I'm posting this to correct something I said.

Feel free to disagree, but there were enough agreeing with me previously that I thought it important enough to warrant it's own thread.

Iron and I have been ... discussing this particular for many many moons, in regards to Paladins, and their oaths and what not, as has others.

Well...

I was wrong.

I ordered and read the entire Forgotten Realms campaign settings, from the Advanced D&D, to the 2nd Edition, to the third Edition and 3.5 supplements.

From 3rd Edition Forgotten Realms campaign setting:

Also, even more interesting, is this:

Iron is right in regards to the different Paladin orders having different "viewpoints", and those viewpoints not necessarily coinciding with the Greyhawk or Ebberon campaign settings.

SO!

I concede, Iron on the Paladin point.

Please understand this isn't any type of sarcastic or otherwise BS post, and in no way do I expect that any of the above "requirements" about multiclassing should apply here. I'm saying this to hopefully educate everyone else out there in the differences between Greyhawk / Eberron and FR campain settings.

However, I will never concede on Absolute vs Relative Alignment :P

We have to have something to argue about!

:P

Regards,

Well, you can always maintain it's a stupid system whether it's kosher lore-wise or not.

That's what I do with many irritating lore quirks. I maintain they were added to the canon by some imbeciles with the intention of ruining the game. And when there's enough of us who agree it's stupid and shouldn't be there, we just make a house rule for it to exclude it, hehe. That's the spirit of the game, after all. :D

I still retain my thought that Paladins have the potential to be the most evil characters out there with their zealous passion to destroy evil at any means.

If you've watched supernatural and know about the Angels Uriel and Castiel, you'll understand why I think Paladins are so bad arse.

Pfft, The kellies are more based on the christian inquisition (Hexenhammer), the crusades, especially the knight orders (Knight-Templars, Order of Lazarus and Teutonic Knights) and a dark gothic like vatikan style mixed with the kelemvorite dogma, along with stories of martyrs. The fact that we use some preachy quotes from that game once in a while is just our cherry on the top of the fanatic ice cream sundae.

Ravensword Regiment comes from the fact that it was the coolest flag in the 1.69 update and had a raven and sword on it. Oh, butI did steal the idea of a tattoo under Sharina's left eye because I found that pwetty. I kinda started playing witch hunters because of the kellies. :P

But yes, anyway... I completly agree with Galenson, Paladins have the potential to be the most dark characters out there if played as grim zealotic fanatics. Of course, there are still things you cant do as a pally. But most take the romatic camelot style, or the friendly knight in shining armor. The deity matters a lot, for instance I doubt you could make a paladin of sune too dark, but one of tyr or even illmater by making him a flagellant would work.

Well, note I spoke about the eternal order faction here is based influenced strongly by such things. The forgotten realms lore eternal order (which is not very detailed) is a pure paladin branch tasked with hunting down undead. They developed from that before I joined them, having Daren as the first cleric Inquisitor which was part of it, and Roland was a cleric as well.
