I'm currently doing my annual purgings of unwanted PCs and this time, I thought I'd try and look at things objectively. I found the process somewhat useful as an excercise and it clearly shows, I still haven't yet created a PC that meets all the criteria that I'm looking for in one person. Given that I'm not the only one who loves to create a million zillion PCs, I thought this process may be useful for others out there. So here's my findings on my own PCs. I'm still yet to find the one that ticks all the boxes...so that's interesting in itself. Feel free to steal the idea for your own analysis on your PCs in helping to decide whether to keep or throw them away.

My Criteria includes:

PvM? Does the build hold well for hunting monsters?
PvP? How does it handle PvP situations on this server?
Storyline? Does the character have a very good storyline that I'd enjoy sticking with?
Faction? Would this PC into fit an existing faction? As we know, factions often increase one's social interaction and the need to belong.
Variety? Does the build offer a lot of options so that I don't get bored? Does the character have several means of playability and many facets to make it interesting?
Memorable Characteristics: Does the character have some things that make her/him stand out from all the other cardboard cut out PCs? E.g., Brilmara smokes like a chimney, Drem gives a Thumbs Up all the time.

Illithira Frostmaiden

Build PvM? Good
PvP? Fail
Storyline? Good
Faction? Good
Variety? Good
Memorable Characteristics? Yes

Verdict: Keep, don’t bother with PvP w/this character.

Driarry Earthshaker

PvM? Honours
PvP? Fail
Storyline? Fail
Faction? Fail
Variety? Good
Memorable Characteristics? Fail

Verdict: Purge. Whilst this character fits the setting well, it fails to deliver beyond the basics.

Elithiel Issatheerin

PvM? Fail unless in a group
PvP? Good (when there’s no lag)
Storyline? Good
Faction? Good
Variety? Good
Memorable Characteristics? Fail

Verdict: Keep and develop further characteristics; only bring out to PvM when in a group. Only bother with PvP when no lag.

Drem Darkrobe

PvM? Fail (takes forever to kill anything)
PvP? Good (vs. spellcasters), fail against all others.
Storyline? Borderline
Faction? Fail (possible pass)
Variety? Good
Memorable Characteristics? Yes

Verdict: Purge. The character takes forever in PvM to kill anything and its AB is so bad that it'll only be great against wizzies. It doesn't fit well into any existing faction.

Brilmara Coalhewer

PvM? Honours!
PvP? Possible Fail (no UMD + roll a 1 against a dev critter and its game over)
Storyline? Needs work! (fail)
Faction? Good
Variety? Fail (there’s only so many ways to swing that axe!)
Memorable Characteristics? Yes

Verdict: [Correction to my last assessment] Purge. I've already two PCs with an inability to handle PvP situations well, why create one more?

PvM? Honours!
PvP? Prepaired = Honours! - Unprepaired = FAIL FAIL FAIL!
Storyline? Fail
Faction? Red Wizards of Amia Rule the whole goddamn server. WIN!
Variety? Wizards have all the spells, So Yes. I can do w / e. Honours!
Memorable Characteristics? No. He once had a PEG LEG, but salandarians fixed it.

Verdict : Rebuild. And DONT spend talentpoints into things like craft armour, when i could have Pick pocket! And Traps and ...Apparise! and *Goes on ranting*

Memorable characteristics? My first good char, gets along with pretty much any good char.

Verdict: Purge

I pass my own character with flying colors, as evidenced by the fact that I've played him for RL years with very few breaks. Congrats, Torin, you don't suck, and you won't be made into Soylent Green.

Regardless of how beastlycore my characters are mechanically, or how much fun I initially have RPing them, they always end up butting heads with the unstoppable juggernaut that is my attention span.

Yea, I'm going to have to go the Tormak route, only one better.

Why don't YOU login and RP with my character, then tell me what YOU think.

