I was wondering if there would be anyone interested of starting an evil faction to Amia? There seem to be a lot of drow houses, but im talking about creating a faction which would accept thieves, assassins etc. as long as they are evil and accept the factions goals and are trying to make them happen.

I'm asking this out of curiosity, because i have a high level palemaster and it would be nice to belong to a group that has some sort of purpose. It would give a lot to roleplay when trying to reach a goal together, whether it be forcing money from people or attacking a town etc. Nowadays it seems that all the evil chars are grouped in 1-3 small groups and a lot are on their own wondering around. So is anyone interested in forming a large frontier of evil?

Various factions recruit in various ways, the question is what are you looking for, and useually you can find one or they find you.

The acronym might catch your eye ;)

Hang out in Cordor for ten minutes and approach one of the first thirty characters dressed all in black, bristling with various killing paraphenalia, and fixing everyone with that malicious "too cool for school" look.

The bad guys aren't hard to spot.

He's right, if you want classic evil just find someone who calls you 'puny scum' or 'pathetic fool' when you ask them why they like to wear black. Make no mistake, they are not beatniks.

If they wear all black and are 'startlingly beautiful with eyes like nymph washing spring water' then they are probably a good guy who likes minimalist fashion.

If they are an irritating loudmouth then they may be me.

I coulda swore this was a question about factions thread, and not a 'bash other players RP thread'.

That being said, there are oodles of existing factions already. I suggest trying to find one that fits your character.

I can't help but feel this is something that should be done in character, though.

Was intended to bash people who ask inane questions about why someone is wearing black (questions I've asked and feel silly for).

But seriously, if you want to find an evil faction, try planning something nasty and nefarious your self. Grab a DM and go for it; robbing, pillaging, plotting or blowing things up. Someone will like your style and try to recruit you. So long as there is a point to it.

Or go to a bar on the corner of West and 175th street, go down stairs and ask for Slim...

Don't bother trying to make a new faction, it requires a LOT of work on your behalf to get off the ground. Ive been in a few evil factions, and I'll give a quick summary here of the ones I know of and what ive interpreted them as. (Feel free to disagree anyone)

So, from biggest to smallest...

Church of Bane - Focus on heirarchy and politics. Highly secretive. Main enemy: Cyricists.

Horsemen + Red Wizards - Focus on heirarchy and politics.

Black Flag - Focus on secrecy and moneymaking.

Church of Cyric - Focus on causing chaos/murder. Enemies: Banites, Kellies, Triadics, probably a few more.

Tarkuul - Focus on secrecy, heirarchy, politics, necromantic stuff.

Then there's the drow houses, and a few other cults (Tiamat, Garagos, Auril) which I know nothing about!

If your playing a PM then Tarkuul might be your best bet, though likely the banites, cyrics, horsemen would have you as well.

But there's no need for another evil faction ;)[/b]

House Vin'taelhess Focus on Sacrifice (surfacers/heretics), Hidden Power, Financing other front groups, assassinations, slavers and mercenary outfits, trading in slaves, Conversions, Destroying all other Clerics of other faiths, worshipping Ghaunadaur, feeding slimes and oozes. They have their tentacles everywhere above and below ground. Allies: Non-church related evil groups. Enemies: All other faiths. Secret? Semi-secret; just that they tend to work through third parties so you'll never really know if it was their handiwork or not. You'll hear about them if: a). you're a sacrifice or b). if they're trying to convert you. Otherwise, you'll probably only meet them on occasions or never really know you're talking to one...

Would add that Red Wizards are into profit as well. Not just politics and heirarchy.

I would say that the Church of Bane isn't very secretive at all. At least not atm. It has been in the past.

Could add the following to main enemies: Any follower of the triad (Tyr, Torm, Ilmater + Helm), Mystra, Shar.

. . .

Try reading this poll:

http://www.amiaworld.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=39574

52 votes on behalf of those who have a majority of Good + Neutral characters.

.vs.

35 who have a majority of Evil characters.

Amia has more good Good/Neutral characters than Evil ones. Hell. Amia even has more Neutral characters than Evil ones.

Considering nobody can vote for every single character they have?
That some people identify more strongly with the one good char they have in vault than the two bad ones?

