I have to confess I tend to skip posts in full coloured text. Coloured shades of white pass, but bright and dark colours simply get filtered because I get a headache if I try to read them.

Taking them out doesn't help the fact that as long as we got BBcode enabled, people can use simple RGB numbers for the colours, too. And disabling BBcode would mean no italics, no sizes, no nothing. Only disabling colours is possible with some hacking, but then you also can't use colours for emphasis in text.
Emphasis meaning highlighting some words with different colour, btw.
The reason I do it, and I think most do, is so their post has a personal touch to it. OOC posts by me are in blue while IC posts for my guy Kichirou are in banite green when he talks.
To me I like to see a different color from one post to another but I've got great eyes so must just be me

Eh, the ones I'm doing in blue are more for my benefit than anyone elses, because nobody -has- to read the journal and the blue ones are only while I'm unable to actually play IG so *shrugs*

Is it really a that much to ask for that people type so its readable without having to change the fonts in firefox, mark the text or squint at the screen?
If people can't be arsed to keep the text readable without a headacke I won't be arsed to even try reading it.

*will nolonger read the blue text* Thats right im makeing a stand, sorry Scimiter but you will be unfortanatly ignored by me whilst useing such a color.
I sugest use Blue to slog me off behind my back and use a nice clean white to write requests or such or ill vote NO!! regardless cause i cant read it.
An alternative we could try is to replace the harsh default colours with pastels, like light yellow, light orange, light pink, very light baby blue etc. Grey is pretty annoying on black, because it doesn't give enough contrast.

This I would think resaonable. The colors, for the most part, all have too much or too little contrast.
If you'd be content with pastel sets of light colors with soft contrast would be awsome. ^.^ (Cause I like the colors....)

Agreed.
For future reference, obnoxiously colored text isn't going to get read by me, either. Hence, my suggestion to Scimiter in another thread, regarding the use of light blue, rather than RGB pure blue.

I generally grab onto anything which might indicate preference for anything, you having that color in your siggy would suggest you either like it, or at the very least tolerate it. That's just how my reasoning works.

I have no problem with the darker colours in small doses, such as a word highlighted here and there. Though, it indeed directs the eye away from the text so a darker colour can be used to "conceal" something, like Disco said there.
A full sentence in dark red would be too much to read for me, for example. A header in dark red is fine, though I'd skip it by accident likely. I guess that's what I was getting at with what I said above about posts in fully coloured text, because this isn't a black-and-white matter (pun intended). Most colours can be used without being irritating, if they're used in small doses and not by colouring the full post in a block of red.
Though, for me personally, the highlighting doesn't work. It makes me skip words instead of paying attention to them. But for many people this is the opposite.

Ditto, except for the fact that white backgrounds tend to reject my attention completely, especially on the computer. I've been visually attracted to Amia's forums from the moment I first found it. My computer is set to low luminosity/radiation as well. I can't handle bright light at all.
Back on topic, I think it's impossible to cater to every taste, but we can all agree pastels would be a nice compromise. Of course, whoever still wants to use their favorite color can do just that, with the knowledge that some may not read it. Just important things like Requests and Improving Amia ideas should be kept in readable colors.
There is nothing wrong with coloured posts.. but a timer plus random colour function.. Oh sweet lord, I shall never forget the face of my IT teacher when he saw the 0.025 second flashing colours of every single letter of my running program.
For the forums, it goes, some colours are easier. Blue is a no go, but red and orange are a good font.
I also saw someone colour each line in a soothing colour derived from the previous one, forgot who it was, and it made the posts look quite nice.

Anyway, here's a nice RGB chart to play with. Helpful people can google some more pastel charts, I picked the first that looked good. Maybe even find a hexadecimal code generator with a user-friendly palette tool? Most paint programs got those.
Hexadecimal colours show up by replacing the colour name the forum gives you with #FF4848, for example. In case someone didn't know. The numbers presented in the charts can be manipulated as much as desired to produce yet wider range of colours
Now, feel free to unleash your inner child and paint the topic pastel! We can see which colours we'd like to use once we got a nice sample of tolerable shades.

I just thought it would be easier to let each user decide whether they want technicolour or not. That is why I searched out a mod which does that(I guess it must use the profile).
People can post in whatever colour they want as long as I don't have to see it lit up like a neon sign - no offence intended.

Certain colors annoy the hell outta me..... blue being the prime offender. However, green comes in a close second. Most of the other colors don't bother me that much. I did see one person use a dark grey color that really bothered me, though. I use yellow in my IC letters, but it pops out off the black like a 13 year old Russian gymnast.