:P

PvM? Fail
PvP? Megafail
Storyline? Interesting without being outlandish (within the context that is Amia, at least)
Faction? A faction of one
Variety? No, but she does what she does well
- Cordor Loitering rank 3
- Snugglecuddle RP rank 3
- Sexual innuendo rank 2
- Proselytizing rank 3 (look it up - it's still legal in Cordor! :P )
Memorable Characteristics? Everyone knows who she is, at least by reputation

Verdict: Keep the crappy build to simulate aging and emphasis on non-combat skills.

Comments: This PC is no longer an adventurer (if she ever really was) and doesnt behave like one, nor does she need to for me to have fun playing Amia. 3 years and still going and I dont see dropping her anytime soon (no apologies to those who dont like her  ). Obviously, any scheme for rating characters is biased by what one thinks is important and will vary from person to person (though SoaS's should work for most adventurers).

Memorable Characteristics: Pass

Verdict: My main character and the most developed one, keep and develop further.

Alfrèd Òakin
PvM: Honours. Druids rock in PvM
PvP: Not tested.
Storyline: Good, but soemwhat scetchy still
Variety: Pass. A druid is a druid.
Memorable Characteristics: Honours. With quirks and odd behaviour, he makes a fun char to play, and hopefully peple will remember

Verdict: Keep. Just been rebuilded, must be developed further on teh story and faction side.

Niya Nightshade

PvM? Works. Not the best, but still useful.

PvP? Hips Abuse? Yes. Hips rarely used. Epic fail.

Storyline? Niya is one of the characters where nothing is consistent, the only thing one can be sure of is what happened when you were around her. The rest. Lies, deceptions, humorous alterations of facts.

Faction? She tried. Sort of. She never fit in though, far to silly for it.

Variety? Many faces. Yes. A big Yes. Just ask anyone. The crazy Tiefling Niya? The Dragon who thinks she is a Drow who is a Tiefling who pretends to be a Drow? Yes again. The Big bad evil Minion Mistress. Yep again. And that are just a few.

Memorable Characteristics: Well, lets see.
She was yelling all brightly to burn a necromancer, but then got appointed his defense (And did a reasonable well job at it too if he would've be silent ;) )
One time she roughly gathered half of Amia's online players near Cordor because of her 'Fiend attack' which wanted to steal the soul of an innocent maiden (PS: It was all staged)
Another time she escorted some new characters to bring them on an Epic adventure (No Xavi, not to the velvet quiver. Bad girl ;) ) down to the Demon in Darkhold.
Then there was the time where she was accused of being a Drow, and flattered, and people tried to get her to show her ring. Which she did. Her ring of marriage.
The time she got married.
And the other time she got married again.

Lots of memorable memories.

Verdict: Keep, gives exelent rp.

Kalliniel Galadhron

PvM: Honours. Can't go wrong with bard 25, and this one hits fairly hard. Not to mention the PvM-oriented custom gear I've bought along the years.
PvP: Unknown/Irrelevant. I PvP rarely, and never after reaching my current level. I suppose he's OK if he gets to prepare. Abysmal saves, make sure to exploit that if you ever fight him! I like to lose.
Storyline: Background OK, 4 years of appearances and disapperances made it too complicated to keep track of.
Faction: He's a loner, not interested in any existing factions, not around enough.
Variety: Fail. He has one calling, to serve the People as a Bladesinger. He can be light-hearted or go into grim & righteous mode. But everything is always meaningful and serious to him.
Memorable Characteristics: Top of the Class, if I may say so myself. In my own eyes, he's one of the coolest chars on Amia. He's the only Bladesinger I know of, and I've cultivated the theme quite far: his appearance, his build, the rituals he's been through, even the essay he's written on his profession. He's a scholar of elven history, very much a typical Moon Elf and in that, rather unique.
Comments: He's my first serious main character on Amia. I've had some of my best Amian experiences with him. I've also spent something like 200+ DCs on his custom items and rebuilds, so I'm not going to trash him. But then, I think he's become rather complete. He doesn't have much of a storyline to advance, other than the massive endeavor to advance his training and serve the People. He's awfully serious to play, and requires quite a lot of dedication and time.
Verdict: Keep around, bring out for nostalgy, get time to play in the future.

