On the Lawful-Chaotic Axis I'm almost exclusively Lawful. I'm to much like that IRL, and I always think deal and that are made to be honoured.
And none of my characters ever lie (well, Ame does but it's obvious when she does) ... they do have a fun time morphing the truth, though.
Chaotic Neutral - a.k.a the alignment for characters who you don't have a clear image in your head for, also the I Can Do Whatever The Flog I Want To Do alignment
actually, you can't do anything you want, even if you are chaotic neutral. In order to keep the alignment, you can't overdo good or evil. Going on a rampage murdering people turns you into evil. And of course the balancing idea: you think that you can go on rampage, as long as you aid the poor with all your money.

I'm a Neutral, for sure. I have three Neutrals, one Chaotic, and two Lawful. My Neutrals either lean Lawful or Chaotic so it evens out.

all my characters are either LE or NE, because I find they have the greatest flexability. LE characters can be just as law abiding as LG characters, but they just use the law to their benefit. It provides a greater flexability than LG, because an evil character can do a good action just as easily as an evil one, but as a means to a nefarious end. My evilest PC offers IC raises to all mortal enemies, if only to show that their life, and death, are in the palm of his hand. He can kill them, he can bring them back, and they are totally in his control. (that, and I hate just doing ooc raise and saying someone brought them back to cordor, its just lame).

What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

I'd say they just become tired. The evil is always stronger, easier, you grow tired of fighting after a certain period of time if there's no support you can count on.
I can't play evil though, it's just impossible, I feel bad afterwards. I have a CG, a NE (who's anything but E, more of a TN actually) and a CN who sways towards CG.
Wouldn't be able to play Lawful.

A lot of people who don't play evil, usually say it makes them feel bad. I take it they mean 'feel bad OOC for maybe having messed up another player's day,' but if I'm wrong, uhh... Well, too fucking bad.
If that is the case, however, it can be helped a lot by being at least somewhat decent OOC to other players, I've found. Anything evil any of my characters have done, has usually only happened after I've spoken to who ever the victim was, just so they knew that I wasn't doing whatever to be an asshole. Not saying that anyone should blow their cover, hand over plans or give detailed description of what they're going to do, but it's good to know a person beforehand when you stab their character in the back.
Aswell, if it's evil on a greater scale, talk possibilities through with your opponent/s, it may just make for a lot more fun than not doing so.

I'll give you my case: It's just the thought of being evil in general, even if it's not real, even if the other has been informed and doesn't mind, I still don't feel good. I guess it's irrational on some level.
But I don't mind being on the receiving end, especially if it's getting dragged to Ultrinnan and kept as a slave for a while One of my characters could actually, maybe enjoy it >.>

I play evil, and it always makes me fee bad. I talk a lot OOCly, and try to keep as good communication as possible, but that doesn't stop me from feeling bad.

I play the evil aspect sometimes, sometimes I have felt bad for it so i hit the poor sod on the recieving end up with a tell saying no hard feelings and it was just ic, i ALWAYS get told not to appolagise for being IC, so now i never feel bad.
That said, ive had more people complain about my good rp than my evil rp, probbably because paladins are just irritating if played righteously. hell I irritate me when I play my Paladin... Leaning towards Evil, still neutral though.. oh wait this was about my characters... mostly CG.

I make a point of trying to play every alignment.
Also, I tend to think up a persons personality before assigning an alignment, which usually leads to unorthodox yet in no way Half-Dragon/Half-Demon situations.
For example, my Lawful Good Tormite Sorceror who believes his power to
be a dangerous thing. Attempting to harness it even though it is hard and
the path is filled with pitfalls. He has great respect for his own power and
will never use magic for situations where he could handle it in a mundane
manner. Also, heres a excerpt from his diary:
"Though I doubt my father would be too impressed with this way of dealing
with things. All due respect to my dear father, but he does not have the mind
to comprehend that not all people are faithful in Torm as he and I. With authority
comes the responsibility to wield it to the best of the people. If that means
going behind the back of otherwise good people to protect them and their
charges I can live with this."
Which is in reference to his intrigue filled dealings in bribing and sweet
talking his way into becoming a Judge of a otherwise corrupt city.
Yes, he might not be the perfect Lawful Good character by any stretch of
imagination. But his very life style and discipline attests to it. Also, most if
not all of his intentions are Lawful and Good.
I thought it fit nicely.

One thing that saddens me is that Lawful Good is only really chosen if you plan on playing a very good person who worships a god.
You realize you can go Lawful Good and still player a normal fighter who may not believe in the gods? or just doesn't feel that all actions by those good gods is really right. It's a bit of a pity.

Well, my main would be CG, but he is really bordering both NG and TN at times. He is human after all. Its hardvto really predict his reactins to things, thus making his aligment rather.. flexible around those three mentioned.
Now my newer addition, I try NE for the first time. The NE thing basicly comes from him being a thief; he steals what we wants, but he doesent have any malice towards anyone, and has no urge to kill just for being evil. I guess he could also lean towards CN at times, and he does have a certain sympathy for the poorer people of the world.

Bail ass in the opposite direction.
The number of times you die is directly related to the number of times you refuse to run away.

People use that as the *mindblow* answer for everything but I don't think it really works anymore.
I don't think anyone can really be neutral without having opinions... It wouldn't be fun to RP a character who says 'I don't mind, I don't care, Don't ask me'
That would make them pretty much braindead, though. I don't know what I'm talking about.

I have a CN character who does whatever he thinks he can get away with, so in a way he is evil, Just don't get him angry!
but I have no OCC bad feelings about anyone who my Character gets mad at.
It actually creates some interesting RP situations...

Neutrals do have opinions, they do take sides, they do good things, they do evil things, they do questionable things, they break the law, they follow the law, they use the law to get their way. That's a neutral. Neutrals aren't boring people who work off instinct like some deer. At least not all the time. I think TN is one of the most misunderstood alignments in all of D&D. It's sad too because they can be some of the most interesting characters around.

I like to view neutrals as people who are not extremist, ie they are normal people. I mean how many people do you know that are normal that would be willing to do truly good things? say a person's house is on fire, other than fire fighters, how many people would go inside to save people? at the same time how many would be willing to light the fire themselves?

They can be just normal joes, but I disagree with the point about being extremists. TN Druids are some of the most zealous people in FR lore.

I agree ... extremism is not tied to alignment. An Inevitable (which isn't FR but is Amia), for example, is LN and it will literally go out of its way, carve through Cthulhu and walk the bottom of the ocean to try and get to you.

It wouldn't be fun to RP a character who says 'I don't mind, I don't care, Don't ask me' Neutrals do have opinions, they do take sides, they do good things, they do evil things, they do questionable things, they break the law, they follow the law, they use the law to get their way. That's a neutral. Neutrals aren't boring people who work off instinct like some deer. At least not all the time. I think TN is one of the most misunderstood alignments in all of D&D. It's sad too because they can be some of the most interesting characters around.

Neutral but only because there's no option for "assigning arbitrary alignments to characters is a stupid idea that's unrealistic in all the worse ways and a product of lazy writing and an inability to see the world as anything but black and white/us verses them"

Unrealistic in all ways? What about the IC way where there are planes that are physically aligned with it.
The D&D is "black and white/us verses them" ... it's not laziness, it's a design concept to make it a fun game, rather than a pool of pseudo-philosophical debates.
