Slap me for a newb, but I've been gone a while. I've got a level of Archaeologist. I find a nifty artifact. It's not research-able. The matrix says it's worth a buncha coin. So, who am I supposed to sell it to? Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere, or if it's supposed to be apparent- I've been scrounging through the forums for hours on the topic, and have learned nothing new at all. There seems to be no one I can ask except a sort of general-question post here. (Perhaps there should be a forum for job-related questions and assistance. Yes the matrix and job info here is amazing, but there's a lot that doesn't seem to be explained at all, anywhere.)
Assistance would be most appreciated.

There is only one researchable item you dig up that's actually Archeology (learned it the hard way).
The others all require different jobs, and not all are research. Some are components for other products.

Archaeologist is basically the Academical miner, creating resources for other jobs.

How are you supposed to get those hunting tasks, by the way? I tried it, but nobody would give me any. Do I need to find someone else than the trainer, or just take more ranks?

No, ask for a job at the trainer.

I'm still at a loss. The matrix says a "wierd status" is worth some 656 gp, but there's no "artifact trader" I can find reference to... am I supposed to just track down another player who can use it and try to wrestle 600 or so gp out of him/her, or is there some other way for me to sell the object?
(And IronAngel- if you mean in the case of Archaeology, I'm only an apprentice, and the arch. trainer gave me tasks right away... Couldn't get them as a civilian though- had to take at least on rank's worth. Now though I'm kinda wishing that I hadn't... can't make use of the stuff i do find... and the place he most recently sent me to... I have no idea where it even is. *lol*)

I only know of one trainer that actually give tasks for archeology. The one I know on Amia Island does not.

This. Also he gives tasks for places that have no dig sites.
I spent an entire reset scouring Cariagh, and never found anything Archeology related.

There's "Dig" and "Sarcophogus" job system plc's in a few places, which operate off archaeology ranks. They give things like Weather Journal, Tribal totem, etc.
I didn't even know that you ~could~ get tasks to do with archaeology.
As for the items, look at the job matrix page. On searching (ctrl+f) for "weird statue", there's an entry that says it can be used by a Thanatologist to make a book. Tribal Totem can be used by a historian to make a book. And teh list goes on.

*lol* i *know* that much, Cori- what I'm confused by is how I'm supposed to get a fist full of coins for the object, or if I just have to go find the ONE thanatologist who doesn't already HAVE the weird statue/funny rock/mummified corpse, etc.. and try to convince *that* guy it's worth what the matrix suggests..

Illithira is a master Archaeologist. To date, I've not been able to find a merchant trader for her. In fact, that's because there isn't one. So, I tried selling them to PCs but nobody is interested in buying them. So, I just toss them in the bin but hold one of everything for anyone interested in buying them.

A Thanatologist can use the same thing more than once, you know. Just like you can collect more than 1.
It's value is an arbitrary number disco set. If you happen to find a Thanatologist in game, safe bet they'll buy the thing for the xp and gold they can get from making the book then selling it. Even if you *don't* get the gold value listed by disco, it's not like it cost you anything to collect it, so who cares?
Yes, I realise finding that elusive pc is not exactly easy. Trust me...i know all too well. Try putting up an advertisement post in pc notice board forum?

Tried it, attracted the attentions of a Lich haha! But no, most times PC Noticeboard stuff doesn't work since most people are on at Yank times.
Better to simply add an Artifact merchant/trader to the job system, just like any other resource.

That i agree with. There should be one merchant to deal in artifacts and invented "stuff", I think.
That, and merchants should be moved to easy to find places, like markets/market halls! I'm sure there is an ingredient trader somewhere on A...but I be damned f I could find it, or if those i spoke to ic in game, or oocly out of it, had any idea where it was.

As for cash, well, it gets a little expensive travelling to those far flung places, and I'm very much *not* a power build that can go solo the frost giants for an hour to cover my expenses. (And why are so few people partying up lately? I haven't managed to find a single party since I've been back! -whole other topic. ;D )
There IS in fact that gadget merchant IN the archaeology area. He doesn't sell anything. I assume he buys gadgets. Hey waitaminnite..... what's he doing in the Valley of the Dead anyway..... I wonder...
As to the forums- What Soundof said. I am in fact, a yank, so the times aren't as much of a problem for me- but I game... to be in game, I want to do what I do in AMIA, not on a black-walled, text filled box. (I am well over the Zork phase of my gaming. *LOL*) I think it's a shame to force players to LEAVE he game (or *gasp* - go idle!) when there are plenty of ways to implement in-world messaging boards, with fairly little scripting. (Making them persistant, I imagine, is trickier.)
Overall, I'm pretty disappointed in the Archaeologist job, as I suspect others as well might be. And, hearkening back to my original post, could someone kindly tell me how to get to the Alambar Sea? Can't find it on any of the maps, there seems to be no ship that goes there, though I've seen lots of references to it, it doesn't seem to be present or labeled in the map rooms... *scratches her head and prays for Demonic Intervention*

That's an IC question about where the sea is. Handle that on IC. The rest of what you say makes sense.

Sell to players, factions, or donate.