Joon

PvM: Good. Great, once I hit higher levels. Can't go wrong with Cleric/Monk.
PvP: Unknown/Irrelevant. I suspect he's pretty dangerous with his Epic Spells. I like losing!
Storyline: Great. My best work so far. Interesting on its own, and has often spontaneously given new perspective or surprising material to work with during RP.
Faction: Fail/Honours. He is defined by his role in the Orthodox Church of Oghma. This means he can't join any exclusive factions, though, and I don't have the time to manage a proper, conventional faction myself. I try to get people involved and always have an excuse for doing stuff "for the church."
Variety: Good. He never runs out of things to do: he can preach, gather donations, study stuff, explore, work on his craft as a scribe, indulge in politics and PR, he manages a small faction of his own, etc. Priest, scholar, adventurer, diplomat, Cormyte, a socially awkward coward or a serene and devoted monk.
Memorable Characteristics: Pass. Babyface Cormyte, normal human who looks rather unremarkable, which is special in itself. Wears cool Oghmanyte kantlara, one of the few practicing Oghmanytes around. Fights unarmored with a quarterstaff, scribes cleric scrolls. Is scared of scary things, like dying, monsters and Banites.
Verdict: Focus more, adopt as main character. Great things await!

Alanna Indrire (Formerly Molov)

PvM: Pass, but Only with a spellcaster. >_>
PvP: Pass. Completely pwns against half the builds out there, completely gets pwned by the other half.
Storyline: Fail. Her pre-Amian background is rather unoriginal, kinda boring and a little fuzzy in some spots, but that's probably because I made her when I was 12. Post- Amia it gets much more interesting.
Faction: Honors
Variety: Honors. She can go from being a sweet little puppy dog to a murderous, rabid wolf in a matter of seconds.
Memorable Characteristics: Honors! One of the reasons I've been playing Alanna for 4+ years is that she has so many interesting ticks, habits, and ways of interacting with people that I rarely get bored.
Comments: I love the character, and as she ages she only seems to get more complicated and fun to play. She's always changing; I love her dynamism.
Verdict: Alanna 4 lyfe yeah

Mirela Emilian

PvM: Dunno!
PvP: Dunno again. >_>
Storyline: Interesting. There's still bits to be fleshed out, but her story line was very well conceived, I think, and informs all of her actions.
Faction: Fail. Not one for organization
Variety: Pass/Fail. Has mood swings worse than Alanna, which keeps things interesting, but she is terribly antisocial and trusts no one, which makes it difficult to get interesting RP going with a variety of other characters.
Memorable Characteristics: Honors. She wears no shoes, has a necklace with the symbols of Beshaba and Tymora, wears the gaudiest jewelry around, sings in a made up language and dances instead of walking. Whee.
Verdict: Branch her out a bit, and she might become more of a mainstay. Otherwise just around for short spurts of entertainment.

I would add the criteria:

'Novelty': How different is this character from others of the same class or build?
'Sympathy': How well can I as a player get inside the character's head?
'Believability': Does the character have a believable personality? Backstory? Abilities? Lack of Believability can be negative or positive, especially if one likes to play outlandish or comic relief characters.
'Required Commitment': How often does this character demand use of my time when I might not want to be online? (The downside of Faction-based, Merchant, or infamous PCs)
'Enjoyability': Have I had fun playing this character in the past? Do I foresee having fun playing in the future?

I guess I'll give it a try. I'm not gonna do every character I have, but I'll do the main ones I play.

Bree'nye Tinnerai

PvM: B+ (not the best, but she can solo anything other than the Abyss without too much trouble)
PvP: Undecided (she's 1-1 with her current build, so I'm not gonna make a call)
Storyline: A+ (she's my first character on Amia)
Faction: A+ (leads the oldest still active drow house on Amia)
Variety: A-
Memorable Characteristics: A+ (after so many years, she's developed a lot of cool quirks)
Comments: My first and always my favorite to play. I tried once or twice to retire her and just couldn't bring myself to do it.
Verdict: This biznich ain't goin' nowhere anytime soon.

