It's all I've found personally. Most of the various languages that seem to have been worked out well. Like Drow, Elven and Dwarven, are the only ones who have a complete alphabet and more than just a few words. Sylvan, isn't to be found. And if you find something, it's just bits and pieces. But Elven -does- have it's base in it, so it's a good base to work on, imho.
You seem to have hit the jackpot on some of it though, I haven't seen that page before. So thumbs up

[Sylvan] You know, you guy could just do this. Or send party chat or use a tell and then emote something else in the public chat. Since the basic directive is to keep other people out, it doesn't make much sense for the person who does understand to have to alt tab to a 3rd party translator when any joe you don't want to know can do the same thing and still metagame it. In the end all you've done is create a big hassle for the legitimate roleplayer and not solved the problem you want to solve.
[Drow] That goes TRIPLE for you.

I am not going to use it here, it is for something else. But then, again, once you read the link provided above, you might as well think this needs moving to Off Topic.

I actually agree with Tormak. BUT it's nice with the languages for flavor. IF only to be used in names, objects, places.. or notes and writings.
Switching entire conversations to full out translated language, creates alot of hassle for the people that you are talking to. And will probably make them want to end the conversation faster, or feel guilty for not bothering to do the same for various reasons.

As I said, not meant for Amia. I am currently on an InGame break.
@ Tormie It is obvious that if I used it for Amia, I would go for the usual '[Language] Sentence'.
I always do.

*Speaks Language A* Then send a tell works if you're worried about metagaming, but the downside is spies have no way of hearing you (downside from an RP viewpoint) even if they do understand the languages,
[Language A] Your Text Here in English This has the advantage of being open to everyone, but you have to trust people won't metagame.
Dosst Plynnithus Ghil Really depends what crowd you rol wit - some may understand you, and it's an interesting variation on *Speaks Language A* if you send translation tells to everyone who understands.

That's the one I used for Arilia to get the sylvan words she injects into her elven: namely nai (no), kei (yes), h'loi (hello) and leitar (goodbye).

I thought doing it that way was illegal?

AFAIK it's legal, since you did the RP in talk, and are merely providing a translation to those who can understand it.
It's like *Flashes a symbol* and giving a tell to all who can pass a DC 30 Lore check to tell them what it is.

Use the "[Drow]" or speak in Drow. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease don't do both, it drives me insane.
Some words are for flavour, such as 'bella'dos' and 'del'heen', and of course titles, but I too find it unnecessarily contrived beyond these flavour words and titles to include the language tag and fill your English with drow words

I actually really hate it when people use unreadable languages IG. It really puts you off rping with them since you have NO idea what they are saying. I'm not going to go and find a translation just because your being a show off. *nod*

I would imagine that's the point. My elves only speak in elven when they DON'T want most of the surrounding population to understand, aside from the one(s) they're conversing with.

Except people who play characters who should understand elven can't understand you because you're using one of those blasted translator's. I'd like to say it's metagaming, or something equally bad, but I can't think of how it relates, but it is blocking someones ability to interact Rply via OOC means in some fashion, and thats bad.

Ask for a translation. Everyone I know will be happy to provide it. If not they're being arsehat elitists.

Sorry, my mind was on vacasion when I read your post, yeah I hate that too.
IMO I think the responsibilty for knowing a language is on any character that is supposed to know the language. If 2 Elves are speaking Elven & my character is listening to them because my character understands Elven then it is my responibilty to actually learn Elven. That said tho if it were my character speaking Elven out of consideration, kindness & fair play I would translate thru tells for ppl that didn't know Elven. Hypocritical? Yeeeeeeaaa. Uh huh. You betcha.

This is not a fair situation however if someone is eavesdropping or spying on your character. Learning the language also isn't fair as it's not an Amian rule, nor is it required to play the game. Even in a PnP game people aren't expected to learn an entire language just to play the game and interact with other characters.

I'm never going to learn an entire made-up language just to play a character. I'd much rather focus on learning an existing language. Sure, the most frequently used words you end up knowing, but other than that no.
Just remember that if a DM doesn't have a clue what you're RPing about, the DM has every right to ignore you and no requirement to ask you for translation.

As usually happens with most threads on this forum, this thread is taking a path that was not intended and that, as we all know, will serve to make veiled (or maybe open) jabs at the way some people choose to RP.
As I said, the original intent was seeking information for something that is not to be used on Amia. While I failed to point that on the main post, I mentioned it a few posts below it.
I am sure that if a forum search is made, it will return a thread in which people can discuss how fair or not, how metagamey or not, how creative or not, how much flavour it gives or not... fantasy languages add to the game.
Or a new one can be made.
Could this be locked, please?
Thank you.