That poll isn't worth the cyberbits it exists as!

Right.

So... your "intuition" clearly states that there are more evil characters than good + neutral ones, and with nothing else to back that up, I'm definitely convinced that you speak the truth from the argument and non-existent facts you just pulled out of your ass.

That poll is the strongest statistic we have seen so far, in regards of what alignment is the most common one on Amia.

'Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics'

I see more PLAYERS than those who have responded to that poll DAILY.

That statistic is worthless, as is, this argument. The plethora of evil factions istelf speaks that there are more than 35 ebil chars or such, since you need... at least 10 people to really have a faction. Right?

Unless those 35 players on an old thread, in a survey taken awhile ago that can't possibly cover all the characters out there, are somehow playing EVERY single amian Evil character... (and I know I'm not), from what I see on a daily basis,

I would say on my intuition, backed up by educated guesswork and common sense. There are more evil chars about.

I wouldn't say I'm perfect this doesn't take into account my dealings with mainly evul folk I just hate bad arguments.

I may be erroneously recalling Tormak mentioning that Amia has a balanced Good - Evil PC amount and a quite imposing number of neutrals.

I may be wrong, I may have incured Torwrath, I deflect that wrath with Pepsi.

Don't forget how many 'evil factions' consist of a thief, a necromancer and his half-ape friend sitting under a bridge, eating dried fish and planning the conquest of everything...

"So all we have to do is steal that ring from the halfling, huh?"
"Yep, no worries".
"What about the old dude with the white beard and the stick".
"Pfff... I can take him, probably an RP build from the sound of him".
"And those guys in black?"
"They're just loot farmers, they never even talk".
"cool, we're gonna totally take this place by storm".
//brb, mum says I have to feed my budgie.

Public polls, where nobody knows what the actual number of possible voters is, usually don't tell a whole lot.

Database queries tell a lot more, as does routinely checking people's character sheets.

As a new player to Amia, my observations led me to believe that the good guys are hiding out somewhere. :o I have met a very large amount of various neutral characters.. most I have met where not neutral good. Plenty of evil going around. Maybe it's just in that area? I do hang out in the forest too much. :)

Also new poll!!

Honestly. When you make a evil character, lets say in this case LE PM. You WILL meet good guys, in parties when you hunt, if your hunting alone..

I have PM and for some reason I always ran into "good guys" when I am summoning or buffing my undead..

When I made a good guy, pally, I couldn't stay in parties because there were evil peeps.. >.<

Dude, if you think Amia has too many evil characters, you haven't played on a server with a proper nasty ambience yet. I don't wanna name one here or recollect too many memories, it was just gross, violent and you were bound to get mutilated if you left the safety of the city. Amia is VERY mellow. In consequences, too.

Shit can still hit the fan, particularly if you're already in an evil faction. But the roads are all relatively safe and you don't get shanked if you run into the odd Banite. Cyricist, maybe. ;)

Does the abundance of neutral PCs have anything to do with Smite Good/Evil..? No one likes getting smote after all.

Or it could be Protection from Alignment.
However, it could be RP, we don't always have to be cynical. ^^

Yes we doo. Neutral is useful to the sneaky bugger, because LN and CN are so much more woolly and flexible than good and evil

Lets see now:

TN, NE, CN, CE, LN

A snapshot of my PCs various alignments. Three out of 5 alignments are neutral. Reason? I tend to keep the alignments close to the typical alignments of the subrace. Snow Elves are either neutral or evil. Svirfneblin are usually neutral. Shadow Elves are usually evil. Drow are usually evil.

I'm not sure if I'm indicative of other players but if others tend to stick close to the alignment range of their subrace on average, then its safe to assume, that as most players play surfacers, alignments will either be neutral or good on average.

Balanced out with the various UD races + Evil humans and tieflings, etc...

Yeah, in my experience the spread of alignments over the PC base is fairly balanced. Good mix here.

I guess the more numerous evil factions can be explained by the fact that evil characters are often selfish and see themselves as the perfect leader, so if theyre not happy with the evil group they found, they just go ahead and make their own.

Btw, I love how the original poster has completely lost interest and left us to rabble on to each other about stuff unrelated to his post xD