Chess'bryne Mae'ana

PvM: A+ (nasty nasty nasty)
PvP: A- (can drop 4 characters at once, but has a relatively low AC right now)
Storyline: C- (this is mostly my own fault for not involving her in more)
Faction: B (her militant disposition allows her to fit in to her faction perfectly)
Variety: C+
Memorable Characteristics: C (she's got some promise, but could use some more work)
Comments: Chess was made to be played when I just feel like doing mindless hack'n'slash, so in that respect, she's aces.
Verdict: She may go towards the back of the crowd, but she's sticking around.

Alun'hrae Tinnerai

PvM: B (her AC is nuts, but her damage could use some improvement)
PvP: B+ (see above and add on pretty nasty saves)
Storyline: C (this is once again, my own fault for not playing her more)
Faction: B
Variety: A+ (due to her attitude and her build, I can happily RP her for hours or take her out and do some nasty things to monsters or other characters)
Memorable Characteristics: B+ (she's got some pretty fun quirks to RP)
Comments: This is probably my 2nd favorite character to RP and her decent standing in a fight makes her pretty fun to play overall.
Verdict: May need a rebuild to fix her damage issue, but otherwise she's perfect.

Zilv'alna Tinnerai

PvM: C+ (she's only level 13, I expect this to increase with her level)
PvP: Untested
Storyline: D (a vital part of her storyline is another character and they haven't been able to get together much over the past few months)
Faction: C (she fits in, but isn't a very vital part)
Variety: A (she's not your normal drow yath, so gives me a good change of pace)
Memorable Characteristics: She's one of the very, very rare drow twins. This alone usually causes her to stick out in people's minds)
Verdict: Zilv'alna will probably remain in the vault, but will only come out on the rare occasions that she can get together with her twin.

Willow Maynare
PvM? Very much so. Honors, indeed.
PvP? Very good. It's not so much that Druids are exactly deadly; I've just had to PvP with her so much that I'm really good at using what she has. So, as a build, good, but me playing her and knowing her, very good. I win most of my encounters. Yep, I proud of that ^.^. I'll counter Iron and admit what I'm sure most people feel: I like winning! I'm not a sore loser though.
Storyline? I dunno, you be the judge? I think it's good. It’s nothing too special, but good and interesting enough to me. I've never read any D&D novels so I dunno if she's a "paper cut out" or not, but I don't think so. Her life has been a pretty weird and wild road. But, I'm not story writer so... ::shrug::
Faction? Honors. Willow was with the Grove for yeeeears in IG time and for about three years real time. She was also a member of the Hin Fist which then merged into the Bendir Dale Militia. She was in that for a two to three IG years and about... 4 months real time. She definitely has potential to join another faction, but who knows. Currently, she's faction-less though. Well... unless you count the council of the Duir.
Variety? Honors. Willow is very fleshed out and I can react very naturally and on the spot how Willow would when I get into character. She's a very diverse. She's hardy, passionate, devoted and can go from sweet to super bitch if you come at her the wrong way. I think anyone who knows Willow well can agree when I say that she is a -ZERO- tolerance kinda gal when it comes to things that go against the balance, her people (Hin), friends and family. She's a troubled soul, to be sure but she's a good person at her foundation. She's changed -a lot- and grown a lot, in game on Amia and in her pre-Amia story.
Memorable Characteristics: Willow was made during my second month of being on Amia so I’ve been playing her for years now. There’s a good reason for that. She’s an interesting person, imo. She’s been through a lot and she’s made herself better for it. She has tons of little things about her, for sure.

Zetsumei Boukun
PvM? Good. She’s not the best, but she’s not too bad. I can hold my own in most cases with her.
PvP? Dunno. I’ve never PvPed anyone in her level range and really only ever PvPed once. During her only PvP, I won against an Epic mage at level 17 though (and she’s a Monk). I think that’s pretty good?
Storyline? Good. I’ve written her story out almost completely. But, of course, only IG stuff can flesh her out further. It’s starting to flesh out nicely. I think it’s a pretty cool story. No one knows it yet though. But, again, I’m no story writer.
Faction? High Honors. Zet can fit in a number of factions. She was made with the intent on leave her open to influence from many different faiths. Now, she’s pretty much devoted to her church. She still gets along with a handful of other factions though.
Variety? Decent. Zet is a very… quiet person. That’s not to say she doesn’t have anything to say or that she’s one dimensional. Not by a long shot. But her personality can turn certain people off. They might find her weird, boring or uninteresting. But, that’s the point of her personality, so that’s good.
Memorable Characteristics: She has tons of things that make her stand out from others. I dare say she’s my most unique character to date. But, that’s not something I’ll get in to because a lot of it is supposed to remain unsaid. She has tons and tons of things about her no one knows about yet and no one will probably ever know a number of them.

