My character travels a lot through frozen and mountainous regions where lots of wolves, white bears and mountain lions can be found. He has collected several dozens of their hides and wished to become a tanner. He found an instructor in Howness and learned the job.

Now, whenever I try to use the Curing Trough it says the "wolf/bear/lion hide is not processed by this object". Why? The talk-box clearly states that I can put my hides or leather in/on the Curing Trough to create leather.

I cannot even sell the skins either in Howness or Wharftown.

What's going on? Is there a bug with the tanner job or am I just doing something wrong?

Wharftown tanner buys gatorskin and Howness tanner buys Howness animal leather.

I am quite sure the job system hides need to come from somewhere else. From a big game hunter maybe?

Oh now this is just great. Another 3 job points wasted. How could I have possibly known that the hides must come from the big game hunter and not from the animals that drop them so often.
Thanks for the info, though.

Umm, the big hint is that all job system items are orange named. This is stated on the sidebar page.

I would! But unfortunately early in the game I've used lots (18) of my job points on the most boring and monotonous job of all - the mercenary. And I don't even use it. Now I have no more points to distribute. It's terrible, because now, when I'm more familiar with Amia, I would choose completely different jobs for my character.

Ummm, how is it wasted? You can still do the job, and still get the xp and gold from the hides you have?

Yeah I know. I don't care about xp but I do care about the job that fits my character, is productive and offers some PC interaction (even if it only means selling created items to other PCs).

My character originally was a mercenary so I've mastered the job (still not sure why have I put so many points in it). I thought it would be fun but then the job appeared so dull that I just couldn't stand it. I mean, how many times I have to go to the very same place to kill that specific monster? No interaction with anything, no cooperation. Nothing. Just go, kill, go, kill, on and on... I can roleplay a better mercenary job with other PCs without the need of taking the job itself from the job system.

Now, when I've been playing my character for some time, I've noticed he spends most of his time in the frozen lands in search for a game to hunt. So I thought I would take a leatherworker job and a tanner to do something with those hides. The job description said that PC needed hides to convert them to something, and I had plenty of them. I missed the information on the sidebar about orange items (that Tormak passed me in his post above). /Yo, I'm a newbie/

Is there something I can do with it, if I no longer use one of the jobs? Okay, it's partially from OOC reasons but as I said, I prefer to RP the merc rather than use its job system. Can part of the job log be reset? I asked about it in my Request once, but didn't meet any answer so I don't know what am I standing on at the moment.

Thanks for all your replies.

If you want to look at getting your job log reset; you are reverted back to No Ranks in Any Job, or, 100% of your points are returned to you that have been spent.

If you reset your job log, you re-train everything. It can't be done just for job 'A' and leave job 'B' alone. So if you have any merchant job ranks, you'd loose any saved inventory in those merchant containers as well.

That's fair enough. The hides form Forrstakkr are worth gold and xp in their own rights, anyway, regardless of whether you have a job or not. You just need to do a couple of quests to get anyone to talk to you.

My job log has been reset so it's all okay. Now I'm a little bit more careful in picking them.

Don't worry, it even happens to me. I took Pig Farmer and then I realised I wasn't gonna leave Caraigh/Wiltun any soon.. and the Butcher is in Khem. Alas.
