the bins because they had a lower drop rate than standard items, require more farming to get them in the first place, and more farming to make up ythe exhorbitant XP and GP costs.

I won't even touch the Orb of Destiny debacles.

Urk, I was thinking of it mostly from a 'build your own epic equivilant weapon'. or have nice RP skill-check gear.

I neglected to think of how it'd unbalance certain builds pvp wise, or the off chance someone would get 4 divine mythals and make an item with +20x4 or something obscene skillpoint wise.

I'm going to redact what I said and say, 'I'd like more useable variety for the everyman from epic drops, opposed to specific weapons/armor'

Would something like that be possible? Instead of wonderforged items, maybe mythals that can craft similar things drop instead? Not that I've ever gotten a piece of epic loot personally.

Can we buy Epic stuff with DC's? I thought we had to have epic items to begin with (e.g. Braces of Heal (which I am still working towards!)).

It would be nice to be able to buy epic items with DCs.

After being able to have actually "touched" one of every Epic loot item in todays bin. I have to say, a good chunck of Epic loot is just not worth being there and are labled as "Junk Epic Loot" and they are only there to keep people farming more to actually get something -good-. There is a big handful of items that are good though. But all weapons, majortiy of the armors and all but one shield can be surpased easily with RPing and DC requests.

All of the Rings, Ioun stones, Mage Foes collection, golves, cloaks and spell casting items are probably the best. For only one reason, you can not request anything close to them with DCs.

You want some really good DC bard gloves? Too bad you'll be wasting your DCs because the best is in the Epic loot bin.

Thinking about requesting an item that can cast GS? You will need to find out how to get a hold of a GS cloak first then you can turn it to what you'd like.

It does meet some sort of balance though. Since every weapon in the bin can be blown away by a built up DC weapon. Which can run around 25-35 DCs depending on what you added. While you can not request Items with GS or the +5 Fort Cloaks, you can get Full Plate and Towershields and have 0% Arcane spell failure added with a proper request.

So there are ways to get Epic items that are completely unique to you. And even ones that are better than anything else farmers can get. But there are still items you must be lucky enough to find.

So even those with all the DCs in the world, but the worst luck ever when it comes to Epic loot, they are still at a wall when it comes to getting the best items of all.

Thus you need to be a epic loot farmer (or close friends with one) in order to get the best stuff.

That is what is most annoying from mine own point of view.

OR, as Mahtan pointed out, DC buy your gear. From the few DC items I've seen, I'd have to say DC items are sooo much better and cooler.

And of course if you really want to have the "best", you need both epic loots and DC items.

From what Mahtan pointed out, you need Epic stuff in order to DC the best gear anyway (excepting weapons).

Yet the vast majority of people see very few DC's. Endless unwinnable debate there.

Junk epic loot makes me rage on the inside. I lol'd my face off every time I found a whip.

Tormak, exaggerate much?

It's an especially complicated problem, that leaves the influx of farmers (majority of which are evil characters, powerbuilt) in the top echelon, and most everyone else has to put up with having a boot in the arse by one of them if you blink at them the wrong way.

I, however, personally equipped a few people with prices well below what I could have acheived from 'current rates,' somewhat proving the earlier made point. . peoples current options are to powerbuild/farm, or befreind powerbuilds/farmers.

But we all know this arguement, each side, 100%. It's been done before. So I'm not sure why I just wasted my time here. Lol. Woo.

Actually I'll even use my own DC item as an Example. Brandriks Shadow Affinity. It is Shades, Greater Shadow Conjuration, Shadow Conjuration, Rogues Cunning three times a day, Mass camo and Imporved invisibility once per day.

Breaking those down, It is a Shadow Gem and a Orb of Unlocked secrets with some extra goodies on it. Things that I had neither of when I requested it. I am not exactly sure on the Final price I was given as I bought and upgraded this item. I think in the end it was around 40ish DCs.

Now if I wanted to suddenly go and add GS to my Shadow Affinity. I'd be asked for a GS cloak to trade in because GS is a -very- useful spell. Regardless of spell level.

So really, some things fly, some things don't. I can't tell anyone not to request something that may be similar to items in the Epic loot bin or not. Whether you will be asked to collect the Epic item first or not is up to the final dissision at the end of the DM discusion on your request.

Just to add a fun fact here too. Even if you have a Wonderforged weapon, Mythaled it the max. But you'd like to request to have your damage upgraded to like a 2d6 for example, and made magical or positive. Both of which are extremely hard to resist. Even though your weapon request doesn't need the Keen, +5 AB, +4 Enhance, or even a +5 Enhance. You will still have to pay in full for that weapons end result.

a Longsword with
+5
Keen
2d6 Magical
Mass Crits

Will cost you the same if you requested from a blank longsword.

So whatever you already Mythaled on your weapons and such, do not lower your DC price for the item.

PS: Can you find the hidden message in this post? :D

DM Edit: Yes, I can, and if you make veiled snipes again at players on the public forums, you'll be on vacation.

I did not exaggerate the farming issue we had recently, nor the strength of the Thayvian Craft system.

Oh and how could I forget about scripted items? Those things will make you very happy, and special looking. Some properly requested scripted items, can give you more than any Epic loot item could hope to.

So DC items are still by far on the top of things in relation to Epic loot. But we can't have everything being DC requestable. Because then those that do have more DCs than others can just request a full gear set of Epic items without ever setting foot against an Epic boss. Some items need to be gained through fighting a challenging foe. Simple as that.

While I can't speak for the Thayvian items, you most certainly didn't exaggerate the current inflation.

Not sure if I am just noticing a small blip on the overall picture but Epic Loot has been more easily traded for gold and at low gold values then ever before in all my years of playing.

I am not sure if this is because of more Boss Farmers or gold being worth more. I am going with the former.

The "OMG 10 mill gold" only really goes for the really rare items like +4 agility belt or +5 fortification cloak. All items that a large number of people want.