Tu’jol Velg’larn
PvM? Passable. She’s not the best at long hunts. She’s good at short runs though.
PvP? Honors. She kicks serious ass in PvP. Too bad I’ve forgotten a lot of my ways of using her so I’d probably get my butt kicked these days. Luckly, she’s not like Willow and isn’t very quick to fight at all. I’ve only had to PvP with her a few times since she turned Eilistraeen (over a year ago now).
Storyline? She has an okay story. It’s not one of those epic stories or anything. But it’s believable which is what counts, imo.
Faction? Passable. She’s Eilistraeen and she would probably only join an Eilsitraeen faction unless things changed. That said, she is in an Eilistraeen faction.
Variety? Passable. She used to be a lot more varied and outgoing. Now that she’s a mom, she’s calmed down a lot and isn’t as active. But that’s the thing that makes me like her. She’s a lot more… “normal”, I guess, than my other characters. She’s an old character too, like Willow. She’s about two and a half year’s old real time. I don’t play her as much anymore, but I hope to. I really am pretty attached to the character, I must say. She’s just such a likeable person because she has a big heart.
Memorable Characteristics: She’s unique in some way and typical in other ways. Again, what makes her fun to me. She’s not this epic character that’s “soooo different, you wouldn’t understand ::emo sigh::”. She’s a common and good hearted person. She can be a little emo though, not in the childish and teenage way, in a more realistic and optimistic way. Hard to explain, you wouldn’t understand… >.>

Jacob “Black Jake” Drake
PvM? Honors. He’s a monster, for his level!
PvP? Dunno. Never had to PvP with him before, but I’m pretty sure he’d be a monster.
Storyline? His story needs a lot of fleshing out still, but I think it’s a fun story so far. So it’s, good, but a work in progress.
Faction? Honors. Jake is so open to anything that nothing is impossible. He’s a fun loving evil bastard!
Variety? Good. Jake can’t really deal with “serious” topics, he’s too busy trying to drink his Whiskey and going after the ladies. He’s diverse in light hearted stuff, musical stuff, adventurous stuff and anything to do with killing and stealing. Aside from that, don’t bother.
Memorable Characteristics: Jake has tons of little things. The one major thing I can think of is: his way of speaking is way weird. I’ve gotten PM’s from people saying that he’s tougher to understand that Elspath Beermaiden! But that’s impossible!

PvM: Varies. When alone - relatively weak. When with a flanking buddy or against bosses / single targets - Godly.
PvP: Varies, ALA Batman. Easy to mince into meat when unprepared for his target, but can kill just about anything if he's prepped. Even casters ;).
Storyline: Can't say. I don't reveal this bit OOC, period.
Faction: He'd fit well with certain factions, though his nature causes him to instead have his fingers in every little corner of the map. Quite successfully thus far, at that.
Variety: Honours. Build wise, he's heavily variable, able to succeed in ranged, combat, and utility dynamics. RP wise, his behaviour allows him to operate in most situations in one regard or another, without becoming redundant.
Memorable Characteristics: He's an ass. That's the best it can be summed up. His previous culture and how he brings it into the 'present world' has remained constant enough to be memorable as well, I suppose. Not to mention, he's been around since mid/late 2005, so he's quite well known by now. Various reasons over the last month or so have had me looking at retiring him, though, so we'll see.
Verdict: Undecided. Looking at ditching after current events subside.

