There's overlapping tradition. The Satan in the Book of Job, for example, is clearly not the same figure as the Satan that Jesus speaks of, though they share a name. We're talking about some 1000 years of oral and (re-)written tradition, after all.

BlackDahlya: no, it doesn't have to be the same DM. But personally speaking, I think it would be quite lame for me to Fall someone and then expect my colleagues to do the redemption work for me.

lol, there's no reason to turn this thread into a religious debate. I was just pointing out why he actually fell.

Hmm, I regret bringing up Lucifer, I didnt know there was such religious zeal in here...

(Im Swedish, and for 90% of swedes 'religion' is just something that crops up when you go to church at marriges and funerals..) :P

Samantha was sort of "Fallen" for awhile. Man, her life sucked....

Good thing she had Fighter levels to gain! No restriction on those!

Also, I will say, if you get put upon for that sort of stuff spontaneously in a DM-driven event.. don't complain about it or ask for it to not have happened! That was some of the best RP with Sam that I've ever had, even if her life sucked!

There are religious people here, along with those interested in theology and mythology.

It's all a load of bloody nonsense anyway; Christianity is the napster of the theological world. All their evil names and 'aspects' are pirated from one ancient mythology or another. I'll bet you all the tea in China that Lucifer/Satan/Lilith/Eve is also called Mohammad or Bin Laden when the Evangelicals release their The Good Book 78096th Edition in a hundred years or so.

Discussing a religion is one thing, openly bagging it is another. That sort of thing will just get this topic locked.

EDIT: my comment was aimed at the institutions not people faiths.

On the fallen Cleric thing, couldn't that be the responsibility of the PCs responsible for the church on Amia? The Baneites seem to do a good job of selecting their 'pope' and maintaining order in the ranks. Could the other faiths do the same?

I mean, if the majority of PCs believe one person to be the head of the Church on Amia then anyone else must be a heretical usurper right? The deity is probably going to back the person that nets them the most followers so if an established Church declares another person a 'false prophet' for not paying lip service, making donations or otherwise doing 'our lords work' they could cop a 'fall' for it couldn't they?

People may think this is unfair but it seems like viable IC consequence for ignoring a wider RP situation. You can't just create a god in the Forgotten Realms right? They have to accept you

The gods handle falling, and they are NPCs, something which puts them inside DM jurisdiction. There's no changing that, no matter how smoothly, unproblematic and orderly the Church of Bane faction manages to select their leaders and maintain order in their ranks.

Whereas I could see some of the Good or Lawful deities getting upset at this, I think a great many of the Evil or Chaotic deities would encourage such a practice to make sure that the "strongest" person is the one that runs their church.