Dorian Bladeweave
PvM: Good. Standard powerbuilt Human WM, with a good gearset. Excels when buffed by FriendlyMage.
PvP: Moderate. Again, standard powerbuilt Human WM. No RDD or cleric, so he's trounced by the more dominant / extreme builds.
Storyline: Can't say. I don't reveal this bit OOC, period.
Faction: He'd fit well with the ACTF, definately, due to his trader and merchantile nature on the side. In fact, he currently is working on starting his own sub-branch of that group, the 'Thousand Heroes Adventuring Company (Yes, that comes down to THACo, for you DnD2 nuts). Sorta put on hold due to Eary's involvement in things.
Variety: Still being decided. He's not had any problems thus far from what i've seen, at least, so.. Pass.
Memorable Characteristics: He's my more light-hearted, well meaning guy. He's known for flipping his coins (only some of which are legitimately equal in chances. His array of outfits have also become a memorable indiosyncracy of his.
Verdict: Keep, keep, keep. I really want to play this character more, and I enjoy messing about with him - as well as handling his factional deal.

Well, if Ron will do a full one... I suppose!

Torin Starfall
PvM: Pass. Dev Crit Weaponmaster. All day, all week, all year. Works, works good, works better with a mage. Your Own Personal Ginsu. (Genasu? Djinnsu?)
PvP: Fail. No UMD, and being a non caster. A few notable exceptions exist that I will not detail.
Storyline: Honors. Years of RP and various "thingies done". Pre Amian history is purposefully foggy with some definition. Not going to detail it here if only because I know some people want to know, and I'd rather they learn it IC, and I know they'd rather it that way too.
Faction: Honors. Yes Please.
Variety: Honors. He is, to date, the only Psionic character on the entire server. I think "Variety" speaks for itself in this case.
Memorable Characteristics: Honors. Ever wondered why there's a gold coin sitting on the ground in front of the sign outside the Waukeen Temple? Now you know. Also: Crackers, painfully tactless bluntness, zealot-like regard to some ideals. One of the only Shaundakul worshippers in the server.
Verdict: All Soylent Greens are people, but not all Torins are Soylent Green. I <3 Torin. He's always growing.... well, maybe not mentally... or aging... or whatever. Nevermind.

EDIT: Did I toot my own horn enough?

This all seems masturbatory. Why are you doing this with your own characters instead of other peoples'? Then it isn't so self-gratifying.

Isn't lording your own, demeaning, perspective of other people's actions just as masturbatory? Even if the target is your own ego, as opposed to pride over a creation. ;)

I'm with Yossarin. But I'm a Norwegian, we're reserved and private people. Even Wikipedia says so:

"Norwegians have an egalitarian outlook.[3] The concept of Jante Law is in many areas and fields still today strong in Norway. Any form of elitism is likely to meet strong criticism. Norwegians generally express themselves in very modest terms, especially when it comes to compliments and praises. They are "scrupulous about honesty in communication, often to the point of pointing out the negatives in their own proposals in greater detail than the positives."[4]" - Wikipedia on "Norwegian Culture."

That said, masturbation is not a crime. It's just a bit more sad and lonely than fucking.

Build PvM? Decent, isn't particualrly quick at killing epic Spawns, though moves through at an adequate pace.

PvP? Decent, his AC is easily raised beyond 50, good saves, Bard/Curse song, UMD and Tumble to fall back on. Usually does well, assuming he can get his buffs up quick enough.

Storyline? Not amazing, though always changing, good enough for me to carry on playing him.

Faction? No and never most likely.

Variety? Yus, decent, usually always have something to do, whether it's trying to kick up a little RP or go on a hunt, high AC, spell castings, Bard song and the lovable Lasting Inspiration to keep him going!

Memorable Characteristics? Yes. Has a thick accent, 'based on people from tha' North West, like.'

Verdict: Not quite my perfect character, but close to what I would consider it, Keep forever and nevah let go!

Build PvM? FAIL!
PvP? FAIL!
Storyline? passable
Faction? FAIL
Variety? FAIL
Memorable Characteristics? Meh.

judgement. WIN!

Seriously my favourite character I've had. Played her for years and will continue to do so.

I think my criteria must be different to this set. Each to their own, I suppose.

Lynara Raine

PvM? Pass if grouped.
PvP? No idea, not important.
Storyline? Nothing fancy, grew up in Cordor and followed the adventuring lifestyle.
Faction? Fail. Has never been in a faction or even approached one to join.
Variety? Ranged or melee if sneak damage is clocked up, also casting. There's an adequate mix of disabling spells, direct damage, and buffs, but not much in the way of summons, hence the need to group up (which makes it interesting).
Memorable Characteristics: Is a freak. In other words, doesn't have any draconic, vampiric or fiendish heritage. Also acts as tourist guide when Cordor is not very busy.
Verdict? Keep for sentimental reasons.

Isamura Hana Raine

PvM? Not relevant.
PvP? Not relevant.
Storyline? Has a long role-played background, but hasn't contributed much lately to events.
Faction? Ineligible.
Variety? Arcane ranged or casting, melee and inappropriate sarcasm if all else fails. Has at least one useable summon.
Memorable Characteristics: Living the symbiotic life. Off saving the universe.
Verdict? Use sparingly.

Ellen Raine

PvM? Pass.
PvP? No idea, not important.
Storyline? Re-incarnated character, coming back from the dead to fight evil is a bit of a cliche but it works.
Faction? Fail. Was aligned in previous incarnations but nothing recently.
Variety? Ranged, sword and board, dual swords, healing, buffing.
Memorable Characteristics: "Well hello there, pleased to meet you." Not much apart from that.
Verdict? Don't make these like they used to. On the other hand, not all comebacks work out.

Julian Goodman

PvM? Pass.
PvP? No idea, not important.
Storyline? I have no clue.
Faction? Fail. Has never been in a faction or even approached one to join.
Variety? At least two melee weapon specialisations. Can change between weapon and board and two weapons, or two-hander.
Memorable Characteristics: Is a freak (as Lynara). Otherwise not very interesting.
Verdict? Keep, for the sake of having a good shield fighter.

There are others, but these are the only ones that have been logged in lately.

Okay

Torin Starfall:

PvM: (B) Not without a mage you silly silly UMDless person.

PvP: (A-) Lol wtf how u du all tht magic dmgs hax

Storyline: (A) (Hey, wait don't you need a request to be a Djiin? DM! He's Godmoding!)

Faction: (F) Faction?

Variety: (A+) See: weapon-master without Use-Magic-Device and doesn't use a scimitar or rapier? Only other immediate example I can think of this is Stillborn.

Memorable Characteristics: The Density of Lead, the heaviest stable element is somewhere around 11.34 grams per centimeter cubed. The density of Torin Starfall is somewhere around 13.3 Grams per CC.

Verdict: Keep him around for heavy lifting, weighing down papers and occasionally thinking of a plan that saves the universe.

Read as 'perfect playable character'. The criteria being how close to ideal the character is in playability terms.

Obviously if a character can do everything right or know all the secrets of the universe they would be a bit boring to play. There's only so many times you can say Ah, my character succeeds because they're perfect before the DM sets your character sheet on fire.

Yossarin the Shadowbard, Partner ACTF, and a wonderful individual.

PvM? Reasonably from what I can extrapolate about him and his presence in Ne'sek during times when monsters'd gotten to the line.
PvP? I don't recall having seen him in PvP combat but somehow I reckon a bard as clever as he is has enough tricks up his sleeve to survive.
Storyline? Yossarin, from my dealings has come off with a very in depth storyline and a lot of detail has been put both into his style and his way of thinking.
Faction? I know he served the Mystran Tower's Council as well as served as a Partner in the ACTF of considerable resources.
Variety? Citing the prior point on faction involvement, as well as recalling Yossarin's involvement in some form or another in a number of occasions, it is safe to say Yossarin is quite ecclectic in his world involvement and his Roleplay
Memorable Characteristics: Calm, eloquent, feminine looking but with strength about himself in the form of both his Charisma, and his manner in how he deals with situations and the world as a whole.

I admit my exposure to Yossarin is limited but I figured I would give it an honest effort.

Minto is the idiot dwarf, trying to be a goodly stumpster defender, but too damn stupid and stringy to get it right.

PvM: I imagine 'good'.
PvP: Honours.
Storyline: I have no idea.
Faction: Again, wouldn't know.
Variety: Uh.. Good? No idea.
Memorable characteristics: :( Why oh why haven't I saved my old Va screenies, they would explain it all. Psychotic little hin with trouble speaking properly, a tendancy to cut arms off of people and beat them with 'em, and an odd idea about leg-humping being charming.

Verdict: I miss Va. Bring him back. I wanna make sweet sweet manlove to Ruce, just for creating that little tornado. *Swooon*

PvM? alone, might as well have a stick of butter than a sword. in a group (only needs 1 extra) can give smackdown. strong canon, not good tank.
PvP? tossup, sucks vs some builts, rapes others
Storyline? off and on, as a whole highly interesting
Faction? best ever
Variety? drow with personal honor = rare, cleric of selvetarm = not very rare... ehh, somewhat, but he is hella fun
Memorable Characteristics? Yes

Verdict: keep. i've had him since a month after i joined the server, and he has been my main for over 2 years now.

Oh right, we get to do self-char-stroking, too!

Eir Shaji! <---The Dude.

PvM: Boring to play, but he cuts through most things without much, if any trouble.
PvP: Depends. Prepared, he'll stomp a mudhole in most. Unprepared, dead meat.
Storyline: Goes up and down, depending on how much time I have to play. He's great fun when I have time, though.
Faction: Was a Shadowflame, now back to freelancing, so to say. No plans of changing that.
Variety: RDDs are everywhere, but I like to think that his personality sets him aside. <.<
Memorable characteristics: I wouldn't know. I'm playing him, not playing with him.
Verdict: The only character I really play these days. When I have time to play, I usually log on him, unless I feel like I ought to get on one of my others. Definetly keeping him, he's my absolute favorite to play, and is only second to Dribo in entertainment value for me.

Jack Galenson.

PvM? Swing and Miss. Can be great, can be really poor.
PvP? Stomps on most ninnies for breakfast coz they don't think a Salandran can have a nasty build.
Storyline? 4 years and running says it all
Faction? Cordor Guard, Salandran. Now MIA.
Variety? You buff him, you point at who you want stomped and watch the 56 AB do its magic.
Memorable Characteristics: He's grumpy!! He's older then 95% of the current playerbase? Hell yes I'm keeping the bastard!

Grimgor.

PvM? Typical tank. Whacks hard, gets whacked just as hard.
PvP? Typical tank. Whacks hard, gets whacked just as hard.
Storyline? Nothing great but that was the point.
Faction? He's in one. He's too tall though.
Variety? Typical tank. Whacks hard, gets whacked just as hard.
Memorable Characteristics: Monkeygrip? Hell yes I'm keeping the bastard!

PvM: Varies. Arcane caster, yes. But no summons.
PvP: Varies. Again arcane caster, yes. But doesn't focus on pure damage.
Storyline: Good enough for a faerie's, I suppose?
Faction: Weave Knights. Don't fit into factions too well.
Variety: Mediocre. Only have so many spells, but I like to mix and match.
Memorable Characteristics: DM approved faerie class RPed. Which makes him fairly unique on it's own. Also have about the highest chamod obtainable on Amia. And has a good understanding and connection to all things magic, which often proves to be a bad thing.

Reh'Cra Salenor Is'Def Kenlyl

PvM: Good. Doesn't have a single enemy type that he is weak against. But he's no devcritter.
PvP: Varies. Depends on who he's fighting, and how prepared either party is. Won't reveal more than that, even though that's as general as one can get..
Storyline: As the child of 2 PC characters, his storyline and such, come from actual events that's happened in the Shrine, or his family. So it's not made up specifically for him, and thus I'll give it Honors. Since I didn't really get a say in his storyline, which just makes it ALL the more interesting for me too.
Faction: Good meddler, no further comment.
Variety: Good. He can do just about anything you can think of.. with a bow.
Memorable Characteristics: quite young, persistent and claims to not have an ego.
